Be Still My Tiny, Black Heart

It’s no coincidence that Inception is being marketed as “James Bond meets The Matrix. Speaking to the BBC at the UK premiere of Inception, Christopher Nolan spoke about the Bond effect:

“The Bond influence on the film was very intentional because, for me, growing up with the Bond films — they’ve always stood for grand-scale action….I’ve loved the Bond films since I was a kid. For me, they’re always about the expansiveness of cinema. The first Bond films set up infinite possibilities about the world they create. I’d love to do a Bond film.”

I know, I know. It’s just a random quote and doesn’t mean anything. But then again, if anyone could get the Bond ball rolling again it just might be Nolan. There’s no doubt in my mind Inception will be huge at the box office and combined with the success of The Dark Knight the director will likely be able to cast his net anywhere he chooses. Regardless of MGM’s financial trouble and reports of Bond being canceled, Nolan could be in just the right position to restart the ball rolling. Just the idea gets my heart pounding erratically.

And hey, while I’m dreaming big I may as well hope for a more charismatic Bond than Daniel Craig. (I’m thinking tall, blond Swede.)

1) if MGM tanks, it'll be weird NOT seeing the MGM/UA logo before the opening scenes of future Bond flicks.

2) with any luck, maybe Clive Owen will finally get his deserved shot.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond. Clive Owen would be super-cool, too, but Craig is great.

I have just as much affection and nostalgia for Bond as Nolan, but honestly I think Nolan is better than Bond. I think he's better than Batman, for that matter. I wouldn't have a problem with his taking a shot at it, though.

ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! whee!

The things that can instantly reduce me to 13 years old are:

1. Christopher Nolan
2. Bond
3. Abs
4. Geeky sci-fi stuff.

We've just hit 3 of 4. WHOOO!!!

esme, I'm pretty sure you would get all four, if you count high-tech gadgets as "Geeky sci-fi stuff".

Christian Bale will be the next Bond. :)

Christopher Nolan should just do everything ever.

If we need to swap someone else in, we'll let him know.

While the idea of a Chris Nolan-helmed Bond flick sends me into spasms of fangirl ecstasy, should the best happen I pray he lets someone else cast the Bond Girl. The last thing I want besmirching my popcorn flick is a mind-numbingly uncharismatic romantic lead...

... though, thinking about it, I suppose that's par for the course for the last five or so Bond movies. What's Famke Janssen up to these days?

Clive Owen as Bond?

Be still my beating heart!!!

Craig IS Bond. Period. I'd really have trouble seeing someone else as Bond now, and I don't think Owen or Bale would work at all.

If Bond dies, it will be a truly sad situation.

Bond will be fine. The Broccolis are a canny bunch. I bet they end up with even more money out of this. It's going to be fine.

Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever. Get any woman and kill any man.

*or woman as the need requires. Didn't mean to exclude anyone in the possible murderin' domain.

There's no problem getting the franchise moving -- it was moving nicely -- its a question of MGM resolving its finances. I loved Casino Royale with Campbell as Director and Craig as Bond -- don't think Nolan could have improved on it in anyway.

Christopher Nolan Would "Love to Do Bond"

Mr. Nolan and I have that in common.

Craig is the best Bond yet. I would rather see Doug Liman take a shot at directing a Bond film though over Nolan.
