From Dame to Queen to Madam

Working with her husband (director Taylor Hackford) for the first time since they met on the set of his film White Nights, Dame Helen Mirren takes on the role of a brothel madam in Love Ranch. The film is inspired by the real life story of the first legalized whorehouse in Nevada, the Mustang Ranch, opened in 1971 by Sally and Joe Conforte. The couple’s involvement in a love triangle is also explored. Starring alongside Mirren are Bryan Cranston, Joe Pesci, Gina Gershon, and Bai Ling (really?).

Not normally given to in-depth research, Mirren was “dragged screaming and kicking” by Hackford into spending a day (and night) at the Mustang Ranch with the current madam; Hackford said he could hardly get Mirren to leave the bar at 4 a.m. (Ah, to be a fly on that wall!)

Love Ranch has been hanging around a while due to financial issues, but it’s finally gotten a June 30th limited release date.

I NEED to see this movie. And fuck that fly! I want a goddamned bar stool in between the dame and the madame. I dare say we'd really hit it off. Helen would round up some hookers and hooch, I'd rustle up a game of trivial and strip pursuit, and we'd all have a gay old time. But not in my pants, 'cause they'll be swinging from the chandeliers before you can say "geriatric sexpot moviestar and deranged Dutch girl in Love Ranch board game prostitution scandal"

I saw an interview of them about this and it looks fantastic. Helen Mirren followed the madam around and found it so interesting that she didn't want to leave.

Did you know Gina Gershon is 47?! Goddamn I want to look that good, someday. Brunettes definitely age better...(Sandra Bullock is 45) except for Dame Helen of course.
