An Afternoon Comment Diversion
Well, as much fun as we’ve had here of late following our readers’ musical tastes, it’s time to put the iPods aside for a day and focus, instead, on the second greatest invention of our lifetime: The TiVo. It’s a magical device, one that allows a guy to watch the entire Thursday night lineup on all three networks on a Saturday morning, commercial-free, while recuperating from a hangover. And, best of all, it gives us the power to watch a two-hour “American Idol” episode in somewhere around half an hour (and results shows takes mere seconds to view). That, folks, is beautiful black magic.
Assuming that most of you don’t have as many Season Passes as you do tracks on your iPod, the shuffle game hardly works here. But, I thought it might be fun to learn our readers’ top five season passes, just to get an honest feel for what all of you watch on television. And, just so we don’t exclude those without TiVo’s or DVRs, feel free to give us your top five favorite shows, instead. The only limitation, however, is that it must be a show that currently airs (though, you are free to include television programs on hiatus — where that puts “Deadwood,” I have no idea.) We’ll be sure to pass along the results to Nielson, so that they can continue to ignore our feelings on quality television. And if you don’t watch television at all, well: Good for you. You’re a role model to us all. A guiding light in the sky. A beacon of good taste. Now, move along. We’re not interested in your holier-than-thou television eschewing. Seriously, beat it. Go destroy a TV or something.

Oh, boy, this one I can do (since, for some reason, I don't have an iPod yet).
Currently, it is:
1. The Shield
2. Heroes (in one more week, at least...)
3. NBC's Thursday night comedy block (but if I can only name one show, it's The Office)
4. Lost (yes, dammit, I'm still hooked; but, hey, these last few episodes have been good, right? Right?
5. Deadliest Catch (the crab-fishing guys)

Ugly Betty
The Daily Show/The Colbert Report (I'm cheating by doing that, but I can't just watch one of these shows...you gotta see both)

4. Dexter (Watched all 12 eps at once over a weekend. Creepy nightmares ensued afterward.)
5. Enter daily crappy reality show here
Ouch. When it comes down to it there is really so little decent programming. It hurt to actually pay attention to how hard it was to fill five slots.

Yeah, I don't have Tivo. But if I did...
1) Lost

3) Degrassi: The Next Generation (Want to make something of it?)
4) Jeopardy! (Oh, wow. Someone already put this.)
5) Pardon The Interruption (I never get to watch this anymore. Wilbon and Kornheiser together are comedy gold!)
If I had HBO, then perhaps that would be another story.
Rob (or anyone else, for that matter) -- I ask in complete seriousness and with no intent to denigrate, but could you please explain the appeal of DeGrassi? Because of the Kevin Smith thing, I gave it an honest-to-God shot, but I just didn't get it. It's like "Saved by the Bell," for Canadians, yes? Or am I missing something? Please enlighten.-- DR

Could you please explain the appeal of DeGrassi?
Well, I haven't seen any of the NextGen stuff (Rob and others can enlighten there), but the original Degrassi has a fond place in the hearts of nearly Canadian I know (of my own generation, anyway), no matter what kind of tastes they had growing up or what type of person they are now. I liked it because the characters were real and rich and mostly marvellously ugly and gawky. They were us. Of course, most of us didn't admit they watched it, back in the day--and for a lot of us, the show just seems to be better the older it gets. A lot of people still watch the reruns of the original whenever they're on. It's "good" bad tv, and I would watch a Degrassi episode over a Smith movie any day, but probably for different reasons than Dustin would choose the reverse (if that makes sense).
I caught an ad for NextGen once and it kind of freaked me out to see them grown up...haven't been able to bring myself to rent it. I think Rob's is the first-ever endorsement I've ever seen!
(PS The funniest thing I've seen in years was just this past Halloween when three 30-something guys showed up dressed as Joey, Snake and Wheels from the original 80s series. When "Joey" walked into the room, I stood there thinking, "I know that guy--really well!" until it dawned on me it was only the costume I knew.)

And for the record, Dustin, it's the iPod which is the second greatest invention of our generation - TiVo clearly outranks it, when you look at how much each differs from what came before (the iPod, pre-video at least, was simply a walkman/discman that could hold many albums, but the TiVo does so much more/different than the VCR, it's predecessor).

