Just Rerun “V” and Call It a Fucking Day

v.jpgABC is developing a new project, “The Return,” which comes from Rene Echevarria and Gerg Berlanti. Echevarria has produced and written for several sci-fi shows (“Star Trek: DS9”, “The 4400” and “Dark Angel”) so it should come as no surprise that “The Return” is also a sci-fi show. Specifically, it’s about what happens when some aliens come to Earth for a “how you doing.” Berlanti, meanwhile, is already stretched thin at ABC, as he’s an exec-producer on “Eli Stone,” “Dirty Sexy Money” and “Brothers & Sisters.” I’m not sure what his role on the show means, as I can’t see them trying to go the campy way his other shows go.

But more importantly, I wasn’t kidding around — fuck a new show about aliens. Just gimme some “V” reruns and I’m happy. Remember when Marc Singer’s Mike Donovan is hiding in the vents and sees that Visitor eat a rat? TV sci-fi just don’t get much better than that.

OOh, the rat-eating scene! My young self was terrified. Plus all that Nazi imagery. You're right. bring back V.

When "V" came out I was immediately set upon my fellow geeks for pointing out the rampant Nazi imagery and the political subtexts. The rat-eating scene was Da Bomb, though.

Thinking back, isn't that what Cheney does to young children? Swallow them whole?

V scared the daylights out of me. I was too young. Too impressionable. Modern sci-fi Nazi images are not well received in NYC/NJ. I'd rather have the mob.

The Wanderer:

Cheney is a lizard-alien. It's been well-established that he resides in a pod and only takes human form about once a week.

Paddy,

That explains a lot, actually.

V rules!! My girlfriend and I are waiting for the Final Battle from Netflix. Can't wait till the green baby is born.

Scared the living hell out of me when I was little, though.

I loved V. I had the hardest time reconciling the fact that Freddy Kruger was actually Willy, the gentle, friendly alien.

That V show encourages discrimination against reptiles!
