If last summer’s The Cove got you itching for a Flipper-centric take on Free Willy shot in 3-D!, then boy, are you picky in luck!
Air Bud director Charles Martin Smith is tackling Dolphin Tale, the story of a dolphin who’s fitted with a prosthetic tail after losing her own in a crab trap. (There will also be a shy pre-teen protagonist added into the mix, just because.) It’s based on a true story, so much so that Winter the dolphin will be playing herself and the film will be shot in my hometown of Clearwater, Fla. (World headquarters of Scientology, what-WHAT!)
Also joining the cast are Ashley Judd (the shy kid’s mom), her Bug co-star Harry Connick Jr. (the marine biologist who helps Winter and will in all likelihood bed said mom), and her High Crimes/Kiss the Girls compadre Morgan Freeman (the grizzled detective on the trail of a brilliant psychopath).