I do not have TiVo, and thus wait the insufferable period for my favorite shows to come out on DVD so I can Netflix them. That being said, these are what I would watch if I had the technology:
1) Veronica Mars
2) Battlestar Galactica (luckily my parents TiVo this one)
3) Heroes
4) Lost
5) Bones

2. Veronica Mars
3. The Office
4. Lost (season 3 is starting to make up for the suckfest that was season 2)
5. 30 Rock
Entourage gets an honorable mention, but they rerun it so often and make it available On Demand that it doesn't really require the Season Pass.

Grey's Anatomy--I have almost given up on it. It more or less blows these days, but I'm watching to see how it winds up the season.
The Riche$--Awesome. I love this show. I will watch it religiously.
Scrubs--To be fair I only watch the reruns on WGN. But I do love this show. John C. McGinley is a genius.
30 Rock--I've liked the few episodes I've seen, but I only see it on in-flight viewing, and I've never bothered watching it on actual television.
Planet Earth--I decided ten years ago that the Discovery Chanel had, as an entity, jumped the shark. But this series is freaking amazing.

I know I listed 5 already, but I do want to add that I am also totally blown away by Planet Earth (I will buy that on DVD once I have a High-Def TV), and seeing a couple Adult Swim shows on other lists made me remember: I am totally digging 'Tim and Eric's Awesome Show, Great Job!' It is weird as hell, and I love every minute of it.

David - The beauty of cable is they replay these shows all the time. Wnet away for two weeks - still caught up on most of my shows, like the Riches
I'm actually so nuts about some of the stuff i watch and not wanting to miss, I made a lsit of what I would miss while on vactaion, which shows are available on their channels site (Lost, 24) and which I need to be more creative in where I look (Robin Hood)

1. 24. This season is, well, doubleplus ungood, but I've been a loyalist since Minute One of Season One and so I'm going to hang in there this year and hope next year is better. I'm still super pissed they killed Curtis, though; I knew he was going to die this year, but in the first two hours? WTF.
2. House.
3. Gene Simmons Family Jewels. (Dude. It's just so awesome I can't stand it, and I swear that has nothing to do with how fucking hot Nick Simmons is.)
4. Intervention.
5. All L&O's, period.
I wanted to watch Friday Night Lights, but I didn't catch it early enough and for some reason I can't bring myself to start watching this late. And although it's been marathoned a few times, I haven't managed to catch it from the beginning. It's on my to-watch list, and will probably ultimately supplant something on the top five, but for now, I'm sadly out of the loop on that one.
Anyhow.

1 - Bleach
2 - Blood +
3 - Samurai Champloo
4 - Random History International Program(s); ususally Worst Jobs...
5 - Pop-Up Video (reruns on VH1 Classic)
Of course, being me, 4 and 5 are often supplanted by random anime on [as], usually Ghost in the Shell or Full Metal Alchemist.

I don't have TIVO or the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.) I sometimes get annoyed on the internet cause people talk about TIVO like it's a phone or a tv, like everyone has one. I honestly don't know anyone personally who has TIVO. Anyway, this is interesting. I never really think about my favorites on tv cause I really don't watch much of it, but I do have a few shows I will go out of my way for:
1. American Justice
2. Cold Case
3. Intervention

Defending Degrassi...
Yeah, Dustin, I'll give it a shot.
First off, I grew up on the original show. I watched it on Saturday nights on PBS after Doctor Who. It is very much an integral part of my youth, and I couldn't have expressed the reasons for my affection better than Ranylt did above. I cared about those characters, and many of them had surprisingly richly drawn depths. Spike's pregnancy, Wheels' parents' death...those things resonated with me in ways not yet seen in my real world life at the time (fortunately).
Dismissing it as Saved By The Bell for Canadians...well, that's frankly insulting to my precious Degrassi. Saved By The Bell? That slapstick, laughtrack-dependent, "ooo"-ing-when-people-kiss foolishness? Degrassi is filled with real, relatable characters who face real, relatable problems that aren't tied up neatly in a bow every single half hour. Saved By The Bell had a talking robot, for God's sake! If Zach Morris were in the world of Degrassi and attempted his shenanigans, believe me, his comeuppance would be much more than a forgiving chortle from Mr. Belding. As the tagline for the current incarnation of Degrassi says: "Degrassi - it goes there."
It was with great reluctance that I began watching The Next Generation. I assumed it would be modernized and turned into far too much of a soap opera in order to sell to a hipper audience, much like the show that Degrassi inspired - Beverly Hills 90210. What drew me in was the presence of adult characters from my original beloved series. If Joey, Snake, Spike, and Caitlin were still in this universe, then I was interested.
So, I began to watch just within the past year, and I'm still in the process of getting caught up. I was pleasantly surprised to find this new Degrassi is very worthy of its predecessor.
Certainly it bothers me a little that the most common demographic for Degrassi viewers is teenage girls. I do laughingly dismiss it as "Canadian teenage melodrama" and a guilty pleasure when people ask me what the hell I'm watching. I readily admit that there are a few more soap-opera tinges than I would like at times. But Degrassi taps into a very primal, nostalgic time for me. Its characters compel you to care about their hopes, their dreams, and their loves. The show reminds me of a time when those things in my own personal life had an entirely different significance.
If you were to watch the entire series and didn't feel a tug at the heartstrings when Spinner gives Jimmy that hug in last season's finale, then you are a lost soul. Simply put, for what it is, Degrassi works on all cylinders.
I appreciate the defense, Rob. It makes a lot more sense, then. I actually attempted to start with "The Next Generation," and perhaps my unfamiliarity with the original cast made it a little less palatable. Also, my lack of patience. I don't disrespect your fondness at all (and apologies for the "Saved by the Bell" comparison.) -- DR
Posted by: Rob at April 16, 2007 6:37 PM
P.S. In response to Pajiba's original guidelines for posting on this list: my post above was in no way "eschewing" tv or trying to be "holier than thou," just to be clear. It kind of sounded like that when I reread it. I can happily veg out for hours in front of the tv and I know WAY too much about all kinds of shows that I don't even watch. I'm obsessed with tv, I'm just not home that much.

