Disney Rides, Marvel Sequels, Sarah Palin, and More Trade News To Exacerbate that Wine Hangover

  • Chris Hemsworth will be back for Thor 2, which is now scheduled for 2013 (it would not make the list of the 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2013, given Marvel’s now spotty track record of one awesome film and three slightly better than mediocre outings). The unfortunate news is that Kenneth Branaugh will not be returning to direct, a “mutual and amicable” decision. That’s too bad; I thought he handled Thor rather well, given what he had to work with. (Deadline)
  • Hey! Did you watch “Camelot” on Starz? No, of course you didn’t. You were too preoccupied with “Game of Thrones.” I never saw “Camelot” myself, but given the period elements, and the fact it was on Starz, I will take a wild guess that Eva Green often found herself without clothes (a Google search quickly confirms). Anyway, “Camelot” will not be coming back. Stars has declined to pick up the series for a second season. (THR)
  • Sarah Palin’s Undefeated will be released on VOD on July 15th (and you can bet your ass, we’ll review it). According to the director, Stephen Bannon, the VOD cut will be more explicit. “I took out all sorts of violence and masked the vulgarity for the theatrical release because I wanted families to be able to see the film,” he said, adding the new cut would feature things like “crucifixions, lynching and suicides.” Sounds like someone is trying to drum up business for a film plenty of people want to read about but few actually want to see. • Here’s a kinda gross new image from Conan the Barbarian, due out in August. (Movieline)

    And another:

  • Drew Barrymore, who made her directorial debut with the seriously underappreciated and under-seen Whip It, looks to be returning to the director’s chair to helm Heist Society, a young-adult thriller about a young woman who hatches a plan to steal back a gangster’s missing art collection in order to save her father, a cat thief who became the prime suspect in the art theft. Shauna Cross, who wrote Whip It, will be adapting the Ally Carter novel. (THR)
  • Disney is prepping The Hill, based on their Matterhorn ride. Jason Dean Hall has been tapped to pen the film, about a group of young adventure-seekers who encounter yetis while on a mysterious mountain expedition. (THR)
  • Stanley Weiser (Wall Street) has been hired to write the biopic of Rod Serling, creator of The Twilight Zone. The man accomplished a lot in life, including “Twilight Zone,” co-writer of Planet of the Apes, hosting a game show, military service, and holding a teaching position at Ithaca College late in life. I’m not sure where the dramatic peaks and lows will surface in the script, but this his Hollywood, so I’m sure they’ll manufacture a few low points for the man. (Deadline)
  • Finally, I leave you with another image of Brave, simply because it’s already jumped to the top of my list for the most anticipated films of 2012. (Collider)

"...a cat thief who became the prime suspect in the art theft..."

So, is he a cat or does he steal cats, and why does this implicate him in an art theft? Are the stolen artworks all Kliban cats?

    Oooh...better yet...

Isn't it time for Disney to give up on the Theme Park inspired movies and just accept that Pirates of the Caribbean was a fluke? The Haunted Mansion, and the Country Bears movies were bombs and this Yeti movie is destined to fail unless the protagonist, while hanging from his boots, telekinetically summons his sword to defeat the monster . Or, alternatively, the hero makes friends with the misunderstood beast and takes him home where hijinks ensue. And yes, I realize these two plots might work even better as pornos, but so would The Hill.

Hey the ultimate Yeti movie has yeti to be made!

    HAW!

Quite looking forward to the Palin flick review.

Disney needs to find a life.

Logan, bastinado is a fitting reward for that pun.

Currently watching Japan dismembering Mexico at Leverkusen. 3-0 at the interval.

It really doesn't matter if a rollercoaster gave them the idea.

Sarah Palin-- is she winking or is she having a stroke ?

Thats too bad about Branaugh not returning for the Thor sequel.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m the biggest Marvel Comics whore there is. But too much of a good thing is not a good thing. Between now and 2013 there will probably be at lest five Marvel Comics movies out, at some point there will be Marvel fatigue. Someone needs to tell Marvel to slow down, the money isn’t going anywhere.

When I was in college I had a Chinese girlfriend, her name was Young ho.

Pookie, forgive me but that made me laugh aloud for several minutes.

Hmm, when you said, "a kinda gross new image", did you really mean, "Jason Momoa is maybe the hottest thing on the effing PLANET?" I'll assume your copy-editor is on a break & that's what you really meant to type.

Marvel always does these things. They get the right person to helm their movie, watch them deliver and then want them back in but cheaper. Did it with Favreau (and I think that's part of the reason Iron Man 2 failed) and now with Brannagh.

As for "Camelot", not surprised. It started off well but, God, did it get boring in a hurry. I didn't even watch the season (now series) finale. I couldn't bring myself to sit on the couch for an hour to watch more simpering nothing about how Arthur is a cad, Guinevere is a slut and her husband is stoic and dumb.

At least Eva Green took her clothes off. That was Epic Medieval Win for everyone involved!

    CONAN HAS CHEST HAIR!!!!

Dammit...Im seeing this movie. I know it will be terrible...but I don't care.

I love me some fuzzy man-chest.

    Sarah Palin, "Undefeated"?

Wouldn't that be like someone making a documentary about Ryan Dunn and calling it, "The Drive To Succeed"?

Oh I'm sorry this might belong in that other thread.

Serling's life story has plenty of low points. His experiences in WW2 scarred him for life; he saw some horrible things. Also, he had to deal with television executives; he saw some insane things. (My rusty memory says that he had a drinking problem as well, but I'm prepared to be totally wrong on that.)

An amazing cat, Rod Serling. With very odd hair.
