For a Brief Snapshot in Time, Shaun of the Dead Returns

I’m not usually one for photo shoots, but Empire Magazine has put together one hell of a phenomenal picture gallery, featuring a lot of actors and actresses in their iconic roles. It sounds gimmicky, and it is, but at the same time, who the hell doesn’t want to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, ever so briefly reprise their Shaun of the Dead characters for a picture-taking session? There’s a lot here you’ll recognize, although seeing Matt Damon reprise his role as Jason Bourne is kind of lame, given that Jason Bourne looks exactly like Matt Damon, only he doesn’t smile. There’s a taste below of what you can see over on the full gallery, including Arnie bringing back the shades.

Sadly, Stiller has lost that ethereal Zoolander beauty. That is not the Blue Steel that stopped bullets.

Isn't almost all the entertainment business one big gimmick? But it's still good fun. I dig these photos, especially Shaun of the Dead, my fave zombie movie ever.

Pure genius, very British and hilarious.

Posted by: barf at December 2, 2009 5:47 PM

Matt Damon as Bourne...after he's been on holiday? Er, vacation for the non-Brits in the house. I suppose he is holding a passport. Maybe he had to lie in a desert for four days to kill someone with his turban.

Posted by: Carrie at December 2, 2009 5:49 PM

Also, is Bourne married, or have they seriously put no effort into that pic at all? He could at least have been doing a judo chop or something.

Posted by: Carrie at December 2, 2009 5:51 PM

Is anyone else bothered by how recent some of these choices are? Like Gerard Butler for 300 or Keira and James for Atonement? They just aren't wearing period costumes. ::shrug::

Also, if you're going to include Tom Cruise, do Top Gun or Risky Business, or A Few Good Men (and put Nicholson with him, since he was already there). Minority Report? Really? That's iconic cinema?

Posted by: KatSings at December 2, 2009 5:53 PM

I wish they got Tim Allen to put on a space helmet, and Tom Hanks to put on a cowboy hat for this thing, but otherwise it was an awesome gallery.

Posted by: George at December 2, 2009 5:57 PM

Ooooooooooooo! Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen in SUITS. Are they wearing cufflinks? Damn, I can't tell.

Posted by: BWeaves at December 2, 2009 5:58 PM

they should have given Matt Damon a phone book.

which character is Christian Bale supposed to be?

Posted by: kerokan at December 2, 2009 6:04 PM

oh ok, I see. American Psycho.

Now I don't get Clint E. and Morgan F.

Posted by: kerokan at December 2, 2009 6:06 PM

oh oh ok ok. Unforgiven. sorry. I won't say anything else.

Posted by: kerokan at December 2, 2009 6:08 PM

@kerokan I think Christian Bale is suppose to be Bateman from American Psycho.

I liked the Harry Potter trio, but that v-neck Daniel Radcliffe was wearing was crazy. For sure, the Shaun of the Dead pics were the best!

Posted by: Peanut_Butter_And_James at December 2, 2009 6:08 PM

Enough already! Who cares about Derek Zoolander anyway? The man has only one look, for Christ's sake! Blue Steel? Ferrari? Le Tigra? They're the same face! Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

I invented the piano key necktie, I invented it! What have you done, Derek? You've done nothing! NOTHIIIING!

Posted by: ashes at December 2, 2009 6:09 PM

kerokan, Eastwood and Freeman are doing The Unforgiven, in which they co-starred, and which you should rent and watch if you've never seen it. Won an Oscarâ„¢, y'know.

Posted by: Jerce at December 2, 2009 6:10 PM

Holy wow, those photos are awesome!

Posted by: Jerce at December 2, 2009 6:13 PM

Does Jodie Foster just look better as time goes on?

Posted by: Jay at December 2, 2009 6:16 PM

Daniel Radcliffe's chest hair is freaking me the fuck out.

Stiller looks manorexic. It just isn't the same Blue Steel if your cheeks are already sunken, dude.

Laurence Fishburne looks hot as hell in the shades and suit.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at December 2, 2009 6:18 PM

Is the Jack Nicholson picture supposed to look like Weekend at Bernie's?

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at December 2, 2009 6:20 PM

See, John Cusack? See how much fun we're all having? How hard would it have been to hold the fucking boom box, you curmudgeoney old partypooper?

Posted by: bostonadrianne at December 2, 2009 6:23 PM

I would say that Jack Nicholson is either the Joker from Tim Burton's Batman or the devil from The Witches of Eastwick. But, I could be wrong.

Posted by: Peanut_Butter_And_James at December 2, 2009 6:25 PM

Cusack should have re-enacted the suicide-by-hanging scene from Better Off Dead. Damn kitten-kicker.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at December 2, 2009 6:30 PM

Dan Radcliffe is NOT going to help shake those gay rumors by wearing that shirt.

And, Emma Watson's legs made me forget that I was gay for a moment.

Posted by: Drake at December 2, 2009 6:32 PM

As Good As It Gets...or maybe About Schmidt...or maybe...damn there are too many Nicholson movies where he wears sunglasses.

