Everybody (Still) Loves Hugo
I'm not sure how long his sentence is, but Hurley's headed to jail again (and another island as well). Hopefully he doesn't end up dead. Like many directors/show creators, J.J. Abrams likes to use people with whom he's previously worked so I'm not surprised to hear his next television project includes Lost alumni. What is surprising is that in addition to writer/showrunner Elizabeth Sarnoff, Abrams has signed on Jorge Garcia to his new drama, Alcatraz. I might expect to see Josh Holloway or Kevin Durand, but our laid back, sweet Hurley?
According to Deadline, everyone's favorite island protector will star as Dr. Diego Soto, a "hippy geek" who is the "world's foremost authority on Alcatraz". Well now, that has a bit of a familiar ring to it; I hope he doesn't drive a Volkswagen van. Yes, the economy is bad and jobs are hard to come by, but still I wish Jorge would have gone a little further out of his comfort zone. Then again, I'm sure he'll be fabulous and bring some of the Lost contingent out to see him, perhaps that was even part of the hiring decision.
Alcatraz will follow an FBI team investigating a group of guards and prisoners who went missing thirty years ago and have now reappeared. Other than that, all we know is that the show is about mysteries, secrets and the infamous prison. (It feels like we've been down this road before.) Alcatraz is set to air on the similarly notorious Fox, giving Jorge about the same employment security as James Wolk. Good luck with that Hugo, you know we still love you.
