'Game of Thrones' Pedro Pascal Tweeted the Understatement of the Year After Last Night's Episode

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | June 2, 2014 | Comments ()

If you haven’t seen last night’s episode, go on and get out of here. If you have seen last night’s Game of Thrones, you should immediately read TK’s recap.

Now that you’re caught up, here’s how the episode — and the Trial by Combat — ended.

And here is the perfectly understated response of Pedro Pascal, who plays Oberyn Martell, whose brains that is lying splattered on the ground.

And here’s this morning’s follow-up tweet:

You can even hear the accent, can’t you?

I knew it was coming and I still was horrified. I am like "just finish him! Please let it go! Let the justice go! Please! Oh no. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." It's a tragedy because that passion and pursuit for justice and truth is what made him great and became his downfall. And that eye thing. I kept thinking about ending of Oedipus Rex.

  • stella

Hanging out with Tyrion Lannister seems really dangerous..

  • stardust

I could have done without seeing that second gif, especially since I covered my face last night to avoid eye and face gore. Not to get all Tumblr-y up in here but a warning for extreme gore would be good next time.

  • hapl0

I had my hand on my forehead for a good minute as the credits rolled.

  • bliss!

I was so upset I turned off my laptop and slept away my sorrows else i would have cried like a baby.

  • vic

God, even the gifs. Ah. Poor fucking Oberyn. God damn it. I read the books first and everything. Nothing prepares you...

Looks like someone made some wise decisions:

    The teeth... my god...the teeth..

  • lowercase_see

I accidentally gave away to my friends what was about to happen because I went from watching intently to cowering on the sofa with the neck of my t-shirt pulled up to my forehead. But nothing blocked that scream ...

  • SmmrColl8

to watch it simple google ACCESSTV INFO

  • ZbornakSyndrome

I knew it was coming, and I still yelped.
I will comfort myself with the knowledge that' he's too impossibly charming to stay off my television for long.

  • Skyler Durden

I didn't know about the specifics involved, but I knew the end result because some random asshole blurted it out ON THE COMMENT SECTION OF AN X-MEN FACEBOOK PHOTO. People are the fucking worst.

Pajba is becoming the only place where I feel safe.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

Well now, that sounds like a challenge.

  • JJ

"Pajba is becoming the only place where I feel safe."

And cue "The Rains of Castamere"...

  • Sean Van Damme

If I watch his death as a .GIF enough times it won't feel so disgusting and brutal....right?

  • Ryan Ambrose

You see, I watch Hannibal therefore I'm immune to gore.

*watches that last shot, can no longer finish his breakfast*

  • MHJ

Specially after Will Graham did the same with a nurse. After Hannibal nothing bothers me.
    Is still gruesome thought xD

  • ZbornakSyndrome

Hannibal wouldn't dream of killing someone in such a brutal, unartistic way: Where were the entrails arranged into flowers? Where was the meticulously placed horns? Not one metaphor.

  • Bea Pants

That ending may have been too brutal even for Dethklok.

  • Marc Greene
  • ZbornakSyndrome

Dethklok WISHES it was that metal.

  • It was the most brutal, metal ending ever

  • DorettaMeadows

I have really like it Game to Play .

  • JustOP

The ending was THE most brutal thing to have aired on GOT. It was just... so brutal. Like, brutal is a word that describes a lot of stuff in GOT, but this, this was just on another level. I think it was because it was just basically the sheer destruction of his face:
    1. Punch to face, knocking half his teeth out.
    2. Choked slammed to floor, dribbling blood and teeth down his chin and neck.
    3. Fingers plunged into eyes, the mouth wide open with the bloody sores where his teeth used to be.
    4. The reaction of everyone around him, particularly his missus.
    5. Splat.
And that fucking scream. It will haunt my dreams.

  • PDamian

The scream was perfect -- Ellaria clawing at her cheeks, her eyes huge, her whole face a rictus of horror. Jaime's enjoyment of the combat, followed by the horror on his face, was perfect. Oberyn's taunting of Tywin, and Tywin's silent fury, were perfect. Really, the brutal ending was all the more effective for the fantastic acting that came before and after. (It does sort of make the scenes with Dany and Jorah a little dull, but oh, well. Emilia Clarke needs to step up her game.)

  • TK

It's not just that the great characters die. It's that they die horribly. Oof.

  • Slim

It is a horrible, gruesome death, but at least it's not slow. I struggle with the idea of those more... the crucified slave kids, all of the burning deaths, the Iron-born Ramsey certainly torture-flayed, the women at Craster's. Our dear man only suffered for a brief few moments before there was no more pain.

  • Palandt

It's wasn't slow? Getting your eyes pushed into your skull while feeling your head about to go kersplat doesn't sound like instant and painless.

  • Jack London

I was eating a taco while watching that last scene. That was a poor choice on my part.

  • Brock Samsa

Did you finish said taco, that is the question.

  • Jack London

I wanted to, but I didn't trust my teeth.

  • Go find Lena Headey's instagram message. That was perfect.

  • Jack London

    Here you go.

  • PDamian

Something tells me the cast of GoT is really going to miss not having Pedro Pascal around all the time. There have been so many photos of Pascal with other cast members in which they're all laughing and happy, dining out, on the beach, at a cast party, etc. There have also been a few recent photos of cast parties with Jason Momoa in which the regulars don't exactly appear to be thrilled to see him; I'm thinking Pascal can come back to visit any time and be welcomed with open arms.

  • There'll Be Pancakes

Why is every single photo of them so perfect? I am fully invested in a hook-up between these two.
Where has Pedro been hiding? He needs to be in every tv show ever.
