If you’re looking for more recent theatrical releases, I don’t find that Netflix has a particularly good selection of movies (here’s a list of The Best Most Recent Releases on Netflix (2012-2013 Theatrical Releases), but if you’re interested in better, rather than more recent, selections, Netflix does an all right job of it. In fact, of IMDB’s Top 250 Movies, the streaming service currently has 41 titles available. It’s less than a fifth, but it should provide you with plenty of cinema history to pour through, and might I recommend that you start with two of my favorite all-time movies, Double Indemnity and The Apartment. (And please don’t ask me how Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl made it into the top 250).

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Forrest Gump
3. Once Upon a Time in the West
4. Life Is Beautiful
5. Memento

    Everyone should watch Oldboy already.

  • Uriah_Creep

And of course most of these are not available on Netflix Canada, where good movies are but a rumour.

Also, if you love animals and decide to watch Hachi: A Dog's Tale, make sure to stock up on Kleenex first. You have been warned.

  • Semilitterate

Into The Wild is so totally depressing there is not way I could ever watch it again

  • Jim

Um, the LOTR trilogy is on Norwegian Netflix but you didn't hear it from me.

    "Wanna bet?"

  • zeke_the_pig

Why did Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl made it into the top 250?

  • Daniel Lewis

The first Pirates movie was great. Don't let the following 4 movies sully it.
