reinhold-messner.jpgMother fucking Ben Folds Five is playing a reunion concert on September 18!!!

The trio — made up of Ben Folds, Darren Jesse and Robert Sledge — will play at UNC-Chapel Hill, performing their final album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, in its entirety. Folds recently spoke of this reunion, albeit secretively, saying:

There will be those who shit. I know I will. Very excited….

…I’m not saying I just shit myself, but I might’ve just dropped a little poo. Folds has a new album coming out in a few weeks which I’m very excited for, and then I’ll be seeing him in LA in November, which I’m way excited for (he’s my favorite live performer ever, don’t you know?). But the prospect that there could be a recording of this reunion concert on the ol’ bittorrent in a few weeks (I hope!) or that it could lead to a larger-type reunion?

…Damn it, that’s more poo. I gotta go.

"Mother fucking Ben Folds Five is playing a reunion concert on September 18!!!"

Impossible, Mr. Freilich. Although not yet released to the public, I've got pretty solid evidence that prior to album release, Mr. Folds will be shipped to the Department of Alternative Fuel Development, where his gigantic head will be shaved off and converted to a more economic source of energy.

My sister and I saw Ben Folds in NJ a few years back playing a double headliner with Tori Amos somewhere just off of the freeway at an amphitheater. He played about an hour and a half's worth of music that was the soundtrack to my growing up and then left. I almost cried. When Tori hit the stage we quietly tried to make our exit.

As we walked down the rows of seats to an isle, two girls with dayglo earings, stylishly torn coverals and sporting matching "womyn rock!" t-shirts stopped making out long enough to gush to us, "OHMIGOD! You're going to miss TORI!"

No shit. I still left and did NOT miss Tori at all.

I see what's going on here. Either Skittimus Maximus has devised a new plan to economically cope with the ridiculous number of mini-posts on the New and Improved Pajiba™, or we are seeing the rise of a frightening new technology:

I wonder if any of the current students at my beloved alma mater even remember BF5. Lucky little shits...

I've seen Ben Folds four times and he is hands down the best live performer I've ever seen.

(I'm almost positive I've left this comment on here before, but whatever.) When he was performing the second or third time I saw him, which was at least five or six years ago, all the power went out and he didn't just leave, he stood on top of his piano and sang Rockin' The Suburbs a capella and it fucking rocked.

I also really like it when he throws things at the piano or plays the inside of it with mallets. Ohmygodhesawesome.

I am a student at UNC Chapel Hill and I will definitely be trying to get tickets to this Monday. The buzz around here is incredible. AND, if I do succeed in getting tickets, I'll be sure to let all of you Pajibans know how it goes.

Who are they again? Didn't they sing that Crash Into Me song?

You americans get all the fun. I can't wait for the new album, if the sole single I've heard from it so far is anything to go by, it's going to be fan-fucking-tastic!

He's coming to Austin for the first time in years with this tour. Of course I'll be stuck at home with a 3 week old new born!! Damn babies and their neediness!!

Seen Ben Folds perform 6 times total now. 2 of them were with the Five way back in the day. Cool news - sorry I'm thousands of miles away.

I too have seen Ben Folds four times, and basically worship him.

Coolest thing I saw him do: He stayed on stage long after he was supposed to have left. Eventually a woman from the theater came out and said that if he wasn't off the stage in five minutes they were going to charge him ten thousand dollars. He still played one more song.

If I could get off work to go down to NC, I'd be there in an instant.
