Foundation is the legendary science fiction series by Isaac Asimov, telling the story of the fall of the 10,000-year Galactic Empire into a new dark age, a dark age foreseen by predictive social scientists such that they plan for it, in order to minimize its effect. The tale spans millennia, has no continuous characters running throughout, was originally published as a series of short stories, and is considered one of the greatest works of science fiction of the twentieth century. Naturally Roland Emmerich is planning a trilogy of movies. *Twitch*

Ok, well at least Ron Moore can save us!

Oh, crying and laughing at the same time, it must be Tuesday. *Twitch* *Twitch*

If we could just develop a twitch-based power supply, we could end our dependence on foreign oil once and for all.

so instead of "tech the teching tech" we got "frack the fracking frack"?

"The Foundation Trilogy" is my science-fiction touchstone, an extraordinary work that deals in the fantastic but is so grounded in the reality Asimov creates that you buy into it from the start.
Emmerich will destroy these stories for anyone who loves the books and I highly recommend that rather than supporting these sure-to-be travesties, that you hit the local lending library and immerse yourself in Asimov's brillliant words.

So between the shittacular capacities of Emmerich and Ron Moore's desire to stick angels in everything, this will be...Battlefield Earth v2.0?

You have got to be shitting me. This is terrible news. Why would they choose this? True fans dont want a damn movie. There are dozens of other stories that would make for better choices, hell, i think american would rather watch an do-over of leprechan 3 in space. That had a princess who killed people by flashing her tits, peeing jokes, spaceships, explosions. That is what america wants in their sci fi movies. Leave real sci fi to people who appreciate it for what it is supposed to be about.

Well. that didn't take long did it? I know that we here in Pajibalandia get pretty excited about re-makes, boots and the gentle anal proddings of our beloved classics. But I'm not that upset about this little piece of news. No, not at all. As a matter of fact, I'm so unaffected by Emmerich and Moore's desire to Donkey Punch The Foundation that I'm just going to go over here and pet this kitten.

You know, it would be a shame if anything should happen to this kitten. It would be absolutely terrible if, for every frame of this film that is shot, a kitten were to lose its cute little tail. I suppose it's a good thing that I'm totally at peace with the announcement of this project. Have a good day all. :)

Please let the kitten be, admin.

Be kind to George instead.

So, I assume that we can expect the same veracity to the story, themes, characters and artistry as we got with the movie adaptation of I Robot. (The one that hit film, not the famous Harlan Ellison script.) That makes me ...

Actually, that makes me wish that taking kittens hostage would deter anyone from making these movies. We can just not go, but what about the herds of drone-lemmings who will? And what makes them attend such dreck anyway?

I've got a theory - the Zombie Apacolypse(tm). It's here. They look just like everyone else. The only difference is that they go to see dreck like this. Discuss.

I take solace in the fact that the first one will suck so completely they certainly won't get to Foundation and Empire or Second Foundation.

Maybe if 2012: Mayan Clusterfuck tanks he won't get financing for any of them.

Posted by: ed newman at October 13, 2009 11:17 AM

Sadly, I doubt 2012: Mayan Clusterfuck will tank.

And Leprechaun 3: In Space was a masterpiece. Seriously, that's how to make a shitballs retarded movie enjoyable. Quit hatin'!!

After I,Robot there's going to be an audience of zero for this movie. Asimov fans won't even consider it -- it won't even be on their radar -- and if you describe a movie as a "thoughtful examination of the rise and fall of an intergalactic empire", that's not exactly going to slam asses into theater seats.

I'm not a giant Asimov fan. I think he never had much depth to his characters, although I appreciated the way he could lay out plot. But I have to wonder if there are *any* of his stories or novels that would make interesting movies.

Nightfall, The Naked Sun or maybe Caves of Steel.

caves of steel could absolutely make for a great movie. I was not hating on leprechaun 3. I love it. My point is that what most people want from their sci fi are the elements packaged in L3, only from slightly more well known actors, with better special effects and with a little bit more plot.

Now that I think about it, if Leprechaun 3 had been given as big of a release as Transformers 2, I bet more people would have enjoyed it, despite it being intentionally stupid.

Carry on.

Heyyyyyyy... Gollum's been trying to land an acting gig since the Trilogy wrapped up. He could be cast as The Mule, right? I mean, it's typecasting but what else is the guy gonna do? It's not like he's gonna co-lead a rom-com with Rainbow Killer.
