After years of dreamcasting a rumored-turned-actually confirmed Captain Marvel movie, we finally officially have her. The choice is so perfect, it needs to be shared. As announced at Comic Con, Brie Larson will play the role.

Let’s take a moment for appropriate reactions to settle.

Larson has already struck an incredible balance between heartbreaking prestige indie movies (Short Term 12, Room) and bigger tentpoles. (The upcoming Skull Island should solidify her place as a bona fide movie star even more than her Oscar already has.) Now that she’s taken the mantle of heading the first major female-driven standalone Marvel film, we’re looking at total Hollywood domination.

We’ll just have to take smug solace in knowing we loved her when.

Inside Out screenwriters Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are writing the script. No director has been attached. The movie opens on March 8, 2019.

This is an updated post, originally published last month when Larson was rumored to take the role.
