I’ve got to hand it to the marketing folks at 20th Century Fox, since for many of us, David Fincher’s Gone Girl had slipped to the back of our minds. The film’s due out in October, and things have been pretty quiet since the first trailer debuted back in April. But those sneaky scamps put out word over the holiday weekend there’d be a new trailer out this Monday, and suddenly, everyone across the interwebosphere was frothing at the mouth. Granted, as any Gillian Flynn reader knows, her books — and particularly this one — are quite addictive…basically impossible to put down. And as unsure as we’ve been about Ben Affleck’s casting in most any role, I’m pretty darned curious to see him take on Nick Dunne. Hey, look at that! By merely putting out the word that there’s a new trailer about to drop, my mind is off and running. But, just to add a little more saliva to our embarrassing droolery, the studio put out these four evidentiary posters:

A wedding photo, lingerie, a weapon and an ominous note…now that’s a nice tease.

There’s still plenty of time to read if you haven’t — in fact, most people I know got through it in a day or so. It’s that un-put-downable. Just do it.

Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck, Pajiba 10 nominee Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris and Scoot McNairy. Featuring a soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the second trailer drops today, and the movie hits theaters October 3rd.

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is resentful of good marketing.
