Female Breadwinners Are "Tearing This World Apart" Says Bloviating Fox News Jackasses

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | June 14, 2013 | Comments ()

A new study has come out that says that 40 percent of families now have female breadwinners. This is cataclysmic. It's tearing our society apart. "Society is dissolving around us." What we are seeing is the "disintegration of marriage ... something is going terribly wrong in American society, and it's hurting our children. I DON'T SEE HOW YOU CAN ARGUE THIS."

You know how those women have been able to become the family breadwinners? "Fifty-four million abortions since Roe v. Wade," that's how. This is anti-science. It's "against the natural order." Males in other species are the dominant gender, and that's the way it should be. "We, as a society, have lost the ability to have complementary relationships in a nuclear family, and it's TEARING US APART."

"Politicians won't admit it. They're scared to say it." But the truth is, "it's tearing apart minority communities even worse than white communities in this country."

"This is a CATASTROPHIC ISSUE. We are losing a generation. Bottom line, it could undermine our social order. It may in fact be doing that!"

Why did I click on this? And then having read it, why did I watch it? I think I am going to vomit. I knew it was going to be horrible. I knew it was either going to make me go on a murderous rampage or curl up in a ball on my bed die. I hate the world so much right now. I really think I am going to vomit. I need to find comedy, stat.

  • clancys_daddy

"bloviating fox new jackasses" You could have just said fox news the rest we pretty much knew already. No I didn't watch the video, why would I?

  • dizzylucy

I guess "science" is only usable for extreme conservative arguments when they think it suits their position.

  • e jerry powell

That can be your contribution to restoring cultural order.

Imagine how much faster women could dismantle society with equal pay!

Erick Erickson, your name sounds like you should be a blonde, cartoon high school bully. Go back to the 1950s where you belong.

    Erick Erickson?

Worst. Viking. Ever. Consistently pillages the women and rapes the towns.

    ... and burns the loot.

  • competitivenonfiction

What can I say? Some of us just want to watch the world burn.

  • Fabius_Maximus

    Anybody up for sausage?

  • competitivenonfiction

Oh my God. You NEVER bring sausage to a feminist world burning party.

  • Fabius_Maximus

Why not? It's made for burning, isn't it?

  • foolsage

    I brought marshmallows.

I'm a 44y/o white male army veteran that lives in TX and was raised Christian, so I should fall into the Fox demographic. Fortunately my parents raised me not to be racist, homophobic or misogynistic, so I dodged those bullets. Education and life experience further reinforced that what they taught me was truth. News flash - people of both sexes, all races, and of all sexual orientations can be geniuses or idiots. They can be driven or lazy. There is no exclusivity to these "clubs". It should be our goal as Americans to try and make our countrymen (and women - sorry countrypeople isn't a word) as smart and productive as possible and praise them when they do. If you can't get on board with that, then go ahead and die already to make room for the next generation that is striving towards that.

BTW, Rupert Murdoch is now divorcing his third wife - way to set the example for good Christian values. Fortunately he's 82 and should be on his way out soon. I hope the fucktard gene isn't as dominant in his kids.

  • disqus_mQPW6cixfl

Mrs. , just handed me her pay stub. I sure wish she made 10 times as much.

  • The nature argument is such a laugh. My (second) favorite book in my son's room is Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle. Allow me to drop some knowledge:

"Are you ready for a scintillating seahorse fact? The father seahorse is
the one who carries the mother's eggs around in his pouch before they
hatch. In Mister Seahorse, master collage artist Eric Carle
teaches preschoolers this lesson and introduces them to a few other
fish who bear the traditionally maternal burden of caring for eggs: the
stickleback, tilapia, Kurtus nurseryfish (known here as Mr. Kurtus),
    pipefish, and bullhead catfish."

Since my husband stays home with our son during the day (and works at night), we are becoming all too familiar with the disjointed way the world views and treats SAHDs. Diaper changing station in a men's room? Pretty damn rare it turns out...

  • BobbFrapples

I'm winning my bread even if Fox can't handle it.

Oh, and in elephant societies, the boys are kicked out of the matriarchal family/unit. In elephant societies, the matriarch is the protector of the group. Sperm whale societies VERY closely resemble elephant societies. Oxen and buffalo and cattle societies are also matriarchal where the boys are kicked out at a certain age. Given the mammalian commonality, wonder if humans were a naturally matriarchal and dimorphism prevailed as the boys HAD to compete to be able to partake in that matriarchal society.....

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Males tend to leave more often in animal groups because paternity isn't easy to identify (since males do jack shit as far as child rearing most of the time), and male dispersal is an easy way of minimizing risk of inbreeding. It's not particularly relevant to any kind of matriarchy versus patriarchy consideration (I mean, you cite cows in one example-- there's not any kind of -archy at all there).

