Don't Call It "The Facebook Movie"

It sounded like a joke at first. A “Facebook” movie sounds as stupid as a film about board games or childhood toys. But this one is supposed to be different. Aaron Sorkin is writing the script and the man is damn good. Dustin got to look at the script and he loved it. And I don’t mean to derail this article, but if Pajiba does a “10 Best Pilots of The Past 10 Years”, I’d say Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip deserves an honorable mention, at least.
If Sorkin isn’t enough, it’s being directed by David Fincher. It’s safe to say he’s an excellent director, but if his recent output (Zodiac, Benjamin Button) says anything, it’ll be about 3 hours long and a lot of folks might risk death by boredom.
Here’s the poster, featuring Jesse Eisenburg, who’ll play Zuckerberg.

Pretty simple. I’d argue that it’s a bit of a dumb joke but it could be worse.

Hey font nerds (And I know you exist), what do they call that Wes Anderson style font?

Discuss.

And hey, have we pimped the Pajiba Facebook Group lately? If you’re bored at work, there’s a bunch of Pajibans who’ll comment on every status you’ve got. In fact, you might want to get a separate Pajiba account so they don’t scare off the normies. Give it a shot. You know you don’t have enough Skitz in your life.

I don't care what y'all think. I'm excited for this movie. I love David Fincher.
And I love Jesse Eisenberg.
And I love Facebook.

So there.

It's a soul-crushingly lame idea for a movie. And Fincher has now resorted to making bad Forrest Gump rip-offs and thinking that length equals quality. And Eisenberg plays the same character in every movie.

So there.

Futura! My favorite font!

Also, kindly shut your hole. Zodiac was badass!

Posted by: Gaius at June 20, 2010 6:50 PM

Dustin got to look at the script? Well, lah-di-dah!

Read the script and it was FANTASTIC. I'm super excited for this.

Touche, Rhyme. It's funny because it's true.

"Also, kindly shut your hole. Zodiac was badass!"

Badass...ly tedious, yes. With Robert Downey Jr. playing...Robert Downey Jr. (perusual).

Posted by: Case at June 20, 2010 7:26 PM

Cate Blanchett in a red dress made Benjamin Button one of the greatest movies of all time. FACT.

Posted by: AmbroseKalifornia at June 20, 2010 8:06 PM

Futura Bold, to be specific.

No one from Pajiba ever comments on my statuses...*sniffle*...

...KITTENS!

Posted by: ChristianH at June 20, 2010 9:05 PM

Also, if they end up doing that "10 Pilots" list, Kings should be number one, IMO.

Posted by: ChristianH at June 20, 2010 9:13 PM

Dont you dare hate on Zodiac. Jake G. being awkwardly sexy and Robert Downey Jr. playing Robert Downey Jr. are all I need. If I could eat enough space honey to be in a coma dream with them forever, I would.

1. Hey, Dustin! If you end up doing a Top Ten Pilots list, don't forget The West Wing, which has that awesome pilot that makes me stand up, do the one-person wave, and go W OOOOOO! every time I see it. In fact, I'm doing it now just remembering it! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

2. Aaron Sorkin's writing and Jesse Eisenberg being better than Michael Cera? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

3. I may or may not have overdosed on nutella + Springsteen today. A dangerous combination. I make no apology, however, for my excessive WOOOO!ing.

The Wes Anderson font is called "Futura".

Posted by: Font Nerd at June 21, 2010 1:34 AM

Dexter's pilot episode was pretty amazing

Posted by: sailboat at June 21, 2010 1:58 AM

If you don't count the miniseries (and, I don't know, should you? Does it even work like this?), then the very first episode of BSG, called "33", was powerfully badassian. As I recall, it's that particular kind of badass that remains rooted the entire time to the very edge of a couch.

The Spaced pilot was pretty good too.

Lumping Zodiac with Button is pretty ridiculous, surely. Zodiac is one of Fincher's best films, whatever audiences might think about being asked to sit in a cinema longer than two-and-a-bit hours. It's terrifying and clever and every bit as good as Seven.

Button, on the other hand, sucked. But then again, given that The Social Network, like Button, isn't an urban thriller/action/police thing like all his best work, maybe that doesn't bode so well...

I'd guess that's Futura with a good amount of kerning.

Font Nerd out.

Posted by: Red Mosquito at June 21, 2010 9:40 AM

Matt, that Futurama reference made me smile. Thank you.

Posted by: Patty O'Green at June 21, 2010 10:01 AM

Isn't the poster missing a verb? Shouldn't it say, "You don't get to HAVE 500 million friends without making a few enemies" or "You don't get to MAKE 500 million friends without making a few enemies" or something like that?

Posted by: BWeaves at June 21, 2010 10:08 AM

bweaves: It's written as a quantity. As in "I'm up to 200 friends on Facebook". You don't really "make" or "have" them on Facebook, you acquire them.

I can see now why Facebook Case made a point of distancing himself from Pajiba Case.

I'm sure somebody has said it already, but Wes Anderson's font is FUTURA BOLD.

Posted by: Martin at June 22, 2010 7:51 PM

for you font nerds... you're retarded... it's not futura except when its condensed italic... when regular.. the fonts N's, M's, and W's are different
