Did Mindy Kaling Just Spoil a Steve Carell Cameo on "The Office," Ruin Christmas?

Did Mindy Kaling Just Spoil a Steve Carell Cameo on "The Office," Ruin Christmas?

So, this appeared on Mindy Kaling’s Twitter Timeline (via Popculturology).

Then, after several people on Twitter suggested that the “old friend” might be Steve Carell, that Tweet magically disappeared. Was it meant to be a private message? Did Mindy Kaling not give enough credit to her followers to figure it out? Has a CIA agent drugged her and left her for dead? Or is Mindy Kaling just trying to drum up support for her struggling show by creating some mystery?

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

  • I'd have thought The Office would spoil a Steve Carell cameo on The Office.

  • Did Pajiba just spoil it for us in the title, rather than after the jump? Possibly. Lump of coal for you this year, Rowles.

  • pissant

You guys...so stupid. It was clearly meant to be a private message, but she wasn't betraying a Steve Carell cameo. Let me break it down for y'all: women who are in close proximity to one another for long periods of time often find that their menstrual cycles begin to sync. Generally the non-alpha females conform to the alpha female. Despite writing for and acting on the show, Mindy Kaling was not the alpha female on the set of The Office. When she left The Office her cycle gradually started to drift back to its own preferred pattern. Now she is working on her own show (where she plays an OB/GYN, no less) and she is the alpha female, so all the ladies there are shifting over to her cycle. She recently ran into a former co-worker from The Office and had a little chat. Women love talking about their period so much so that this is all they talk about when they get together with no men around*, ergo she found out that the women on the set of The Office were all menstruating and sent a message of support that was accidentally public instead of private. Upon realizing this, she felt embarrassed and deleted the tweet. QED.

    Occam's razor, FTW.

  • She didn't spoil it, but you did.

  • NoPantsMcLane

Yeah. I don't follow her on Twitter so if not for this headline i would not have been spoiled. Thank you Dustin. You are so, so smart.

So...the point of this post is to just make extra sure that the surprise is ruined for everyone else? Great job, thanks!

Yes, it seems obvious that SC would make a cameo. That doesn't make it better to spoil it! Believe it or not, not everyone follows Mindy Kaling's twitter feed.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

I really should, though. She's adorable. But then I would have to have a Twitter, and remember to check my Twitter, and maybe occasionally tweet and I just don't think I'm up for that kind of committment.

  • Eh. I don't give a shit about this because the Office sucks butt. Carry on.

  • bleujayone

For all we know Mindy might have just have been being asking Jenna if her monthly friend had finally reared its head while on set.

  • Call me oblivious, but I don't see how Steve Carrell stopping by The Office set automatically means a spoiler about the show. He literally could have stopped by to say hi to his former castmates and Mindy found out afterwards. Deleting the tweet is a whole lot more suspicious than letting it stay up.

I also wish The Mindy Project wasn't struggling to find an audience. It's charming. I love it. It's in the same category as Murphy's Law: really well-executed ensemble comedy with dry humor and light slapstick. I hope it at least gets a full season before Fox pulls the plug.

  • Rochelle

I also hope Fox gives The Mindy Project time to find it's voice. I think it has promise, and I love having Mindy on my tv.

  • Artemis

Yes! I love The Mindy Project -- it hasn't fully hit its stride yet, but I get more laugh-out-loud moments from it than any other show I watch. I hope it holds on.

  • TherecanbeonlyoneAdmin

All those questions and you didn't include the most pertinent one? Does anybody still watch The Office?

  • Oh, come on. Everyone dumb enough to not expect a Carrell cameo during the last season of the show is..well...dumb.

Sorry, not up to speed just yet.