And sexual dimorphism is pretty much inherently a response to sexual competition pressure. Some feature improves your odds of getting a mate, obviously the individuals with that feature breed more, rinse and repeat over a hundred generations and you have outsized canines on baboons or crazy peacock flair or what have you. It's generally independent of which sex might dominate in social organization.

  • Archie Leach

Uuuuhhhhmmmm..... ask any herder and they'll tell that amongst domesticated cattle, there IS a matriarch. And yes I understand how dimorphism works. That was my whole point: as humans are mammals and we know from other species of mammals and we have the example of the gorilla, that if humans followed the "natural" practice of the mammal, then would humans have the "look" of the big silverback brooding over his harem?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Sure, but calling something "matriarchy", especially when we're including humans, carries all kinds of connotations that the majority of animals don't really touch on. So it's a bit misleading.

But why are you assuming humans aren't following a natural practice? Social organization is driven by a whole mess of things, from previously mentioned avoidance of inbreeding to predator defense/evasion or resource availability. You can get apparently monogamous nuclear families "naturally", these Fox News jackasses probably love to trot out something like gibbons for just that reason, but they exhibit "monogamy" (doesn't stop them hooking up with other gibbons on the side-- so hey, very human) and minimal sexual dimorphism out of requirements for small group size (to be simplistic) so as to most successfully exploit there feeding resources. Some primitive default condition of matriarchy simply is not a thing. The organization that works is the one that gets used; but sure, in mammals, yeah, that tends towards something very female-centric (if not female dominated), for pretty simple reasons.

  • TherecanbeonlyoneAdmin

Look people, this is a serious issue. Women are the stitching that holds society together. If they get it in their brains (which are smaller than men's [it's science]) that they can go out and be independent and make money and have lives that don't revolve their husbands, children, and homes, we will have no thread with which to hold together our societal jeans.

Have you ever tried to make a pair of society jeans without thread? Sure you've got yards and yards of societal fabric but you're trying to keep it together with societal glue that loses it's adhesion as soon as you wash your society jeans. We need that god damn societal thread!

  • Michelle Belden

I can't be the only one who responded to this spectacle of male insecurity with maniacal laughter? I want to BATHE in their fear. I just bought a house all by myself, m*th*rf*ckers! QUAKE! Pee yourselves! Drool a little! I LOVES YOUR FRAIDY CAT TANTRUMS. (Sorry for the yelling. I get carried away sometimes, mwaHAHAHA)

  • Kathleen Allen

your comments are the only thing about this post that gives me hope for our sad world. i love you all and would like to bake you a cake. let me just put on my frilly apron, my slaving over a hot stove 3 inch heels, lock the beav in his room, and aquanet my hair.

  • kibyjay

It's the old "barefoot and pregnant" crapola again. Who let them damn ballbreaking females attend school anyway? If we had taken away their booklearning years ago we wouldn't be in this mess.

  • BlackRabbit

It was the vote. It started the dominos falling.

  • Bert_McGurt

I didn't watch the video, but I'm assuming it went something like this:

"I don't know about you Lou, but all this talk about women breadwinners makes me feel pretty self-conscious about my small penis."

"Well of course it does Frank. We all know how expensive overcompensating is in today's economy. Just putting gas in my obnoxious truck costs an extra $5 a tank compared to last year!"

"Clearly this is all a conspiracy orchestrated by the anti-tiny-penii movement. The question is, where does it END?"

"I don't know if I want to live in a world where a man like me has to get by on his PERSONALITY, Joe. I don't even know how that works. Do I have to learn to juggle?"

  • Karlew

I want vote you comment up 1 million times

  • Leigh

    Seconded! Cracked me up.

  • Grimm

Fuck you, Juan Williams, you backstabbing son of a bitch. You're going to get up there with all those old white men who support everything that is hurting minority advancement, and tell us that female breadwinners are having a negative impact on minorities? Fuck you right in your goddamn Uncle Tom face.

  • Wednesday

You know, I'm a single mother, and most of my daughter's friends have single mothers, and none of us actually sat down and said, you know what I want for my kids? One parent who has to do it all. It was the least-worst choice -- if it was a choice at all -- for every one of us. I shudder to think of what would happen to our kids if we couldn't work at a somewhat comparable pay rate just because of our "real" place as women and mothers.

So Fox News can reminisce their asses right back to that brief window of Leave-It-to-Beaver Land and stay there. Because obviously history and facts mean dick-all to them. The only bright spot is these clueless dinosaurs are dying out.