Posted by: Peanut_Butter_And_James at December 2, 2009 6:33 PM

Is it odd that my favourite picture is the one with Tom Cruise from Minority Report? Yes, yes it is odd.

Posted by: Phinaeus at December 2, 2009 6:48 PM

Is it just me, or does Stiller's head look like it's photoshopped onto his body in those pictures? Really really badly.

Posted by: dsbs at December 2, 2009 6:51 PM

So it's ok I that didn't know what film Matt Damon was doing? Is the passport that important to the Bourne series that I should have smacked myself in the head for missing it at first?

Posted by: Robert at December 2, 2009 6:52 PM

I think the comedy re Mr Nicholson... is that that is *his* Blue Steel.
Same guy, same look, every movie. NOT that there's a ding dang thing
wrong with that. He's "Jack" for effs sake.

Posted by: Ms MoMo at December 2, 2009 7:16 PM

I was wondering about Jack too...like, is he just posing as "Jack Nicholson"? I guess The Joker makes sense, but still.

Some of the pictures were cool, but I was underwhelmed, generally speaking. As much as I adore McAvoy, I would HARDLY call Atonement "iconic", and the pictures just looked like he and Keira were standing around hanging out. I LOVE the pics of Mel Gibson and Sam Neill, though.

Posted by: Mimi at December 2, 2009 7:21 PM

Also, Christian Bale should have had blood splatter on his face. Just sayin'.

Posted by: Mimi at December 2, 2009 7:28 PM

Dear Lord, Keira Knightly looks awesome in those pictures.

Posted by: Jarsh at December 2, 2009 8:03 PM

Nick Frost now looks like my lesbian aunt. I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I think my favorite might actually be Kevin Spacey with the box. It could only have been improved had Gwyneth Paltrow also reprised her role by lending them her severed head.

Posted by: Snath at December 2, 2009 8:11 PM

Christian Bale needs to LOSE THE FUCKING FACIAL HAIR!! What is the point of having chiseled features if you are going to COVER THEM with facial hair?

GODTOPUS!!

Posted by: stardust at December 2, 2009 8:14 PM

The Sean and Viggo picture makes me in all tingly in my hotpants.

Posted by: redhead at December 2, 2009 8:21 PM

How has no one mentioned The Sheen?

(I have no idea what movie he's posing for. Nonetheless, Sheen!!!)

Posted by: MM at December 2, 2009 8:41 PM

Wow, that Keira photo has affected my loins. Damn she is sexy.

Posted by: Continental Almonds at December 2, 2009 9:19 PM

Top 3:

1) Keira and James (Atonement.....steam-y)
2) Matt Damon (I love me some Bourne!! Though what's up with his hair??)
3) Buzz and Woody

Posted by: grace b at December 2, 2009 9:36 PM

I was unimpressed by a fair chunk of those photos, but the Lord of the Rings boys more than made up for it. Mmmm.

Posted by: Zuzu at December 2, 2009 9:51 PM

The Sean and Viggo picture makes me in all tingly in my hotpants.

A-Jesopus-men.

I love these photos. And Clint Eastwood kicks ass.

Posted by: Cindy at December 2, 2009 10:19 PM

The Bean/Mortonsen pic will make the straightest of men turn gay. sheesh, If I had 1/10 of the manliness that those dudes exude...wow. I would be a stud.

Is it me or does Gerard Butler have major Baby-face? Stick with a beard, dude.

Posted by: gunnertec at December 3, 2009 8:53 AM

Harry Potter isn't even over yet.

Posted by: Steph at December 3, 2009 8:59 AM

Damon's photo is just lazy. Here, sit in a chair and hold a passport, everyone will totally get it.

I agree with Drake on Radcliffe's choice of shirt. I also agree with stardust on the immediate removal of Bale's facial hair, and with Mimi on the need for a little application of blood.

I do not get the Keira love. Girl has the body of a boy-child. I guess I can admire her for getting as far as she has in the entertainment industry despite a complete lack of boobs. But (and forgive me for quoting Family Guy, but it does have its moments) "you could carve a roast on her face."

Ah, Sean and Viggo. They even donned the old wigs! See, Twitards, that's how you rock the unwashed, uncombed look.

Posted by: DeadBessie at December 3, 2009 9:56 AM

MM - The Michael Sheen pic is a reference to The Queen.

Posted by: tamatha at December 3, 2009 10:30 AM

I found a HOTTEST interracial club =MixedConnect--*__*--C 0 M=for black Women and white Men, or black Men and white Women, to interact with each other. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!

Posted by: flaky at December 3, 2009 12:21 PM

I really thought that was Rachel Griffiths with Anthony Hopkins, and was trying to figure out wtf was going on.

Posted by: Reina at December 3, 2009 4:16 PM

Oh come on! where is Sharon Stone sitting on a chair with crossed legs (Basic Instinct), where is Uma Thurman with a katana (Kill Bill)?

Those are the most iconic characters in the last decade if you ask me, not Michael Sheen's British PM nor Keira Knightley's whatever.

Fail.
