It was announced today that the next musical to be mounted into an aired live event will be The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Fox has tentatively titled this The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, so yes, it looks like it will be a televised broadcast of a stage show based on a movie based on a stage show. Ow, my brain.

After the atrocious Sound of Music live event and the actually pretty fine but supremely boring Peter Pan, you’re probably not too excited about this, right? Right. The only possible potential glimmer of hope for this is that the team behind it is pretty stellar. Lou Adler, who was executive producer on the original film, is producing; Gail Berman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) is executive producing, and Kenny Ortega (Newsies, Hocus Posus) is directing. And given Berman’s Buffy link, I can at least pretend that my dream choice for Frank-N-Furter is a possibility. No, not Tim Curry. Anthony F*cking Head.