  • NateMan

Ah but see, that's your punishment for having sex. They'd prefer to have your kids grow up in poverty, because that's clearly what you all deserve.

  • I'm a married SAHM and there are days when I'm JUST BARELY KEEPING IT TOGETHER. I can't imagine flying solo combined with the pressure to be the sole provider of financial AND emotional security to my family.

So I take my hat off to you.

Also I like to believe that within 15 years the viewers of Fox will all have died of old age and/or heart attack and then we can go on as though they never existed.

  • NynjaSquirrel

Sadly, no - there's enough growing up watching this shit to perpetuate it into infinity.

  • NateMan

    My favorite part:
But the truth is, “it’s tearing apart minority communities even worse than white communities in this country.”

The same old white conservative glutinous pigs who bitch and moan about the laziness of minority welfare queens are the same motherfuckers who are complaining that too many women of color are working. You just can't make that shit up.

Yeah, lots of cursing in this one. But these misogynistic testicular cancers deserve it.

  • lowercase_see

There's a great quote from Ann Richards about this. "They blame the low income women for ruining the country because they are
staying home with their children and not going out to work. They blame the middle income women for ruining the country because they go out to work and do not stay home to take care of their children."

Happier times. When us Texans had a governor we weren't ashamed of.

  • meh

Hon, I'm a Floridian. Wanna talk facepalming? I'll give you facepalming. Every. Damn. Day.

  • evie

    I live in Utah.

    BAM I WIN.

  • Karlew

No kidding! How many times a day do I have to facepalm myself because I am a Texan and some idiot in my state does or says something stupid, ignorant or just plain hateful? A gajillion, that's how many

  • lowercase_see

The silver lining to the overwhelming cloud of misogyny is that it comes from EVERYWHERE. People get down on Texas and I'm all, WAIT DUDES. LOOK. ARIZONA.

  • Karlew

No shit. Arizona has a crazy gov; ours is just an asshat. And they are more racist. Plus, what is up with dry heat?? Eww.

  • Viking

Us Virginians have plenty of politicians we can be ashamed of. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

  • lowercase_see

Wake me up when he gets to the part about rape-babies being a gift from god.

  • dizzylucy

Rape babies? Don't be silly. Your body will shut that down.

  • foolsage

Correct. According to some old white dudes with no medical knowledge at all, rape probably doesn't lead to pregnancy very often. Or if it does, well, that's God's will. Or something.

  • Maguita NYC

Correction, that would be called "Consensual Rape".

  • "Fat sexist white guy and old racist white guy say crazy things on right-wing outlet to get attention/dollars/pageviews."

Might as well just save that headline for future use.

  • Mrs. Julien

Is there a problem with the free content?

  • BWeaves

Hey, how come posts from a year ago keep showing up as brand new?

  • Fabius_Maximus

Not to mention that this story is about two weeks old.

  • pajiba

Because you forgot to take your pills.

  • foolsage

    Well, I took SOMEBODY'S pills.

    Is anyone missing some pills?

    Wait, what thread is this?

  • BWeaves

Well, if you took my pills, you should be growing boobs by now.

  • foolsage

Huh. OK, those were your pills I think.

Wait, did you mean I'd be growing them on my own body? Cause if so, those were not your pills.

  • L.O.V.E.

The same thing is happening to me, and I took A LOT of pills.

Warp Speed for the weekend! Weeeeeeeeee...

  • Mrs. Julien

I'm tearing the world apart? A checkmark for Friday!

Isn't the notion of a conventional family with a stay-at-home mom a middle/upper class one anyway. Granted, that's Fox's perceived demographic, but haven't most people below a certain line always had to work?

I assume it goes without saying that a livable minimum wage is not an option to bring things more into alignment.

  • NynjaSquirrel

But.. but - won't somebody think of the chillern!!

  • BuffyloGal

It's a Masters debate alright. The intellectual capacity of all four men on sociology would be enough to fill a pin head.

  • Nat Kittyface

I LOVE THE AGAINST NATURE ARGUMENT. I really do. Because I watched a lot of wildlife documentaries as a kid and it is the funniest argument I've ever heard. GOD, why didn't their parents ever make them watch Discovery or TLC when they were small?

How about the Lion King, at least? Dude lions totally sit around doing fuck-all while lady lions go out and hunt and kill and literally bring home the gazelle-bacon. They're mostly there to hold down the fort and for sexytimes, and determined partly by beating the shit out of other dude lions but largely by how impressive their mane is to the ladies. So if we're going by nature (at least lion nature), then TECHNICALLY we should all live in pods of all-lady co-ops with one mutually-agreed-upon buff romance novel cover-looking guy with luxurious Fabio hair who's just there to sic on assholes, catcallers, thieves, and rapists, and have sex with when it's convenient. (This is not even getting into stuff like solo lady lions and mutations where lady lions are born with manes of their own.)

