Damnit. The New "Dexter" Promo Tells Us Nothing

Here’s all we know about season five of “Dexter,” so far: Julia Stiles, Peter Weller, Jonny Lee Miller, and Chris Vance (“Prison Break”) will all appear in the next season. I kind of hope that Weller isn’t the villain — he’s always the villain. I’d prefer to see Jonny Lee Miller in that role. No clue what role Stiles will have, though I’m assuming she’s too young to be much of a new love interest for Dexter.

There was also an image from the upcoming season released:

The assumption, of course, is that it’s Debra’s coffin. But we also know that somehow Debra will have a role in the next season, perhaps as a ghost, like “Dexter’s” father, or maybe the coffin is from a dream sequence and somehow Debra survived. I’d feel a little cheated by that.

If you’re wondering what direction the show will go next season, however, this new promo won’t provide any answers. But it is cool. And it does get us sufficiently excited for the show (and I’m hoping J.K. Barlow will return with recaps).

Rita's dead. Debra's his sister.

*Friendly note: I think you mean Rita, not Debra.

Julia Stiles can play whatever she wants to play. One of my favorite actresses and I secretely love her. Yes. Secretly.

RITA NOT DEBRA GODDAMN

I wish they'd chosen different music. Requiem for a Dream is so overused.

I love Julia Stiles also. I ain't keeping it no secret.

Rita x5. You can see Deb in the picture you posted.

Fingers crossed that we'll be getting the recaps, us Brits wont get to see it till next year.

Hot Damn!

Julie Benz (the deceased Rita) mentioned in some interviews last year that she didn't expect to be popping into Dexter's world much post-death.

I MEANT RITA. JESUS WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!

i'm thinking you don't really watch the show if you made such a simple mistake; dustin, are you just "pretending" to watch dexter so you can be in the cool kids club?

Who said it was cool?

OOOOOH, BURRRRRRRN!

Maybe you subconsciously want Deb to die, Dustin.

I think it MIGHT be a dream sequence though just because Dexter looks a little under-dressed for a funeral. His sleeves are rolled up and his shirt's a bit unbuttoned.

God damn it I have to wait for this season to come out on DVD because I'm fucking poor and can't afford Showtime no more.

God damn it.

Oof. I thought the Requiem for a Dream music was awesome when they used in the Two Towers trailer eight years ago, now it just makes me cringe.

i said it was cool. can't you read? (burn right back at you!)

You confuse names sometimes, man.

I've read a few interviews saying that this season will focus mostly on Dexter being under investigation for Rita's death and also that there won't be one Big Bad, just several smaller ones over the season like the first few seasons had.

Another thing I read (I love my Dexter and have been dying without it, and have therefore been reading every damn article published about it) is that Rita's so-called return is really just her being in the casket and the producers being cheeky with us.

The promo was cool. But I can see it getting irritating really quickly because it's too damn long and they showed it twice during the WEEDS/THE BIG C block. And I don't watch DEXTER so it's kinda lost on me. Yes, I know I should. I watched a couple then kinda lost interest.

When he said "I'm a very neat monster" in the pilot, I knew I was hooked to this show. Nice to go back to the roots of the character, just hope the don't throw away all the personal growth that he's been doing for the last 4 years.

I am both pleased and completely surprised by the Julia Stile's love in this thread. She is usually scorned by most, but I also love her.

When it was announced, the speculation was that she would play a therapist that Dex is required to see, or maybe Rita's cousin or something, come to help out with the kids. Either way, she should be good and the season could be very good. Can't wait.

There was a longer trailer a while ago that does give a good idea of what's going on:
