  • In renewals and cancellations, The Simpsons has been renewed for a 26th season; The Blacklist has been given a full season order; Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been given an order for additional scripts (meaning, it could be picked up for the rest of the season); and Lucky 7 has become the first show of the season to be cancelled. As we reported last week, Sleepy Hollow is the first new show to get a second-season renewal.

  • Roseanne has gone ballistic on Twitter, per Roseanne’s usual self, and accused Chuck Lorre and Ashton Kutcher of stealing one of her jokes on Thursday’s Two and a Half Men episode after Kutcher’s character made a reference to a 91-year-old: “I’d imagine that you’re wet in the places you used to be dry, and dry in the places you used to be wet.” It’s apparently a line that Roseanne has been using for years in reference to menopause. Roseanne responded on Twitter that, “i would steal one of his jokes to make it even but they all suck ass.” After an extended rant, she did eventually back off, saying it was probably one of the show’s writers, and commenting that Lorre was “one of her two most successful interns” on Roseanne (in addition to Joss Whedon).

  • Fox has picked up a pilot for a new teen drama from Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and Diablo Cody (Juno). “Prodigy focuses on a 16-year-old home schooled genius who decides to take a shot at the high school experience before heading to college. It works and then backfires when she takes up with a wild crowd.”

  • Kim Raver and William Devane will return to Fox’s 24: Live Another Day, the 12-episode event scheduled for next spring.

  • Halle Berry is coming to television, starring in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi CBS pilot for Extant. The pilot, which has already received a straight-to-series order, is about “an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.”

  • David Letterman has re-upped for another year, extending his contract through 2015, meaning he will have at least one year head-to-head against Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show.

  • Speaking of Letterman, his production company is developing a musical sitcom about a single-dad/entertainer who takes time off to reconnect with his daughter. The sitcom will star Harry Connick, Jr.

  • NBC and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment are developing a television series based on the Tom Hanks’ film The Money Pit, which features the best laugh in the history of movies. It comes from Justin Spitzer, a former writer on The Office.

  • Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge and Adrian Pasdar are the first actors to sign on to Chris Carter’s (The X-Files new Amazon.com series. “Kennedy will play a professional clown, Pasdar will portray a Beverly Hills businessman, and Hodge will play an escaped convict who claims he is innocent.”

    • Adrian Pasdar! He sure is purdy.

    • Martin Schneider

By the way: No less a personage as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote lines -- I think they went something like this: "When I was young, every part of my body was soft and supple -- except for one. Now I am old, and every part of my body is stiff -- except for one....."

I haven't even clicked on the video and tears are already falling down my face. GAWD, that laugh is glorious!

    • It's fun watching people struggle to remain relevant.

That clip never, ever, ever gets old.

YES! Best New Comedy This Year!

The Money Pit is high on a very specific, go-to list of movies that can make me laugh my ass off no matter what kind of funk I find myself experiencing.

#1 on that list? The Birdcage.

      Pants-shitting chortles. Every. Single. Time.

    • "I KNOW... where the bucket is, you don't have to TELL me... where the bucket is..."

      (I <3 ellipses)

Tom Hanks's reaction when the chimney fall down thru the fireplace just kills me.

The whole movie is like a one-man master class in comedic acting.

    • crackblind

First off, it should be Josh Schwartz (Chuck). Secondly, sounds like Lindsay from Freaks & Geeks, except for the home school stuff. All that said, I'm pulling for it.

    • The Simpsons still have to get renewed, huh? I figured by now it was like setting an alarm clock to remind gravity to work in the morning.

    • But didja see Treehouse of Horrors yesterday? It was actually amazing.

    • Chrispeare

      No. No it wasn't.

    • DEFY ME AT YOUR PERIL

    • Chrispeare

The Dr. Seuss homage/parody was ridiculous. Neither funny or scary. The second one could have been good if it was executed better and the third was just a lame attempt at parodying a movie that no one is old enough to remember.
