Rashida Jones: Geeky Cute

Hang On to Those Corn Chips, Geeks / Dustin Rowles

Here’s a cute idea from a cute star, Rashida Jones, who has depths previously unknown (and who is also about to provide a geek chubby to a lot of Pajibans once they learn this). Jones is optioning a comic book, Frenemy of the State, for a big-screen version that she will co-write with Will McCormick. The geeky news: She’s actually co-writing the comic-book, too, with husband and wife team, Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, along with artist Jeff Wamester.

Rashida Jones: Quirky cute. Daughter of a media mogul. And a comic-book writer (she’s also a model and a musician, but that’s hardly of interest to me).

Frenemy of the State follows an early 20-something female, who has lived a life of privilege, but her tendency to spy on her ex-boyfriends gets her in trouble. So, in order to avoid jail-time, the woman brokers a deal to use her talents as a spy for the CIA.

As Jones notes: “There is a comic element to it, this girl who is so conscious of social standing and wearing the right shoes, suddenly becoming responsible for these dangerous, life-threatening missions.”

Like I said: Cute.

I think she is prettier, funnier, and more talented then Pam. She deserves an inclusion on the Pajiba 10 next year.

She's prettier than Pam but it didn't matter because Jim was already completely smitten. I liked her in I Love You, Man.

Wasn't she in Boston Public? I seems to remember her being hot there too

Posted by: Lukee at October 14, 2009 9:09 PM

She dated Jim in real life yet they had no chemistry on screen.

The fact that she may have touched or even ridden atop the Krasinski penis makes me extremely angry with her. But damn if she isn't cute as a button!

Mrs. Not NY, who loves Legally Blonde, thinks that is the worst movie idea ever.

I, for one, vomited a little.

John Krasinski has never EVER known the touch of a woman. I am sure of it. Positive. He's saving himself for me. Nobody can convince me otherwise. Therefore there's no reason to hate Rashida Jones, and I can think she's awesome and adorable.

OR, perhaps he has known lots of man-touches.

Hey, a guy can dream....

I love me some Rashida.

Posted by: NJ at October 15, 2009 1:35 AM

I would do vile, vile things unbecoming of such a cutie to that woman.

Posted by: spideychris at October 15, 2009 1:52 AM

Do you think she'd let me live in a tent in her backyard?

Posted by: Daniel Hall at October 15, 2009 1:56 AM

I think the hottest thing about her is that Norma from the Double R is her mother. I always had a thing for Peggy Lipton even though she never made a good movie.

Fuck "cute". Rashida Jones is gorgeous and very funny. I like Pam too but Jim was a goddam idiot. The worst part if Parks & Rec gets cancelled will be losing weekly doses of Rashida.

Tyler et al.: I couldn't agree more. Generally, I find this site is guiltier of overhyping the merely cute (Kristin Bell), but in this case it's guilty of underhyping a legitimately beautiful woman. Nothing geeky about her.

Posted by: samantha t at October 15, 2009 9:05 AM

Love her too. I thought the chemistry was good with her and Jim, especially early on (the episode where they play counter strike comes to mind), but, yeah, the characters didn't work as a couple, so...good for Pam.

That Krasinki defiled her with his clumsy, oafish touch is nauseating. That Krasinki, who looks like a young Karl Malden, gives Pajibettes the ladyboner is mystifying.

Tracer: I don't think he's that cute, either. Give me Stanley any day of the week!

Posted by: samantha t at October 15, 2009 12:36 PM

Ugh, don't google search images of her. The first one I found linked to a 'White Pride World Wide' site using her as an example to distinguish race and color.

Now I feel sick.

Cute? Very
Geek magnet? Totes megotes.
Talented? Does anybody really know? She is always either the straight woman or the token girlfriend. I like watching her plenty, because, well, she's cute as a button, but I've never found myself thinking "wow, she is a talented actress"

Anywhere I could find some spotlight of her talent? I've seen parks and rec, and the office, and I love you man.

Posted by: Chayes at October 15, 2009 5:51 PM

TylerDFC: I don't think anyone here is using 'cute' and 'geeky' to mean anything less than beautiful. Nobody's underselling the lovely Rashida here...

Posted by: Daniel Hall at October 15, 2009 8:09 PM

She is absolutely adorable, and I love her voice. But I agree with Chayes, I don't necessarily think of her as a talented actress. Not that I think she's a bad actress, I just haven't seen her do anything exceptional yet.

And I hate to say this, but this comic book concept sounds a little (or a lot) like all the chic-lit that's already out there. Cute, quirky woman who loves shoes and obsesses over men who aren't interested in her, turns her weird talents into a successful career.

Posted by: lucy at October 16, 2009 1:15 PM

I adore this woman, but the prospect of yet another spy comedy bores the hell out of me.

Posted by: Zack at October 16, 2009 2:36 PM

love love love Rashida Jones. I think she's not realized her full potential yet. As a comedy or serious actress.

She needs to get some interesting roles and we will see of she's everything we think she could be.
