Fargo's Second Season Casting Just Got Very Interesting

Following last week’s news that Nick Offerman may be joining Jeffrey Donovan and Rachel Keller for Fargo’s second outing, FX has made an official announcement that they’ve brought on Kirsten Dunst and Breaking Bad’s killer Todd, Jesse Plemons.

Plemons will portray Ed Blomquist, a butcher’s assistant, and supportive husband to Dunst’s Peggy. Peggy is “…a small town beautician with big city dreams who is trying to figure out who she really is and what she really wants as she struggles with traditional societal expectations.”

Let’s just get this prediction out of the way right now; Ed’s going to use his butcher tools for something other than chopping a chicken. Dunst isn’t my favorite actress, but she’s certainly quirky and capable, and I can see her fitting well into the Fargo world.

As previously mentioned, the second season is set in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, post Vietnam (1979), and will center on young Lou Solverson (played in season one by Keith Carradine). Showrunner Noah Hawley has said we’ll meet Molly Solverson’s (Allison Tolman) mother, Betsy and “strong women” will be featured.

So what do y’all think? Good cast or great cast?

Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, and begin production in Calgary this coming January; episodes won’t air until fall, 2015.
