Iron Man 2 Just Got Better

The Attack of the Gar(r)ys / Dustin Rowles

Trade News | April 8, 2009 | Comments (23)

Today begins day three of filming on Iron Man 2, and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen as many reports coming from the set of a movie (save for Sex and the City: The Movie, but that was mostly disgruntled New Yorkers pissed off that production was impeding their trip to Starbucks). Overnight, we learned from IESB that two more faces have been spotted on the set, and both are Gar(r)ys.

First up, Garry Shandling is apparently in the cast. He’ll play Senator Stern (although, Shandling also joked, via Favreau’s Twitter: “I can’t wait to see the movie to see who I actually play.”) I hope he gets an impromptu opportunity to sing the Theme to Garry’s show.

Even bigger: Gary Oldman was also spotted on the set. No word yet on who exactly he’s set to play, but some have speculated that he’ll be playing Howard Stark, Tony’s father — a role once believed to have gone to Tim Robbins — but most agree that John Slattery (“Mad Men”) probably already holds that part (and a nice choice it is). So, who is Oldman gonna play? No clue. However, his role is probably small, because he’s currently filming the post-apocalyptic Western, The Book of Eli. Perhaps he’s being set up for a larger role in the third Iron Man.

Or maybe it’s just white boy day on the set of Iron Man 2.

I don’t feel comfortable with your racial undertones Rowles, I hope this isn't a new trend.

Uh... Hello? He's obviously Commission Gordon. Duh.

They are clearly setting up for a huge DC/Marvel cross-over event in the future.

Justice League vs. The Avengers in 2020!

Feh. Wake me when they start filming "Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu."

As much as I love Gary Oldman, it kind of ruins this movie for me a little since he's already in two of the best superhero movies ever made.

A little off-topic, but I just watched The Backwoods last weekend, and kind of dug it. Gary Oldman is the bee's knees.

Naw man, it ain't white boy day.

Snath, I’m kinda intrigued by Oldman in Iron Man. But friend, I ain’t getting on my knees for the guy, and you shouldn’t also.

That picture. And he's going to be in the same movie as RDJ. Sweaty, suave, fighting RDJ.

Well, there goes the rest of my day.

Whooo Yeah! This just gets better and better! :)

Indeed, Julie. Indeed.

I saw many people are discussing this on the forum of tall people relationship site called ___Tallmingle.com___ . You may go there to check it if you are interested.

I should've known Michael K wouldn't let me down.

Heh. If dlisted.com gets a picture of La Oldman strutting around in lifts I will send Michael K a carton of those frosted animal cookies he loves so much.

This is the theme to Garry's show
The opening theme to Garry's show
Garry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song

Love it! Permanently embedded in my memory.

I thought it was Ed Hall who was Mr. Stark in the old black-and-whites from the first movie?

Cool off Pookie and rent "True Romance." One of Oldman's many classic cinema lines :)

Posted by: Nudgie at April 8, 2009 5:40 PM

Gary Oldman creeps me right the fuck out. I dunno why, but he does. I DO think he's an a-fucking-mazing actor, but I wouldn't leave him alone in a room with my little sister.

Posted by: Roaddog at April 8, 2009 7:28 PM

I understand what you’re saying Nudgie, I’m just saying that Rowles is a better writer than that. My hope is that one day pajiba can be a place for ideas and not mischief. The winds of hate are already blowing wide and far, do we really need Rowles stoking those flames?

Posted by: Pookie at April 8, 2009 7:33 PM

Wait...Howard Stark is appearing in, like, a flashback type of capacity, right? Because while John Slattery is most definitely a silver-haired fox, he is not nearly old enough to play the father of RDJ.

That aside, can I take a second to "squeeeeeee!" about how TOTALLY AWESOME the casting in this has been? I hope ScarJo doesn't completely fuck it up for me.

I'll stay in a room with him alone.
