  • Only a few days after entering negotiations to play Viper in James Mangold's Wolverine sequel, Jessica Biel is now out, according to Collider. They're now looking for someone else to play the role of a character of Eastern European descent. Here's an idea: Noomi Rapace?

  • On the heels of the casting of Amanda Plummer to play Wiress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Variety is reporting that Sam Claflin has been cast as Finnick, Tony Shalhoub has been cast as Beetee, and that Melissa Leo has been cast in an unspecified role that is not Mags. They join Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch) and Jena Malone (Joanna Mason) in the sequel, which will be directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend).

  • According to THR, Gary Ross, who directed the first Hunger Games but bailed because he didn't want to be time constrained by the schedule for the sequel, may move on to Peter and the Starcatchers , a prequel of sorts of Peter Pan, which would follow "a young Peter who befriends Molly, a shipmate he meets on the Never Land ship headed towards King Zarboff. Molly tells Peter of a mysterious trunk filled with magical starstuff that must remain out of the hands of the pirate Black Stache (who will lose his hand and become Captain Hook). Together Peter and Molly lead an effort to recover the trunk, which takes them on a treacherous journey." Ross has also been linked to A Secret Life of Houdini.

  • Elsewhere, Jeremy Renner -- who most recently replaced Matt Damon in the Bourne series -- is now set to replace Christian Bale in David O. Russell's crime drama American Bullshit. Per Variety, Renner would play an FBI agent who teams up with the world's greatest con man to pull off a sting.

  • Compliments of EW, here's the season two poster for "New Girl."

    • wait wait wait... what is going on with Max Greenfield's face in that poster, am I the only one who sees this??

    • John W

Noomi Rapace is a brilliant idea.

    • Alyson McManus

Dame Helen for Mags if only cuz she could do crazy and old pretty well.

    • AudioSuede

That Variety article says the Hunger Games casting choices are actually frontrunners on the studio's shortlist, not the final casting.

    • laylaness

Jeremy Renner continues to snatch wigs. Excellent.

    • SaBrinaStillHatesDisqus

I bet Renner's familiar with snatch wigs...

      Or something.

    • Irina

As far as I know only Amanda Plummer is oficially cast, neither Johanna, Beetee or Finnick have definite picks yet. As to Claflin, I am still unimpressed, but strip him down and give him a trident and we'll see where we're at.

    • Pentadactyl

"Renner would play an FBI agent who teams up with the world’s greatest con man to pull off a sting."

      White Collar.

    • mairimba

If Melissa Leo is still on for the series, they should wait and have her play Pres. Coin in Mockingjay.

    • Alyson McManus

      +1 this is fantastic.

    • competitivenonfiction

Yes! I didn't know how much I wanted this until you said it.

    • lillie

      YES. Absolutely.

    • BabyBearStrikesAgain

Was coming here to say exactly that!

    • Lemon Spaghetti

Please, please let Melissa Leo be Enobaria. Her majestic, cracked-out bitchface would go GREAT with teeth filed into fangs. If her For Your Consideration Oscar ads are any indication, she has the insane ferocity and willfulness required to be a successful tribute.

    • mairimba

She's to old for Enobaria who should be around 30.

    • athena23

Huh. Not how I pictured Finnick. Am I the only one?

    • PerpetualIntern

I always pictured Finnick as blond. Wasn't he blond?

    • Lipton

Not really, but I'd already resigned myself to being disappointed. My neutral knee-jerk reaction is better than I'd hoped. Their casting has yet to upset/disappoint so I guess I'll just wait and see.

    • mats19

I agree on the finnick, I always imagined Ryan Gosling as a young gooosling... and was hoping for someone of the same manner, that dude has ZERO presence on screen and I saw both movies this year he's been in and it took me until an imdb search to realize he was in them.

    • Maguita NYC

We didn't really approve their choice of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta at first, but it worked out fine...

    • lillie

No you're not because that is not at all how I pictured him either. I don't even know who that kid is.

    • Tinkerville

Is Jenna Malone confirmed for Joanna or just rumored? I don't hate her as much as others round these parts, but I'm just curious.

    • lillie

She seems pretty confirmed since she is listed on the movie's IMDB page as Johanna Mason.

    • mairimba

Just checked the imdb page and they also have someone named Shontae Saldana as Johanna Mason (rumored).

Thanks, man! Now can you do something about my God damn metaphysical Tourettes for Christ's sake?

    • BobbFrapples

*hurp* Oh dear. Those of us in the weak stomach camp should avoid the GIF. Where's my ginger ale? *hurp*

    • PerpetualIntern

      No kidding. Nasty.

    • annie

Is Peter and the Starcatchwrs the same as the Broadway show?

    • hapl0

Only a few days after entering negotiations to play Viper in James Mangold’s Wolverine sequel, Jessica Biel is now out

Goddammit! Just when I thought Biel will be useful for something (destroying franchises) you get my hopes up. If it's Noomi then fine! Sign me up.

But if it's Olga Kurylenko then I'm out. I don't want spend two hours wondering if she's animatronic.

Also, if we're going with East Europe, why the hell can't Milla get this? She can't be doing RE for the rest of her life now, can she?

    • blacksred

my vote is also for Milla. She is used to doing stunts too.

    • TheAggroCraig

Shaloub as Beetee might just be some inspired casting. I hope they also get it right with Mags AKA the best character in the series.

    • That Biel news made me so happy! And then you had to go and use a vomit GIF. Way to bring me back down.

    • Maguita NYC

Noomi Rapace: Oh you are brilliant!!! I would definitely suffer through Hugh Jackman's grunting for Noomi Rapace.

She would make an EXCELLENT VIPER.

And the Catching Fire cast is looking really fierce!

    • I know! I love Beetee and Wiress. I'm thrilled that they got two fantastic actors for those characters!
