The CW's 2010/2011 Schedule

Ah, the CW. I know there’s a pockets of folks here on the ‘Jibe that love them some “Supernatural” (which I told a friend of mine just the other day when she confessed that the show had recently become one of her guilty pleasures). And I imagine some others of y’all watch some of the other shows on the little network that keeps trying, but I haven’t watched a second of the network since “Reaper” was taken away from me. Actually, that’s not true. I watched five minutes of the first episode of the “Melrose Place” remake, which was enough to know that it was terrible, and not even in that watchable-by-some-“90210” way. So it’s no surprise that the show has now been canceled.

But the CW has renewed “Smallville,” although it’s confirmed that this upcoming tenth season will absolutely be its last, totally, for realsy this time. “Life Unexpected” has been given a sophomore season, and “One Tree Hill,” the longest running show about which I literally know nothing, will be back for something like its eighth season.

The little network is very excited about its upcoming fifth season — it’s so cute — so let’s see what it’s got.

Mondays. “90210” gets a new home at the 8 p.m. slot, followed by “Gossip Girl” at 9.

Tuesdays. “One Tree Hill” airs at 8 (and apparently this is a new night for this show as well), followed by “Life Unexpected” at 9. Seriously, I don’t know anything about either of these shows.

Wednesdays. Tyra’s forehead and “America’s Next Top Model” air at 8, followed by “Hellcats” at 9. “Hellcats” is a a new drama about a “hip and alt” chick who’s studying pre-law at a college in Memphis. When she loses her scholarship, she has to join the school’s competitive cheerleading squad to stay in school, and thus her adventures with The Hellcats begins. It stars Aly Michalka (dunno who dat is) and Ashley Tisdale (a Disney Channel actress, I believe) and while the show is certainly not for me, I’m not the CW’s demographic, and this show seems like it could work with the network’s target.

Thursdays. “The Vampire Diaries” air at 8, followed by the new “Nikita” at 9. Starring Maggie Q, “Nikita” comes from a bunch of producers including, blurgh, McG, and is a take on La Femme Nikita. Faked execution, trained assassin, Nikita raging against her former bosses, etc.

Fridays. “Smallville” and “Supernatural.”

Saturdays. Syndication.

Sundays. Syndication.

The network also has a new reality show on tap, “Plain Jane.” In the show, Louise Roe, some British fashion expert, will give gals makeovers in helping them get ready for going out on a date with their biggest crushes. Awww, sounds darling.

This season of Supernatural built up this epic battle between Michael and Lucifer all season, and it completely crapped out at the end. Adversely, this season of Smallville built up an epic battle between Clark and Zod all season, and it was the fucking balls.

Smallville will be missed.

My only hope is that they bring a Bruce Wayne character into the last season to satiate my fan-boy needs. It won't happen (for fear of damaging the strong Batman franchise) but a boy can hope.

*sniff* A boy can hope.

Ah, the CW. Where decent shows the first time (90210, Melrose, Nikita) go to be reborn as horrible shuffling monstrosities. If they announce a return of Buffy I'm blowing their satellite out of the sky. Just a warning.

Seriously though, with a gun to my head I couldn't tell you what channel the CW is broadcast on.

for all you ladies out there who enjoy the pretty on Supernatural... you should come on over to the Vampire Diaries... it has better pretty imo and the show is actually pretty decent (I'd started watching mainly to mock it... but its definately not Twilight)

Damian is 10 kinds of yummy...

I couldn't tell you what any of the channels are. That's what the TiVo is for.

I like my pretty a little more dirty and banged up, but I can see the appeal. Sadly, Direct TV doesn't carry the CW where I am, so I cannot introduce my teens to all the angsty shows their friends are watching.

At this point I tivo fast forward through Smallville just to wonder at how severely you can actually beat a dead horse. At least they've had the good sense not to delete Allison Mack off the cast, as she's about the only one with a smidgen of acting talent, and let's face it, cute as a button.

Thank god they're finally ending it all so she can hopefully move on to something substantial.

THEY ARE STEALING MY LIFE FORCE WITH THEIR UNDEAD EYES.

Uhh...hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but (rumor has it) Allison's not returning in the final season. She will be there for a handful of episodes, but not as a regular.

