Lookit, FOX network. I don’t appreciate that you dumped Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” on Friday nights (debuting next week), but you know what: I’m still going to watch the show. Whedon always gets the benefit of the doubt, even if I’m not particularly keen on the premise. As for “Dollhouse’s” Friday partner, “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”: Whatever. Decent pilot, but that’s as far as I ever got, though I understand that show has a few fans, although I doubt a move to Friday is going to gain it any.
But damnit, FOX: You’re not going to win over the “geek” crowd by running a “Dollhouse/Sarah Connor Chronicles” Grindhouse promo. That’s just lame, y’all. Lame. I got nothing against Grindhouse cinema — it’s great. But it’s also a product of a different era, and lower budgets. It doesn’t ring particularly true when Sumner Redstone’s fucking network is trying to capitalize on its geek capitol. Brother, please. It’s just embarrassing, and it does a huge disservice to our boy Whedon.

Grrr ... Arggggggggg

Oh shut up, all of you. The only thing they did wrong was not putting in more ass-kicking scenes. That's just wrong. I want VIOLENCE DAMMIT! Ahem...right...I'll go to bed...

No, they also didn't put in any nudity. And forgot that Grindhouse (the movie) BOMBED.
If I didn't know any better, I would swear Fox was run by George Lucas, with all the fandom heartbreak it loves to deal out.
whatever at least they took 5 seconds to promote them, considering it's Fox it's already a big deal.I'm kinda surprised it wasn't something like "yeah people, we know, it's friday, why the fuck do you even bother? go rent a porn"
also the sarah connor chronicles got way way better on the second season, unfortunately not all show starts with a bang like firefly, and I'm afraid dollhouse won't either, but little whedon is better than no whedon at all

I'd have to agree.
Do they have scenes where the Senate discusses rules of order on the next debate on budget appropriations?
Posted by: BarbadoSlim at February 5, 2009 6:15 PM
Yeah, when I saw the promo, I had a brief WTF moment. I thought maybe it demonstrated that Fox actually intends to, you know, help its shows instead of strangling them in their infancy.
RE Terminator: it is far better and more thoughtfully done than it has any right to be, considering. I wouldn't be devastated if it's canceled (and the move to Friday doesn't really bode well), but I've been watching it regularly, and it's worth the hour of time out of your life. I thought the chick Terminator storyline would just be some gimmicky, pseudo-porn thing, but turns out, someone actually gave it some thought.

I thought the promo looked pretty cool. I may have to give it a look this friday.

Fuck. Even if it's great it won't be around long. Friday nights are a death sentence on Fox.
Posted by: The Kilted Yaksman at February 5, 2009 7:31 PM
Friday nights are a tough nut to crack as far as a show trying to get a high sustainable audience share. "Miami Vice," "The Incredible Hulk" and most recently "Friday Night Lights" seem to have solved that problem.

It must be a slow news day if this is the best Dustin has to bitch about.
I may not end up watching either show, but I like the Grindhouse-style commercial.

I'm not sold on the premise of Dollhouse, but I'll give it a shot as a companion to TSCC.

wait...what about all the milfs at a g e le s s .com?
That's so exciting...
or, I've had too much whiskey

I'll be watching these online. I hope that my practice does not reflect the inevitable shoddy ratings of Friday nights, because I've really been digging Terminator, and I'd love to ogle Eliza indefinitely.

That was rare.

Dustin -- whether those shows are great or they suck, you have to start asking the question whether you are actually gay if you don't love that kind of retro-exploitation vibe.
I'm not saying you must be gay, or that's bad or anything. I'm saying at some point the lies all come apart.

Hmm ... might be a reason NewsCorp posted a $6 gigabuck loss ...
Posted by: The Wanderer at February 6, 2009 10:46 AM
I thought the commercial was pretty entertaining. There needs to be more alliteration in Our Modern Age(tm).
And I don't care how well the movies did in the box-office; Death Proof rocked.
