The Nic Cage Bad Lieutenant Could Be Worse

But At Least This One is Shorter / Dustin Rowles

Trade News | October 9, 2008 | Comments (12)

So, we’re all aware, by now, that Werner Herzog is remaking Bad Lieutenant, a terrible idea even with Herzog attached made worse by the fact that Nic Cage has been cast in the lead. But, while most of us are complaining as though we actually give a damn about a remake of a movie we didn’t really care about all that much about in the first place (sorry, cinephiles) simply because it means Nic Cage is getting another fucking role, Bill Hader and the guys at Mean Magazine decided to beat Herzog to the punch. The result is this kind of funny video, which I’m showing you because it’s a slow goddamn news day. If you don’t understand the video, that’s OK. You’re not dumb, it’s just that the video sort of flies under your head, instead of over it. I hope your neck didn’t get in the way.

Hat tip to the Spout Blog, which mentioned this video by way of introducing a more interesting video featuring Emma Stone in a bikini.

Also, while I’m stealing from Spout (seriously, it’s a great movie blog), here was there Clip of the Day for yesterday; I guess we know who is going to play the Penguin in the next Batman flick:

Where IS Harvey Keitel these days? Seems like he's kinda disappeared. Can't think of too many movies* that wouldn't be improved by his presence, and God knows there are enough bads ones getting made.

* Does not include "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" unless Harvey is snapping their ugly little necks.

bucdaddy, he's in the new series Life on Mars.

I must be short, because that clip hit me in the face and subsequently caused that face to giggle with glee.

Sorry, this is unrelated but did anyone see the new "Bolt" trailer? Bucdaddy reminded me why I loved it. Bolt says "There's a guard" and the lil' hamster goes "I'll snap his neck!" and rolls off.

Normally I find Bill Hadar ineffectual and mildly irritating on SNL (when I get around to watching it), but this little clip cracked me up. Made me realize what an absurd movie Bad Lieutenant was even with all of its shock scenes.

I have to admit, the Bill Hader bit made me laugh, even if I've never seen nor heard of Bad Lieutenant before this article. I epecially loved the end bit. Bill Hader and Andy Samberg are saving SNL one digital short at a time!

Wasn't Hader on that "Fly High, Duluth" skit?

That shit is classic.

Will Forte was the genius behind Fly High Duluth. SNL has a seriously talented cast right now, but the writing doesn't always do them justice.

What is Fly High Duluth? I have no clue. I looked around for it but there's nothing on Youtube and google is ambiguous. I ought to ask Jay's blog to track it down for me, hehe. Force him to give us more content.

Oh you know how NBC do. No SNL survives on YouTube anymore, but here's a transcript via Yahoo of course.

My brain was going to fall out if they were talking about the one in Georgia, but alas it's still only known for the runaway bride.

"...OH, THUNDERBIRD SPIRIT!!! I see old glory over on the horizon!! I see the tattered standard of an invading army and their numbers ARE LEGION!!! ..."

Man, it's even funnier in transcript.
