A Baby Goose, An Emu and a Bald Eagle Walk into a Bar: A Place Beyond the Pines

I wish I had all the makings of that joke; it would have something to do with Paulie and Christopher chasing three birds through the New Jersey woods. Can you imagine those two idiots bird hunting? Anyway…director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) continues to build the cast for his next film, A Place Beyond the Pines, which he describes as “a film about fathers and guns” and having a similar tone to The Godfather and The Deerhunter. Cianfrance began with one of our favorite non-feathered friends and the star of his last film, Ryan Gosling. Gosling plays a stunt motorcycle rider who turns to bank robbing in order to support his family. But, as you all know, crime doesn’t pay. So next, Cianfrance brought in that long-necked emu, Bradley Cooper to hunt down poor baby goose, who’s just trying to make a living. Now, Cianfrance probably said to himself, “Self, what kind of crime drama can this be without a corrupt cop or two? And which birdlike actor can I get to play a corrupt cop, because a birdman in one hand should be followed by two birdmen cops hiding behind a bush?” (Yeah, really bad…I know.) So check it, he gets the baddest bird of them all to play the most corrupt cop of them all:

Liotta has that bad cop thing down, so even if it’s a bit of typecasting, why not go for the best?

Meanwhile, playing the lady birds are: Eva Mendes as Gosling’s wife and Greta Gerwig as Emu’s woman. No word yet on whether the bald eagle gets a mate.

A Place Beyond the Pines also stars Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and begins filming this July.

I know I must have missed the guy with no cheek bones' big break, but I really don't see what everyone sees in him.

LOVED Animal Kingdom, and Blue Valentine was also top ten material for my favorites of 2010 list. Love most of the actors they cast, and if there's any way I can hit on and/or seduce that baby goose, I'm going full stops.

This is a well thought out article that I have bookmarked for future reference. Have a great day.
