Madonna Attempts to Hide Lack of Talent Behind Sex and Bad Mustache

See Madonna Run / Dustin Rowles

As much as we complain when actors and actresses record albums despite any noticeable talent, the same goes for some pop stars. Madonna isn’t a particularly talented actress, but — if her directorial debut, Filth and Wisdom is any indication — her directing skills are on par with Lindsay Lohan’s singing career. And, of course, she tries the oldest trick in the indie book: If you lack substance and talent, just use a European cast and setting; it’ll look smart, even if it isn’t. It’s a lot like burying your singing voice in layers and layers of synth. It helps, too, to make your movie dirty, giving it a faux-provocative feel.

That Madonna — she somehow managed to suck out half of Guy Ritchie’s talent without absorbing an ounce of it. Here’s the trailer:

I wish I could see this trailer, 'cause I lurve Eugene Hütz. Seriously, I luuurve him.

Lord. I'm so tired of this ropey slag.

Posted by: Mella at September 30, 2008 11:16 AM

I want to hate it. It looks really terrible. But it's Eugene Hutz!
Maybe I should bank on good music and a bad script?

Posted by: Zuzu at September 30, 2008 11:22 AM

I actually liked the trailer. Hope the movie is fun.

Posted by: Sofía at September 30, 2008 11:50 AM

So Madonna is directing the next Borat movie? Niiice.

Posted by: Soup Sandwich at September 30, 2008 11:52 AM

so...it's a movie about Gunther?

Posted by: s. pisaster at September 30, 2008 11:57 AM

Why is Madonna directing Dov Charney's biopic?

Topic aside,

Special note for Dustin and all 'Rainbow Killer' haters-

First, the confession: I actually DVR'd the 'Grey's Anatomy' season premiere from last Thursday night, but only watched (half of) it yesterday. Please chastise me at will, but not before you read the lines I'm quoting below from the show itself.

(Izzie, Heigl's character, looks into an office where a fellow co-worker, Alex, is apparently reading some medical thingie, 'cause he's a doctor)

Izzie/Heigl: Hello?? Alex, why are you ignoring me?

Alex: I'm hoping if I wait long enough you'll be as annoyed by the sound of your own voice as I am and just shut up.

HAH!

Nice to see that the 'Anatomy' writers don't hold any grudges against the gal who earlier lamented not getting the "quality" writing material that would justify an Emmy nomination.

Okay, carry on...

Eugene Hutz makes my uterus hurt.
In a good, baffling sort of way.

It's like they smashed Borat and Alex (Everything is Illuminated, also Eugene Hutz) together for spezial adventure in London. I wish Madonna wasn't attached.

Posted by: amanda47 at September 30, 2008 12:29 PM

This trailer doesn't look as bad as some of the other trailers featured on this site that get a pass.

Posted by: Adam at September 30, 2008 1:17 PM

Argh, why does Madonna have to taint my sweet pure love for Eugene Hutz?! Well, at least he's in another movie so I can worship his mustache.

Posted by: Claire at September 30, 2008 1:29 PM

Good Godopus that's bad.

Posted by: Cindy at September 30, 2008 1:30 PM

Hell, that was better than the trailer for "Seven Pounds."

Posted by: BWeaves at September 30, 2008 1:35 PM

It kind of looks like it will be the Help! for Gogol Bordello. Or the closest they will ever get.

But damn, I love Eugene Hutz, and Yuri Lemeshev is on camera!!! Say what you want about Madonna, but she seems to have made some pretty respectable choices here.

Posted by: lastpolarbear at September 30, 2008 1:48 PM

Thank you madonna you've made me hate Eugene Hutz, and also myself.

Posted by: sara at September 30, 2008 2:13 PM

Is Eugene Hutz the guy with the crazy pornstache? Because I kind of have a tremendous crush on him right now, which is kind of making me want to see this ... "movie".

Posted by: "Sybil" "Knife Pile" von Beaverplatz at September 30, 2008 2:15 PM

Why don't they just call it American Apparel: the movie?

Posted by: firedmyass at September 30, 2008 2:31 PM

Who cares? It's the Hutz! The man is pure weird sexiness. I'll just ignore the fact that it's done by Madonna.

Posted by: Captainmndapnda at September 30, 2008 3:22 PM

So I'm in the middle of a Veronica Mars marathon - is that top picture Deputy Sacks??

Posted by: lordhelmet at September 30, 2008 4:25 PM

For fucks sake, it looks like My asshole directed that!

Posted by: Trevor at September 30, 2008 9:38 PM

Honestly, throughout the trailer I thought it was Eugene Hutz but I was secretly hoping that it would turn out to be Jason Flemyng (he was in two Guy Ritchie movies so I figured the link was there and he's my ultimate Britcrush).

I do love Eugene Hutz though, even if all of Gogol Bordello's songs are about fucking (no, really, they are), and a few people have already mentioned Everything is Illuminated so I won't make a "premium penis" or Sammy Davis Jr Jr joke.

Posted by: Renee at September 30, 2008 9:48 PM

Dear God...
I love Eugene Hutz. I want to marry him and have his babies...

Posted by: Gogol Bordello lover/Madonna hater at September 30, 2008 10:53 PM

Weird vibe on the trailer. They almost had me until the unfortunate phrase "madcap raunchiness" appeared onscreen...

Posted by: Che Grovera at October 1, 2008 12:29 AM

I think I'll pass. Okay, maybe I'll give shit to a few people Madonna fans that are sure to watch it. But somehow I think they'll get more shit from the movie itself.

Posted by: JC at October 1, 2008 1:25 AM

I'll see this...no Madonna on screen and Gogol Bordello...mmmrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreow!

Posted by: brite at October 1, 2008 3:48 AM

I agree with this post; not to mention, I think Eugene Hutz is annoying as hell. He just exploits the same schtik over and over - he's got nothing else to offer.

Posted by: Xerxes at October 1, 2008 2:26 PM

This film has the same inquiry into the human condition, not to mention soundtrack, as the film "Wrist Cutters" but with a sloppier style and the aforementioned over-the-top sex.

Posted by: Dan at October 5, 2008 1:18 PM

Will sit through it for Eugene. Gogol Bordello. Mmmm.Tasty.
