ABC Unveils Their 2013-2014 Primetime Schedule, Pitting "S.H.I.E.L.D." Against (Gulp) "NCIS"

Once you get past the absence of "Happy Endings" on their schedule, and that sucker punch, looking over at ABC's fall schedule, the most striking scheduling addition is "S.H.I.E.L.D." on Tuesday nights at 8, which means that ABC is directly taking on the number one scripted show on television, "NCIS." You know what? I think ABC and the power of Marvel is going to win that showdown, and probably lay to waste every other competitor in that hour. Otherwise, the entire Tuesday night schedule is new, as the "The Goldbergs" and "Trophy Wife" (more on those when the trailers arrive) take on "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project" in what was a bad hour for ABC and NBC last season (all four sitcoms going up against "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project" last season were cancelled). However, with the "SHIELD" lead-in, those two new sitcoms -- regardless of quality -- should fare well.

The "Once Upon a Time" spin-off, "Wonderland" will debut on Thursdays at 8 p.m., an hour that's been rough on ABC in previous seasons ("The Last Resort," "Charlie's Angels") despite the fact that ABC owns the 10:00 hour now with "Scandal." Note also that Rebel Wilson's new sitcom, "Super Fun Night" got the most prized sitcom time slot on network television, right after "Modern Family." That trailer should be along soon, too.

Here's the full schedule. Oh, and glory be! There's only one night of "Dancing with Stars" now, as the results show is being incorporated into the live show.

One quick thing, though: WHERE THE F*** IS "SUBURGATORY"?

"I think ABC and the power of Marvel is going to win that showdown, and

I think that's wishful thinking. I know that Joss Whedon is the Nerd God and all, but if people have to choose between 'NCIS' and 'Like NCIS, But With Occasional Superpowers', my money is on the defending champion.

Since I only watch ABC on Thursdays...

damn. N.C.I.S. is going to cursh this. I was so looking forward to it. I hope they count DVRing.

Interesting scheduling on Tuesday, where an hour long leads into a pair of sitcoms -- usually it's the other way around. But it makes sense as counter programming given that NCIS appeals to the 65-to-dead crowd. However, it may also mean that S.H.E.I.L.D. (man that's hard to type) will have more than the usual DVRing.

I think Suburgatory is going to be a mid season replacement after one of the new sitcoms fail. I'd prefer it that way so there are less breaks in the season

Giving it a thought, ABC putting S.H.I.E.L.D. up against NCIS is a risky, but if it works, a brilliant idea. NCIS has a very high average demo, ABC can appeal to the lower ages, say 18-32, bringing in good ratings, all hopefully many seasons of marvel goodness .

  • I thought that Wonderland was supposed to fill in the gap between the fall and spring halves of OUAT. I'm so confused right now.

  • Awwww, "Mixology" didn't get picked up? DAMMIT!!!

I only care because I worked background on it and actually got quasi-featured, so it would've been some steady work for me this fall instead of my usual precarious existence. It didn't totally suck, but it didn't seem like the funniest show. Oh well...
