Do you folks know who Rosa Salazar is? I remember her from Parenthood (and would prefer to forget her from CHIPs), but she’s been in a lot of stuff: The Maze Runner movies, American Horror Story, Man Seeking Woman, etc. Anyway, that’s her in the header photo up above.

Meanwhile, here’s the trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, which comes from director Robert Rodriguez and screenwriter James Cameron. He wrote the original draft and as producer, he is also responsible for Rosa Salazar’s big-ass eyes in the film. Rosa Salazar is the lead, but she’s not immediately recognizable in the film. The movie looks kind of interesting, but also creepy: It’s the “story of one young woman’s journey to discover the truth of who she is and her fight to change the world,” but that young woman, Alita, is also a cyborg discovered on a trash heap with no memory of her former life except her martial arts training. She’s turned into a bounty hunter by a character played by Christoph Waltz.

I mean, I love Mahershala (who is also in this). And I won’t speak to the manga upon which it is based, Yukito Kishiro’s Gunnm, because I know nothing about it, but I don’t mind saying that Alita gives me the heebs, and the whole thing looks very cartoonish, which may or may not be intentional.

Alita: Battle Angel will be released on July 20th, 2018.
