A poem:

Jamie Bamber is red hot,

Jamie Bamber is not blue,

Jamie Bamber is sweet,

Oh Jamie Bamber, the things I could do with you!

And now the actual news. I don’t know what’s going on across the pond with “Law & Order: UK” or “Outcasts,” because BAM!ber just signed on to Ronald D. Moore’s science fiction/crime series, “17th Precinct.” Frankly, I don’t care about those other series—I’m about Law & Ordered up to here and what I’ve read about “Outcasts” hasn’t been good. But this news? Let’s just say it makes me tingle. Everywhere.

“17th Precinct” is a procedural crime drama with a twist: Excelsior, the town being policed, is filled with magic and supernatural creatures and the cops will investigate paranormal crime. Bamber will head up the cast as Coalan, a crime scene detective and joining him, as fellow cop Mira, is former Grease girl and “West Wing-er,” Stockard Channing. Pilot director Michael Rymer (“Battlestar Galactica,” Queen of the Damned) says, “There’s a lot of FX work. I’m very excited because it’s going to be a real challenge to figure out how to explain why something is magical and not technological.”

I was already anxious to go on Moore’s next journey, adding BAM!ber to the cast is just sweet, delicious, fluffy icing on the cake. While NBC has only ordered the pilot for “17th Precinct” thus far, I can’t imagine it not getting a series pick-up. Heck, this gives me a glimmer of hope for network television. So say we all?

Stockard Channing? No offense but she's 64. Shouldn't any cop that age be retired or doing desk duty by then?

Paddy are you saying she's too damn old for this shit?

Posted by: Mrcreosote at February 17, 2011 5:16 PM

mmm Bambercrotch.

As you were.

Posted by: meh at February 17, 2011 5:18 PM

Exactly. She's old enough to be Bamber's grandmother and she's still walking the beat with him? I know I sound really ageist, but seriously, 64? Is this set in an age when the GOP has finally succeeded in wiping out all public sector pensions thus forcing our gallant aged cops to work until they drop dead?

Jamie Bamber seems happy to see me.

I love Channing, and I'm desperately hoping that she can smack some acting into Bamber. He's got potential, but he's quite inconsistent.

And Rymer + Moore is fucking gold in my book. The series had its detractors, but I've heard far fewer complaints about the pilot.

Thank you for this. Perfect way to end the work day.

Paddy - Stockard Channing doesn't look 64, so I doubt the character is going to be the same age. Also, did you have qualms about Michael Hogan in BSG or Ltn. Provenza in The Closer? Because those old men kind of kick ass and I've never heard anyone complain about their ages.

Am I the only one who remembers Moore's aborted scifi show on FOX called 'Virtuality'? Man, the pilot was fucking epic.

Posted by: The_wakeful at February 17, 2011 7:11 PM

Yummmmmmmmmmm and YAY!

I'm sorry, I know there were words written after those photos, but I'll be damned if I could comprehend any. So much sexy....

The_wakeful, I like to bring it up whenever I can, so you're not the only one.

I'll give this one a chance, but I'm not very optimistic about it.

I don’t know what’s going on across the pond with “Law & Order: UK” or “Outcasts,”

The news on Outcasts is that it has been deemed a failure and it's been moved from a prime-time slot at 9pm Monday to 10:30pm on a Sunday. A second series is unlikely.

I should really stop trolling the Pajibaverse @ work. Now you've got me all hot and bothered composing epic verse in my head (ok, so my lips are moving some). Usch.

Thank Christ, run away from the Beeb Bamber as fast as you can, cos Outcasts was fucking DREADFUL!

Thank you for your poem and the pics.

Athena:

I never watched BSG, but yes, I did have the same qualms about Provenza, and to an extent for Jerry Orbach's character when he was in L&O (although at least his back story was that he had three ex-wives and a drinking history so it would make sense that he would never have made it past a beat detective and might not be able to retire on 85% of salary if he's paying three alimonies). Note, I really like Stockard Channing and I think she'd make a great senior cop, it's just unrealistic that she would still be a beat detective with all that seniority. And I also don't understand why anyone would not retire when eligible because it's a damn hard life and it beats you up physically and emtionally.

Didn't he die in the pilot of Outcasts? they got a new villain now, sadly it's Eric Mabius... That show is going down fast.