I second what Rob said about Degrassi. Saved by the Bell is the last show that would come to mind when trying to find a comparision. Teen pregnancy and drunk driving dealt with in a serious, complex manner and not solved in one episode, visible severe acne, no laugh track= the polar opposite of Saved by the Bell. I'm an American and I love Saved by the Bell as a nostalgic Saturday morning tradition, but it's nothing like Degrassi, which used to air on PBS in my town when I was in junior high. I was obsessed with it, probably because it was much more "real" than anything else for teenagers then.
So what is TNG all about? I thought it looked too glossy and cheesy, but maybe I'll give it a try. Is it like the kids that were on the original show as parents now, or what?

tlb: re Tivo, it's actually surprising to me how few people have a DVR. Tivo is literally a life-changer in terms of appreciating and watching good shows and avoiding crap. I watch less TV with Tivo, not more, but I only watch what I want, when I want. And no commercials. After six years with my Tivo, I'm still blown away by how cool and affordable it is.
Dara: Awesome that you listed Colbert and not TDS -- I assume TDS is somewhere down your list but below Colbert? I cheated and listed them as one, but what Colbert does is actually far more challenging than being the likeable, snarky Daily Show. I can't say I like TCR more, but I appreciate how much harder it is to stay in character all the time PLUS make it funny and relevant, without the easy, disdainful one-liner to bail him out when needed.
No love for Human Giant?!?!
Posted by: fb at April 16, 2007 7:25 PM
Oh, Corner Gas! I love that show. Too bad our budgets only allow for such short seasons. And yeah, Degrassi is completely divorced from reason. I was a bit young for the first wave, and a bit old for the second one, but it is definitely an institution which defies logic. And you'd be surprised to see how gratifying it is to see teenagers on television who aren't 26-year-old bulimics decked out in Prada. I could imagine kids making a band called 'The Zit Remedy', couldn't you?
Posted by: M at April 16, 2007 7:28 PM
I must admit that I don't have tivo and I have to study most nights from 8 to 11 so I miss most things. This also means that I rarely watch shows that require you to follow the plot line closely through out the season. For example, with Law and Order each episode is largely self-contained...you don't have to know what the characters did last week for it to make sense.
1. Law and Order (any of them)
2. Antiques Roadshow (either)
3. Jeopardy

Give it a chance, though, if you're in the mood for it. Snake and Spike are the only current holdovers, but Joey, Caitlin, and Mr. Raditch were regulars for a while. Wheels made an appearance, too, and I'm sure there are other cameos that I haven't yet seen. (I've mostly watched episodes from the last few seasons.)
Dustin>> No offense taken. Like Degrassi, I was being slightly melodramatic. And I have been known on occasion to enjoy Saved By The Bell. :- )

Hmmm...I did some combining I watch too much TV, honestly.
- NBC Thursday Night Line-up (Earl, Office, Scrubs, & 30 Rock)
- Haunted on Discovery (love the badly re-enacted ghost story)
- Bones
- Daily Show/Colbert Report
- Law and Order: CI (Vincent D'onfrio is HOT and totally my TV boyfriend)
Okay....one more, seriously I'm unemployed I need TV
- What Not to Wear on TLC
Oh and sometimes, Dr. Phil.

