Donald Glover, Who Recently Ditched "Community," Has Lined Up a New Comedy Series on FX

You knew there had to be more reason than simply wanting to further explore his musical career as Childish Gambino behind Donald Glover’s decision to leave “Community.” In fact, he has never either confirmed or denied that his musical career was behind that decision. The fact that Glover is now taking a lead role in a comedy sitcom he is set to create, producer, star, and write also suggests that maybe Glover just wanted to do something that required more of him, that allowed him to do other things besides play Troy Barnes.

You can’t fault a guy for wanting more.

The comedy has landed at FX, after several other suitors lost out. We don’t know much about it except for what Deadline has revealed: That it is tentatively entitled “Atlanta,” that it’s a half hour, and that it is set against the backdrop of the Atlanta music scene, something which with Glover is very familiar having grown up in Atlanta.

I'm on board. Glover? Yes. FX? Yes.

Of course, he really grew up in Stone Mountain, GA, not Atlanta. Where the Chuckle Hut becomes a Laugh Factory at night, and a guy with a puppet named Pumpkin is the biggest star around.

peppy bismilk!? why is everything slightly different here

As someone who was born and raised in Atlanta (but like, really in Atlanta, none of that Roswell/Alpharetta/Dunwoody shit) and has been moderately involved in the Atlanta music scene, this is making me pretty excited. Atlanta! Woo!

    I look at FX and I'm like, good on you, you guys have really done well for yourselves. You have turned yourself into a must have network with a series of impressive decisions. This FXX looks promising too, I mean you guys are set up to be on the cutting edge of comedy for years to come;
    - Louie
    - Archer
    - The League
    - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    - and sometimes even Wilfred
    - Anger Manag....

Seriously, like 1,000 episodes of Anger Management?!?!

fuck you guys, I take it all back.

  • googergieger

Sunny is still phoning along? Huh.

  • Guest

Yeah the Anger Management thing kills me but whats worse is the fact the Archer isn't available in Canada (even with a FX subscription).

  • lowercase_ryan

That's just ridiculous, sorry for excluding you.

Also, did you get a tan or something?

No, just trying distance myself from my milk chocolate past.

You pirate the show, is what. If a TV show doesn't even make itself available here, I don't feel badly about it.

    Looking at you, Futurama.

My guess he was tired of all the behind the scenes drama on Community.

    Phew! *wipes brow*

I mean, we were all getting Chappelle vibes right?