I stopped watching SV when they brought on Lois Lane. It's not that I don't know where it's going, but Erica portrayed her as such a snarky bitch and it just turned me off from her. I don't know which was worse, her or dull-as-dishwater Lana Lang.

I believe they're Sims - from The Sims. And Sim City. And the Simiverse. And so on.

Tammers, I'm with ya. I read the (awful) book so I started watching that show to mock it (and ogle Ian Somerhalder) and it's actually pretty damn decent.

Posted by: Even Stevens at May 20, 2010 3:47 PM

I'm glad Life Unexpected got a second season. It's first season was uneven in pace, plot, & acting but dammit if it secrete enough gold once in awhile that I watched every episode. I think this could be a pretty decent show if they just have Shiri Appleby tone down the wrinkley brow a smidge, and keep the pretty blonde girl that plays the daughter on screen more.

brie Well if true, at least that would free her up for significant work. I mean my god the writing on that show. It's like they pulled a bus up to the local high school drama class and started handing out notepads.

I agree Tammers and Even Stevens, The Vampire Diaries isn't just pretty, it's also really entertaining, with smart dialogue and interesting storylines. Watch the first few episodes and you'll be hooked.

//Adversely, this season of Smallville built up an epic battle between Clark and Zod all season, and it was the fucking balls.//

To be fair, two seasons ago Smallville built up an epic battle between Clark and Doomsday, and they completely crapped out on it. It was awful. This season they had the sense to at least de-power Clark and Zod to show more of a fist-fight.

And yeah, Allison Mack is not coming back as a regular, but will do a few eps for the final season. Here's the article:

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/05/19/allison-mack-smallville/

I'm mixed on the news, personally. On one had, Smallville will suck harder without her. I'm not even pretending it's some great show, I'm just saying...she was one of the good thins on it. On the other, she really should be moving on. As someone else said upthread, she is cute as a button and actually can act. But either way, I still can't believe I've been watching Smallville for almost 10 god damn years. This is my shame.

The ending of Supernatural this season was brilliant! If you say it crapped out you clearly don't understand this (not particularly complex) show. I thought the ending of the season was almost perfect, and carried the themes to their conclusion better than any special effects heavy standup fight could have.

I watch Vampire Diaries too and it's not nearly as good as Supernatural, though it is mildly entertaining on occasions. I didn't like that they killed of Jeremy's Vampire girlfriend though, she was my favourite character.

Posted by: Chugga at May 20, 2010 8:43 PM

I love Smallville, because I am a total sucker for ANYTHING Superman... but I was ready for it to end this season. Actually kind of disappointed they renewed it.

I know when they first started the show, the producers said "No tights, no flights." But come on.... 10 seasons now. Lois Lane. Lois Lane/Clark Kent romance. Daily Planet. Zod. Perry White. Fortress of Solitude. Jimmy Olsen. Metropolis. No high school, no college, hell no SMALLVILLE - all Metropolis. Just make him Superman already. Jesus.

Instead, they're going to drag it out and then finally show him in the suit flying during the finale. Probably the last scene, no less. BFD.

Posted by: Leaf at May 20, 2010 8:59 PM

You're right, Chugga, it definitely is no Supernatural, and it will never come close to Buffy, but I was mostly just surprised that they took a beat to death concept (and one also pretty damn close to Twilight) and made an interesting show.

Posted by: Even Stevens at May 20, 2010 9:19 PM

I think I'm too old to be in their demo, but damn if I don't love me some CW shows. I watch Life Unexpected, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. I've loved Supernatural from the start; the others I didn't expect to like, but certainly do. I'm sure that I'll try out Hellcats too. Don't know about Nikita though - can't imagine anyone but Peta Wilson in that role.

Posted by: Groovy Violet at May 20, 2010 9:45 PM

Yeah, After Reaper and Everybody Hates Chris (seriously, did anybody here watch that masterpiece?) I kinda felt that the CW could go fuck itself in the ear nowadays.

From the looks of it, nothing's changed.

P.S. Allison Mack needs to be in more stuff.

Posted by: Vermillion at May 20, 2010 10:04 PM

If Misha Collins is not returning to Supernatural I'm not gonna watch anymore. (sorry Jensen...)
