Director Gareth Edwards To Go From His Successful 'Godzilla' Reboot To 'Star Wars' Spin-Off

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s this little space trilogy called Star Wars that people seem to like. Yes, TRILOGY. At any rate, J.J. Abrams was tapped by The Mouse to carry on the franchise with a new movie set to drop in 2015. In order to suck the franchise dry, Disney/Lucasfilm will also be releasing spin-off movies in every year that a Star Wars Episode isn’t released.

Gareth Edwards, he of Monsters and Godzilla, will be directing the first spin-off movie to be released in 2016. Edwards is getting his script from Gary Whitta (After Earth) and rumors already abound concerning the subject matter. Yoda? Boba Fett? X-Wing pilots? An ins-depth dissection of the orgy planet of Endor and the sex-addicted fluffballs that inhabit it? Only time and mind-numbing amounts of advertising will tell.

Oh, I almost forgot. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have already greenlit, and hired Edwards to direct, Godzilla 2 and Godzilla 3.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Luke

He is a HUGE star wars nerd (loved my name when I met him after Monsters) so I think this will be awesome!

  • Marvin Shaw

The writers of After Earth? That Will Smith and Will Smith Jr abortion of a movie? To quote Luke Skywalker at the end of Empire; Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • John G.

That Will Smith and Will Smith Jr abortion Scientology of a movie?

  • Lord Inferno

    Ewoks or GTFO.

  • Ryan Ambrose

The man is absurdly talented, Godzilla is essentially brilliant filmmaking marred by a mediocre script, yet he still managed to make an engaging film.

But I still want to see him direct something equally as great and personal as Monsters again, that film is a masterpiece and vastly underrated.

  • space_oddity

Great news for him, but who would hire the writer from After Earth? It wasn't bad just because of Shyamalan.

  • TK

Yeah, I saw that and I thought, "whelp, we're fucked."

  • eag46

I for one would love to see an Ewok orgy on Endor, but I'm a little weird.

  • bastich

Throw in some Wookies and Tauntauns, and I'm there. They could title it "Star Wars: Furries Gone Wild".

  • eag46

As long as Joe Francis stays away from it, that works for me.

  • Andrew J

Oh man from the writers of after earth? This can't come fast enough!?!

  • zeke_the_pig

What's all this talk of sibling-movies to The Empire Strikes Back? Do tell.

  • Cheetahdriver

Yes, after standing in line, at midnight, in the rain, with my long suffering wife at my side on a THURSDAY, when we both had to go to work the following morning just to see THAT MONEYGRABBING MOVIE THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED, when I was old enough to know better, the Star Wars franchise, Disney and anyone associated with it are DEAD, DEAD, DEAD TO ME.

Wow, that sentence started out well, but kind of got away from me....

    HA! Siblings
