Director Gareth Edwards To Go From His Successful 'Godzilla' Reboot To 'Star Wars' Spin-Off
I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s this little space trilogy called Star Wars that people seem to like. Yes, TRILOGY. At any rate, J.J. Abrams was tapped by The Mouse to carry on the franchise with a new movie set to drop in 2015. In order to suck the franchise dry, Disney/Lucasfilm will also be releasing spin-off movies in every year that a Star Wars Episode isn’t released.
Gareth Edwards, he of Monsters and Godzilla, will be directing the first spin-off movie to be released in 2016. Edwards is getting his script from Gary Whitta (After Earth) and rumors already abound concerning the subject matter. Yoda? Boba Fett? X-Wing pilots? An ins-depth dissection of the orgy planet of Endor and the sex-addicted fluffballs that inhabit it? Only time and mind-numbing amounts of advertising will tell.
Oh, I almost forgot. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have already greenlit, and hired Edwards to direct, Godzilla 2 and Godzilla 3.
