6 Things You Must Know Today to Be an Informed Citizen of the Internet

Oh, Jane Got a Gun. I feel terrible for you and everyone involved with you. After all is re-cast, filmed, and done, you will still be known as that movie with the clusterf*ck of problems. Michael Fassbender left the production by citing filming conflicts, even though that may not be the case. Joel Edgerton moved into Fassbender's abandoned role and Jude Law became the piece's villain. Then director Lynne Ramsay was reported as not showing up to work on the first day of filming by producer Scott Steindorff. Jude Law quit right after that. Then we had Ramsay's silence, Gavin O'Connor's appointment to director, and the rumor that Ramsay actually parted ways with production over the weekend and that Steindorff is just out to get her.

Now Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, and Jeff Bridges are all said to be up for the villainous role left behind by Jude Law. If the rumors are true, I'd say producer Steindorff could pull off the role of the villain with ease. Allegedly. If I were any of these three actors, I would think twice about stepping into a workplace made of bits and pieces of Ramsay's crew and Steindorff's cast and director. (SlashFilm)

Gary Oldman, who turned 55 yesterday, is set to join Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace in the thriller Child 44. Based on the novel of the same name, Hardy plays Leo Demidov, a Stalin-era war hero who believes in the law. Rapace plays the wife that stays by his side when murders begin and he investigates. However, his sleuthing catches the eye of the government and Oldman's character is tasked with following Demidov. Also, this is not the movie with the puppies. (Collider)

Brett Ratner's Hercules already has Dwayne Johnson in the title role, but he has added some real acting muscle as well. Ian McShane, Askel Hennie (Headhunters), John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, and Rebecca Ferguson (The White Queen) will be joining Johnson in the epic tale of the demi-god really strong dude. Reportedly Fiennes will play the king that sets tasks before Hercules; McShane is Amphiarus; Sewell will play Autolycus; Askel Hennie is Tydeus; Hurt will be the leader of Thrace and Ferguson will play his daughter. (Collider)

While promoting her MTV Movie Awards hosting gig, Rebel Wilson told Buzzfeed that she had a meeting for a probable role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. When asked which District, she replied that it was a character in the Capitol. I need to re-read my books, so I'm not sure which character she might be in talks about. Thoughts?

In other book-to-movie news, Kate Winslet has joined the cast of Divergent as the leader of the Erudite faction, Jeanine Matthews. Winslet joins Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior, Theo James as Four, Jai Courtney as Dauntless leader Eric, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Maggie Q as Tori, and Ansel Elgort as Caleb Prior. The first movie of the planned trilogy is set to open March 21, 2014. (Cinema Blend)

The one jackass I did not want to play Four in Divergent is Alex Pettyfer. He and his stupid face will instead be starring in the remake of Endless Love with Gabriella Wilde in the Brooke Shields role. There is a whole lot of "do not want" for me in this news. Blech. (Collider)

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • BlackRabbit

Now I wish to see Tom Hardy talking to his little dog in the jolly Bane voice. "When we go walkies, you will have my permission to wee."

  • Rebel Wilson is going to be in the Hunger Games, eh? Well, that late night talk show joke just writes itself, doesn't it?

  • e jerry powell

Did not care for Endless Love the first time, so WHY? This is worse than remaking Soapdish except times one bajillion, because Soapdish was a worthwhile film.

  • Michelle

I enjoyed Divergent, but all of the casting (minus Winslet, whom I think will actually be a good fit for her character) is really weird to me. I don't get Shailene Woodley as Tris AT ALL.

  • lillie

She has also been cast in the lead role in The Fault in Our Stars. That seems a much better fit for her. She's not who I pictured as Tris who I believe (and it's been awhile since I've read it) is described as plain. Or at least "not pretty"

  • Even Stevens

Oh God they're making a movie out of that too? I'm going to start stockpiling my tissues now

  • alwaysanswerb

Tris is actually the only one I don't really get. Theo James has a lot of different looks, I think, but he can totally pull off Four. And I was definitely fangirling at Winslet, Maggie Q, and Zoe Kravitz.

  • God Of Bal-Sagoth

Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, and Jeff Bridges are all said to be up for the villainous role left behind by Jude Law.

The fuck? In what universe are those four people all up for the same role?

Casting Director: "Well, we've narrowed the hero role down to four people: Nicholas Cage, Jeremy Irons, Donald Glover, or Chloe Grace Moretz."

  • dizzylucy

I heard they also considered Crystal the monkey and Helen Mirren for the role, but they both had scheduling conflicts.

  • babybiceps

Child 44 was an enjoyable read. I believe I've even got to know it through this site.

  • Kballs

Pettyfer has a dungeon somewhere, I just know it. Or at least a barren closet with a deadbolt.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Alex Pettyfer has one of the most bizarrely punchable faces ever. Like, I have never really seen the guy in anything, or heard an interview, but literally every photo I've ever seen of the guy has caused me to think, "That guy needs punching. Lots of punching."

  • Milly

Fong him. Pain, so, so, so much pain.

  • zeke_the_pig

Did this post have a reallyyy old Disqus thread attached to it for a split second or am I just too sober...?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

    Blame sobriety?

  • zeke_the_pig

    I always do

  • Kballs

Yes. Yes it did. These are the moments that make me wonder if I did too much acid in college . . .

  • zeke_the_pig

Well thank fuck for that. Although the answer is almost always 'not enough acid'

  • Robert

Rebel Wilson as the cat lady in the Capital? It's a twisted, darkly comic role.

  • melissa82

I haven't read the book in awhile, but isn't the cat lady very, very old? ...I may have made that up... If only I had some sort of internet search aid to help me figure it out. Oh well, I'll just wait til I get home and open the book.

  • Robert

I got the same impression reading it the first time but it doesn't actually say that. It just says she's unpopular because she's so out of style.

  • melissa82

    I made it up...thanks Google.

  • the_wakeful

That was my first thought (since she's really the only new capitol character to cast), but Rebel Wilson isn't exactly... cat-like.

  • Pinky McLadybits

    Ooooh! That would be amazing!

  • koko temur

Oh, im blanking on this. Is it a lady that hides some of the charcters in her basement?

  • Robert

Was just going to post this.
