I Dub Thee Unforgiven... With Aliens

Cowboys And Aliens sounds like such a ridiculous, silly, gimmick movie. Adapted from a 2006 graphic novel created by Scott Rosenberg and drawn by Fred Van Lente (who has done some outstanding work in the Marvel Zombies series) and Andrew Foley, it’s the kind of goofy-assed premise (aliens land in the Wild West) that seems better suited to a production by The Asylum than a major motion picture.

But when you look at the talent involved, you gotta think, “hmm…” Directed by Jon Favreau, and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, and Paul Dano? Throw in OIivia Wilde for eye candy, and you’ve got yourself a monster of a picture right there. Assuming that Ford can wake the fuck up and act himself into a performance that you give a shit about (as Dustin once brilliantly said, “Ford has only two speeds: 1) Asleep, and 2) GET OFF MY PLANE), it’s got some serious potential.

Now we’ve got the first poster for the film, and it looks… well, you can clearly see where at least some of its influence is going come from.:

I mean, it’s not just me, right?

I don't know, I'm still on the cowboy's ass. Whoa Nelly, gimme some!

Yeah, but Clint isn't sporting a TITANIC WEDGIE!!!!!

Those aliens must have a twisted sense of humor to come down here and wedgify our frontiersmen. Cheeky bastards.

The cast alone makes it worth seeing. If the buzz on it is decent we'll be there.

I see the similarity. I also see that someone has put a lot of effort into making those chaps look as assless as possible.

I said it on the Box Office prediction post, but I'm calling this one as the sleeper of the summer. I think it's gonna be huge. I'm more excited for it than anything Marvel is putting out there.

OK, good. It wasn't just me that couldn't keep my eyes off the ass cleavage.

Actually, I thought the "obvious influence" was going to be "Iron Man" given that it was at the top of the poster, and the guy has a laser/flashlight/thingy on his arm about the area his penis should be. Cue "Torchwood" joke.

Unforgiven is a such a great film. Mr. Julien and I enjoy watching it of an evening.

More like "unforgiving wedgie"

the blue light thingy on the wrist immediately made me think tron

Posted by: idleprimate at November 16, 2010 10:27 AM

Why, why, WHY can the ladies get no love with the man candy?! We all know that if the lead were a woman that every curve of cleavage and thigh would be brightly lit and lovingly detailed. But a male lead? His ass is hidden in the shadows! SHENANIGANS! Give us a good shot of Daniel Craig's ass.

Posted by: stardust at November 16, 2010 10:30 AM

Is Daniel Craig getting ready to spit on someone's grave?

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at November 16, 2010 11:39 AM

I want to like Daniel Craig so badly. But I can never see past his constant clenched-jaw-pout-face.

Posted by: shanmarie at November 16, 2010 11:43 AM

Also stuck on the ass cleavage.....

Oh, he has a gun and a wrist laser, but let's get back to that ass....

The day suddenly seems a bit brighter.

Actually, I think it's really aping the Iron Man posters (see here http://www.postergeek.com/posters.php?id=9992 and here http://southern4life.blogspot.com/2009/12/new-poster-iron-man-2.html).

If we're talking themes, then can anyone think of another example of space cowboys? On TV, perhaps? Dong ma?

Still don't know, still on the cowboy's ass.

Posted by: schmerpes at November 16, 2010 12:45 PM

Yeah, I'm sorry I can't hear you, I'm distracted by ass.

Daniel Craig sparks an all too common hormonal overload among the lady-bit 'jibans.

Further proof that Jon Favreau is one of the few male filmmakers to acknowledge the female gaze.

After watching Sam Rockwell's performance in "Moon" I'd watch him in Cats and dogs"The revenge of Kitty Galore" part IV!