I guess I'm down for that, though we'll have to create some kind of voting system for lady-pods to select their hot guy with. Shall we begin?

  • Palaeologos

Let's not forget the lowly anglerfish:

The male is not only a tiny fraction of the size of the female, they exist solely to find a mate, latch onto them, and--over a period of time--slowly wither into little more than a portable set of testes that ensure that the female never needs to bother looking for another mate.

  • Viking

Oh, have you seen the True Facts About Anglerfish?! It is one of my favorite things ever:

I actually had to do a paper on these things as an undergraduate in marine bio. class. Aside from the jokes, all that shit is true.

  • Mrs. Julien

Jesus! WARN A A PERSON before posting about deep sea creatures!

  • foolsage

Why does this make me think of Mitch McConnell?

  • NynjaSquirrel

Oh - there are so many males in the animal world that hatch, birth or rear their young - from frickin cockroaches up to penguins and monkeys. It does however amuse me to see Fox using 'science' a word they're always using in a negative context as a weapon in this argument/fuckwittery.

  • Viking

I agree with you but I think you meant to say MISusing the word science. How did any of these morons get on TV to begin with, and how are they still on the air when nothing comes out of their mouths but douchebaggery? The part of my brain that holds the information I learned while earning a MS in biology with an emphasis in ecology and animal reproductive strategies nearly exploded at their republimansplanations of 'nature', 'dominance' and 'science'. Must be because my lady-parts are making with the illogical hormones. What exactly are all the male animals dominant about? I just, I need a drink.

  • BWeaves

And what about BEES! Queen Bee is waited on by hundreds of lady bees, who bring home the pollen bacon and turn it into honey. The male bees are just there for sexy times and then die.

And then there's black widow spiders, whoo-hoo!

  • Fredo

Most of the males in the animal kingdom are kind of dicks. They inseminate via sexy times and then leave the pregnant females to sort out the damage on their own. It's actually rare for males to be involved and even rarer for the monogamous dream that those bloviating buffoons imagine is the way of things.

    But facts...ha!

My bigger question is: if more and more women are becoming the primary breadwinner, why should I be against it? Set aside single-parent households. If I'm making $65K and my boo is making $145K, you know what? I'm taking that deal and enjoying life.

  • PerpetualIntern

I saw these numbers and immediately thought you were a spambot. Is it against the law of nature if I'm the primary breadwinner, but I'm making $2500/week for just a few hours on the computer?

  • Fredo

Clearly, I am a spambot and I want you to visit this website where people met and fell in love and it's all about landing a millionaire. It's called Zucker-poontang dot org.

And I'm just putting in an extreme example. Obviously, the disparities don't have to be so extreme. But I used it to point out how people don't bat an eyelash if it's a man (say doctor or attorney) making so much more than his wife and the wife stays at home or works for far less.

  • Nat Kittyface

My husband once said that to his coworkers and he might as well have said he has eight nipples or that unicorns live in our back yard. They were like... WHAT??? THE MAN STAYING HOME?? WHAT?!?!?! And my husband was just like... uuuuh... my wife has a masters degree and I have a bachelor's. Her longterm earning potential is way higher than mine. Why would I NOT be the one to stay home?

  • NynjaSquirrel

Yes, my first wife was a research scientist... earned about three times what I did, and I was a graphic designer. If it came down to it, which wage do you think we'd have given up - and more importantly, her work towards finding cancer cures.

  • gatesong

It blows my mind a little saying this, but prepare to sort of like Megyn Kelly.

  • I don't think Erick Erickson moved anything but his jaw for the entirety of that video. His anatomy seems to have frozen up, which explains the need for his shit to excrete from the mouth.

  • Muhnah_Muhnah

Oh my, that was really quite enjoyable despite the fact that she says "I wouldn't describe myself as a feminist". Well, Megyn, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you are. You just spent 9 minutes being one anyway. Erm. Carry on.

  • gatesong

    Yeah... I mean, progress!

  • pajiba

    Thanks, Matt. That was AWESOME.

  • NynjaSquirrel

It boggles my mind why this is a: allowed to be called a news network, and b: why people watch it and lap it up. It's like the worst regime's most contrived state TV.

  • disqus_mQPW6cixfl

It exists to agitate people who can't tell the difference between news and commentary and round-table idiocy of all stripes.

Sorry, I'll see myself out now.

  • Drake

Hey, I didn't know you knew my mother and step-father !
