Et Tu, 'Luther?' Why Does Fox Think We Can't Understand British Television?

Somebody please tell me I’m dreaming?

Fox just announced they’re making an Americanized Luther, just like they did with Broadchurch. According to Deadline, the network has already signed on original series creator and writer, Neil Cross (as they did Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall). Idris Elba has agreed to executive produce; no word yet on whether he’ll pull a Tennant.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

Oh yeah, money. But seriously, this must be one a heck of a money-making scheme; just keep pumping out the remakes because American audiences are what — not smart enough to understand the British versions? Unable to decipher the accents? It’s *too hard* to turn on Netflix? What is it?

I’m not going to lie. I didn’t even try to watch Fox’s Broadchurch. Nothing against the fine American actors who were involved, but I was wholly satisfied by the original. I’m just going to ask you all one little favor: if you haven’t seen the BBC’s Luther staring Elba, Ruth Wilson and Warren Brown, find it now and binge the hell out of that show. Bring tissues. After that come back here and tell me you need an American remake, and I’ll eat my computer.

What’s next, Fox, Doctor…… *zips lips* Never mind.
