Felicia Day Joins "Eureka"

At Comic-Con a couple of years ago, within ten minutes of meeting the honorable Brian Prisco for the first time ever, we walked by the booth for “The Guild” and saw Felicia Day in person. I don’t really have a point, except maybe that when I think of Ms. Day, I think of Prisco. So, I got that going for me.

In any case, Sie-Fie (if they can arbitrarily misspell it, so can I), has cast Day in a guest spot in the new season of “Eureka,” playing a dorky scientist sort, which I know narrows it down to only 3/4 of the characters on the show. It seems like a good fit, in that the character appears to be for the most part the same character that she plays on “The Guild” and other shows on which she pops up. I suppose that we could be totally contrarian and argue that it’s called “acting” and not “being yourself” but let’s face it, if we like that same character an actor always plays, we sort of expect them to be that character. It becomes their brand name. We’ll call it the Clooney Corollary. I don’t know what it is the Corollary to, but I felt the alliteration was worth it.

Here’s a nifty little clip featuring Day talking about her character and the show, interspersed a bit with takes from her scenes.

“Eureka” starts its fourth and a half or fifth (depending how you count their arbitrary six month breaks in the middle of seasons) this evening.

Who? In what?

When I met Felicia Day at Dragon*Con, the first thing I noticed was that she's a lot bigger in person than the diminutive way she presents herself on-camera (or, just how the camera sees her). The second thing I noticed is that she's even more beautiful in person -- which is something common amongst Whedon actresses, strangely. And the third thing I noticed is that I was nearly speechless in her presence, as she's much more charming and disarming than the characters she plays.

But I don't watch "Eureka" and I probably won't start now. Oh, Felicia, we'll always have Atlanta...

I thought I was going bonkers when I saw her in the trailer for the new half season. I went, she's not on the show, is she? Thank you for confirming my sanity. I won't make it a point to seek the show out, but I won't shut it off either if it happens to be on.

OMG I LOVE EUREKA BEST SHOW EVAAARRR
::ahem::
Honestly, I love the show. The plot lines may be hokey but the acting is spot-on, the character development is organic and interesting, and there is actual plot continuity (Glee, take notes). Its a fun little show to watch and doesn't disappoint.
I am very excited for Ms. Day's appearance (I may start shipping her and Fargo....squeee!!!)

Donut Plains, does it still kind of play out like the monster of the week X-Files episodes? I jumped in and out occasionally in the first two seasons because I didn't seem to miss much between episodes. Is that still the case?

You've just given me a reason to watch Eureka again.

My TV watching is on the same schedule as the moon.

George Clooney actually played the same character in Ocean's 11, 12, and 13. It doesn't mean he's played the same character in every movie.

Robert, they've done a better job the last season or two of balancing MotW episodes with an overarching plotline. And last night's premiere hinted that the major story arc from last season will still have implications this season.

It's a really fun show. Sure, it's not the best written thing on TV, but you can tell the actors are really enjoying themselves and handling their parts well. This, combined with Warehouse 13 and the new show Alphas (which I haven't watched yet, but I like in concept), makes for a pretty decent night of TV on Mondays.

You know what, I'm done with Eureka and it has everything to do with Carter being a total idiot that SOMEHOW ends up figuring out what these "geniuses" can't which as it turns out is EVERYTHING, EVERY time. And, fuck that shit. I'm diverting my attention to Warehouse 13, which seems to be coming back with something interesting, and Alphas.

RobP - I too met Felicia at that same Dragon*Con, and can attest to about everything you said. She's cute onscreen, but pretty hot in person.

AND she signed an autograph to my main City of Heroes character "Johnny Lightning" (Infinity server FTW, beeshes).

Finally, I have never watched "Eureka". Couldn't tell you why, but I thought it would've been too good to last on 'SIFFY' for any length of time. I did, however, record "Alphas" for later viewing 'cause...y'know...superpowers and all.

I am SO predictible...

GL, my first CoH character was called "Victory Server" after the server we played on. People would always approach me in the game and ask me questions because they thought I was some kind of administrator.

Ah, sweet memories.

Rob, Green: I met her at SXSW and I agree with every word. She is very sweet, gracious, and complete doll. I don't watch Eureka, but I wish her well.

I don’t really have a point, except maybe that when I think of Ms. Day, I think of Prisco. So, I got that going for me.

I think they have a cure for that now, Steven.
