So you were all right. As always.

no Generation Kill. Fuck you, Emmys.

ORIGINAL MUSIC AND LYRICS - “81st Annual Academy Awards,” Song: “Hugh Jackman Opening Number”

Was there ANY other music or lyrics on TV anywhere at all? I think that was it, right?

Posted by: BWeaves at September 21, 2009 10:28 AM

Yes! Fuck you, Charlie Sheen.

I tuned into the Emmy's for a minute and saw the award to the Academy Awards for best song, shook my head in disgust, & changed the channel. Reading the list of the rest of the winners, I am glad to see they didn't screw up the rest of the awards as badly. I'm particularly impressed that they got the writing awards right. Those particular episodes of 30 Rock and Mad Men were incredible.

@ BWeaves:

The Colbert Christmas Special, the ESPYs opening number, Flight of the Conchords, A Muppet Christmas and I think SNL were also nominated.

Posted by: Aislinn at September 21, 2009 11:15 AM

Wait...Hugh Jackman was given an award for a performance on...an award show? Is the universe folding in on itself?

Posted by: havalina at September 21, 2009 11:33 AM

Cherry Jones deserved that win.

Posted by: Melody at September 21, 2009 11:33 AM

The Emmys were on last night? I was too busy watching the Giants open up a can of whoop-ass on the Cowgirls to notice.

Kristin Chenoweth one an Emmy, isn't that special.

Posted by: sosumi at September 21, 2009 11:50 AM

er, that would be "won an Emmy". what a 'tard.

Posted by: sosumi at September 21, 2009 11:52 AM

Wow. I wasn't so surprised re the Huge Ackman win, but he/the songwriter beat out Flight Of The Conchords?! Death to the voters!

Posted by: pinkfreud at September 21, 2009 12:19 PM

Stoked on the Daily Show. Everything John Oliver does on that show slays me.

Overall, I find this list meh to okay. So that's a step in the right direction!

BTW, did it feel to anyone else like the Emmys already happened this year? I saw all the ads and I was like, "Wait, do they give these out twice a year?"

Posted by: ChristianH at September 21, 2009 12:34 PM

Oh, Chenoweth, in her shiny, sparkly dress! So pretty! and shiny!

WTF is Generation Kill? I never heard of it before last night.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 21, 2009 12:38 PM

Here's what I need to know: Do people think that bit at the beginning with the actresses holding up glasses and/or Sarah Silverman wearing a moustache was funny? I mean, really - this is considered funny?

Posted by: Cindy at September 21, 2009 1:08 PM

The only thing I'm completely pissed off about is Jon Cryer. Now they're gonna give legitimacy to that piece of shit show. FUCK.

Posted by: figgy at September 21, 2009 1:15 PM

I didn't think "Grey Gardens" (TV version, not kick-ass Maysle version) was all that. Am I alone in this?

Posted by: samantha t at September 21, 2009 2:12 PM

Kristen Chenoweth winning an Emmy makes me cry a tear of joy. It is followed by a tear of pain for Jon Cryer. Not that you're not a cool dude (Duckie always has a place in my heart), but that show sucks hairy sweaty goat balls.

Posted by: Jeni at September 21, 2009 2:54 PM

@ samantha t., I liked it a lot, but it may be partly relief that it didn't shit all over the Maysles doc. I fell in love with that film in a class, and I was scared to death when I heard this version was happening. I thought Barrymore particuarly did a terrific job, without overdoing it.

"Stoked on the Daily Show. Everything John Oliver does on that show slays me."

Do you listen to the Bugle podcast? Hilarious.

Posted by: Daniel Hall at September 21, 2009 7:52 PM

Anna von Beaverplatz, Generation Kill is a kickass, David Simon/Ed Burns miniseries that follows a company of Recon Marines for the first few weeks of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. As you might expect from those two it is funny, fucked up and moving. Dig it.

Posted by: nigeltde at September 22, 2009 12:01 AM

I enjoyed the show and I thank that woman for giving up her kidney.
