Geronimo! No, You're Right, We Don't Say That Anymore: "Doctor Who" Christmas Special Pictures

Ah, Christmas is in the air. The traditional American signs of the season creep out of their summer hiding holes: the temperature dips below seventy (sometimes until midafternoon!), some mornings a subtle rime coats the palm trees, and hints of the best day of British television begins to leak across the Atlantic on our interweb tubes. We won’t get any more “Doctor Who” until next fall, but for one day at least we get a reprieve. The Christmas Special is coming.

It’s funny, because the term “Christmas Special” is code for those random Christmas shows you watch every year, that may have been good the first five or six times, but has since descended into some hellish exercise in the television mocking your desire to watch it. Specials only tend to be “special” because if you have to watch Charlie Brown set up that pathetic three-needled tree one more time while Linus expounds on the bible, “special” is the kind of doctors you’re going to need after something pops and you wake up covered in blood and tinsel.

But the British do Christmas Specials right. They actually new things, every show putting up its very best for one day. I mean, they don’t have proper football to watch, so I suppose this is the only thing that keeps them sane.

In any case, we’ve got a batch of pictures for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special for this year, “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe”:

Come on. The Premier League doesn't suck that much. It's only the English players that do.

You're watching the wrong Christmas specials mate. I watch The West Wing Christmas special shows every year and they never, ever fail to be delightful.

Do I spy Manny from Black Books? Because - yay! He's obviously going to be evil or die horribly, so I'm just going to enjoy this moment of happiness while it lasts.

1. Ummmm, metal codpieces for Christmas.

2. Can someone please send me the widow's coat?

SyFy has started doing the "special Christmas ep" thing with their original programming as well. Those air tomorrow (FYI Intern Rusty, for tomorrow's 5 Shows After Dark).

Hmm, I find the Doctor Who xmas specials to be lacking. The only one I enjoyed was the first with Ten. I barely remember the others.
