David Hasselhoff Turns to Porn, Set to Ruin a Perfectly Great F/X Show

David Hasselhoff, he of “Baywatch” and “Knight Rider,” is set to join “Sons of Anarchy” this upcoming season. He will play a former porn star turned girl-on-girl skin flick director and will, at the very least, hopefully give Opie a nemesis (assuming his old lady is a participant of the girl-on-girl skin flicks). It will also allow Hasselhoff to engage in some late-career self-parody. But here’s why it’s a terrible idea: Because “Sons of Anarchy” has been built around good writing and great acting. This is not like resurrecting Travolta or Jackie Earle Haley. Hasselhoff was never a good actor to begin with. He’s a joke. And he’s a joke without any discernible talent (except to Germans). I’ll concede that it will be nice to see “SoA” bring back some of the dark humor that Tig had to carry all by himself last season, but Hasshelhoff is not the way to go, and his turn in Piranha 3DD this fall isn’t going to do anything other than remind us how little we should take him seriously. I think he'll be perfect as a slimey porn director. I mean he oozes his own slime. No special effects needed!

Ditto what logan said but I would have used the word "sleazy."

I had sleazy then I changed it. :)

Since we are going by prior acting gigs. Are we talking the same Sons of Anarchy that has Ally Walker (she of the 1000 yard stare) and Peg Bundy? Masterpiece theater it ain't. Hasselhoff might even elevate the thing.

You shut your mouth when you're talking about SOA, Slim!

BarbadoSlim = trollface.

How DARE you!

Great acting? Really? I think I've been getting a different version of that show. I like the idea of having David Hasselhoff on that show.

Fuck it, this could work. Tom Arnold is also terrible at everything and he was awesome as the greasy porn dude in previous seasons.

I love SOA. LOVE IT. My dog's even named Samcro. But what the hell, Sutter? Haven't we been down this role once already with Tom Arnold? Did they kill Tom Arnold's character last year? I don't even remember.

I guess with Luanne's murder and Opie's issues with his porn lady there's still a lot of porn story to go over, though. And Danny Trejo is supposed to guest star this season as well.

speaking on behalf of many many germans: he's a joke here, too.

Hahahaha no amount of butthurt is gonna change the FACT that SoA maybe a competently presented story, that is cast with third tier talent that is no better than the Hoff.

Just accept it people.

F/X shows seem to trend toward self-sabotage after gangbuster early seasons...

Two things Dustin:

1. Tom Arnold as sleazy porn director. Tom Arnold couldn't pull together a decent scene even if you threatened to make him fuck Roseanne again.

2. Stephen King as the cleaner. Thankfully they didn't give King to many lines.

Hoff probably won't be as bad as you think.

Anyone, in the right hands, can be perfect for a part. Its the good actors that can play multiple characters, across a wide spectrum, but even the worst hacks, again, in the right hands, can be perfect in a fantastic part. I firmly believe that the Tommy Wiesue (whatever his last name is, the dude that did "The Room") could work in some film, assuming that the right people were directing him in the right part.

I think that is why actors tend to have arching careers. Once they get big enough, they themselves start thinking they know what they are best at...and end up taking parts that serve their egos rather than their talents.

The porn story is really a side project...so I wouldn't expect to see much of Hasselhoff.

And Slim, before calling out Katey Sagal you should have called out Ron Perlman. Sagal actually won a Golden Globe this year for her performance in the series.
