Finally, News The Doesn’t Make Me Want To Kill / TK

I suppose I should clarify — I’m still highly skeptical of the Tron sequel. I have a bit of a soft spot for the first one… it’s a one of a kind movie, a perfect example of time and place. The acting is decent, the story is pretty intriguing and the effects are wholly unique — both then and now. The director, Joseph Kosinski, has exactly zero films under his belt — though he certainly has the right kind of visual flair, as evidenced by some of the commercial work he’s done.

daft-punk.jpgBut the good news is that it’s being scored by none other than Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, otherwise known as the techno phenomenon Daft Punk. This is outstanding news, and I confess I’ll see it just to hear their music and see how it’s incorporated. In many ways, a movie like this is the perfect vehicle for them, since as we mentioned earlier in the week, most of their videos are animated anyway. Speaking of which:

Two Daft Punk videos in one week!

Now if they can only find a way to have the dude with a dog head make a cameo, TRON 2.0 will officially be the greatest video game movie ever!

That's kind of a backhanded compliment isn't it.

Looking at Kosinski back when he was first announced as Tron 2's director, I didn't know he was the director of some of my favorite spots. I highly recommend the Gears of War/Gears of War 2 spots (Particularly "Rendezvous" and "Mad World") and his Halo 3 Spot (Starry Night). I have great confidence that he can pull this movie off.

(Oh, and they better bring David Warner back in Tron 2. It sucks he wasn't in Tron 2.0 Killer App.)

Finally, News The Doesn't Make Me Want To Kill / TK

Isn't this, like, the 6th sign of the apocalypse or something?

I have no idea why I am up this early, but there ain't nothing wrong with a little Daft Punk in the morning.

Mike R

Gears of War really has some bitchin trailers. That Rendezvous trailer is awesome.

Posted by: twig at March 5, 2009 10:20 AM

..and now, I'm slightly interested in seeing this movie.

As a bonus, now I have Technologic running through my head, which ain't a bad thing at all. Thanks, TK!

IMAX + LSD = :)

Actually, is Tron 2 gonna be in 3-D?

mind = blown

Indeed. A TK that doesn't want to kill is like a Sofia without boobs. It's like a Sarina that doesn't hate pie, a Dustin that doesn't love Ryan Reynolds, a Stacey that doesn't drink boxed wine, or a me that won't fuck anything with a boner and a pulse. Be afraid.

Now Tron's a movie that really could benefit from an update, sequel or, wait for it, REBOOT. Get it? It's a computer joke, and oh, nevermind.

Re, the video. It's nice to know that in the future on a distant planet, musical bands still play drums, guitar and keyboards and dress like Josie and the Pussycats on their way to their jazzercize class.

Twig, agreed! That's my favorite one of the bunch, and anyone (Len Wiseman is attached at this moment) who even THINKS of making a Gears movie should look at that trailer and see the tone, scope, and badassery they must include in the film. (Speaking of Wiseman, anybody want to venture a guess as to who'd do a better job on this one?)

While we're talking about VG movies, I kinda wish that Halo movie went through after all. Only instead of Neil Blomkamp, I wish Danny Boyle reunited with Alex Garland (who wrote the initial script) and made the film. Can you imagine a Danny Boyle Halo movie produced by Peter Jackson?

He did those? Damn, that is awesome. With him and Daft Punk, there may be hope for this thing yet.

That's kind of a backhanded compliment isn't it.

Doesn't mean they won't take it.

Len Wiseman? Len 'Underworld: Evolution" Wiseman? Good lord.

Ridley Scott. I'd love to see Ridley Scott tackle an epic space adventure. He's got the scope and the grandeur down, at least.

Posted by: twig at March 5, 2009 10:55 AM

... and that should be 'sci-fi,' not 'space' adventure. Dur. Must use preview comment button on occasion.

I think that "Mad World" spot may be my favorite ad of all time. As an aside, my 360 hath returned and my virgin copy GOW2 is going to get good and defiled. Yes, that way too.

Posted by: admin at March 5, 2009 11:12 AM

Twig, again agreed. Though, I hope it's "Alien and Black Hawk Down" Ridley, not "American Gangster and Body of Lies" Ridley directing.

Are you are going to play it a lot as well?

No.