This is hard because I've been watching a couple of FXs and since they don't drag them across both sweeps at any given time I'm watching one but not the other. Can I count them as one? I think I will.
1)Lost
2)Nip/Tuck-The Riches
3)Heroes
4)Supernatural
5)Grey's
As you might guess, this takes some serious juggling.
Others that I'm catching up on DVD are BSG Veronica Mars.

no dvr for this kid. but I still love me some television.
The Office. I'll admit this season has been somewhat disappointing. at the beginning of the season I was so high-pitched-squealing excited and now I feel like I've been cheated.
Planet Earth. blows my mind. I hope they rerun this like crazy.
Scrubs.
ER. it's about time Dubenko said something to Neela.

Think of it like a Whopper or any fast food item of your choice. Cheap, processed, bad for you, and impossible to give up for good. Oh how I miss my DVR. . .I may have one again soon and then my TV consumption could change drastically. For now though, here are my top five:
1. The Sopranos
2. America's Next Top Model (I don't actually watch it on TV as it falls during my daughter's bathtime so I watch it days later when it is on the CW site; I just have to keep away from anyone and anything that might reveal who gets the boot)
3. What Not to Wear
4. Seinfeld
5. Wonderpets (one of the Nick Jr. shows my daughter enjoys that I don't mind watching with her; plus those little animals are so darn cute and their classical music inspired songs make it more palatable than those freaky Doodle-somethings on Playhouse Disney. . .THEY need to be executed)

1. The Shield - Here's to the best show on television
2. Always Sunny in Philadelphia - I've said it before and I'll say it again. With the slight but noticeable dropoff from The Office and Scrubs, this is the funniest (and most underrated) show on TV
3. 30 Rock - see above.
4. The Sopranos - I used to bittorrent this until I got busted by HBO. So onto the tivo it goes.
5. Lost - Lost and I have come to an arrangement. I dont ask it questions anymore, and it gives me one hour of yelling-at-the-TV fun a week with characters I've come to love.
Posted by: Matt B at April 16, 2007 11:55 PM

As much as I'd like to pretend I don't watch TV (and I used to be one of those people), I just can't resist it now.
1) Grey's Anatomy (I know, I know...)
2) The Office
3) Dancing With The Stars/The Bachelor (shut up)
4) Jeopardy! (my favorite show. no joke)
5) Tie between Family Guy and the Simpsons
shows I LOVE... but I don't have cable or any pay channels. so I have to settle for watching these when I'm visiting my parents:
1) SOUTH PARK (so maybe I'm a twentysomething female... I still think this is one of the most fun, clever shows on television)
2) What Not To Wear
3) Top Chef/Project Runway/whichever one of Bravo's elimination shows is running that season. Anyone else interested in this "Shear Genius" show? Is it on yet?
4) Aqua Teen Hunger Force or Parental Control (guilty pleasures)
5) It's a tie between Nip/Tuck and Weeds

1. Scrubs
2. Deadwood
3. Heroes
4. The Office (I'd prefer the English version, please)
5. If the scope was broader, I'd say Firefly but as that's not allowed, I'm going to shame myself by saying "The Pussycat Dolls: Search for the Next Doll". Thank goodness someone else has this on their list and we can discuss stripping as a form of female empowerment together.
Otherwise, big ups for Degrassi! "Everybody wants something, they'll never give up!!" Meanwhile, Press Gang was far superior.
Posted by: Ali B at April 17, 2007 1:24 AM
1- Heroes (next week, yay!).
2- Doctor Who (probably this winter).
3- Battlestar Galactica (forever from now).
4- America's Next Top Model.
5- The Girls Next Door.
Degrassi was a close sixth, and would have been higher if I actually got that channel at my curren residence.
Oh, and Mythbusters, but that's on enough that I don't need to tape it or anything.
What's kind of sad is the fact that the only shows I'm currently watching on a regular basis are the ones I'm usually ashamed to admit to.

I try not to watch tv. However, there are 2 tv shows that stand out for me against all others: Freaks and Geeks and Arrested Development. I watched Freaks straight through only once, alone, in my first year of university and was incredibly moved and inspired by the writing, acting, quirkiness et cetera.
AD was playing non-stop in my apartment the last year of university (last year). My roomates and I would watch seasons 1, 2 and 3 on one roomates Apple computer and then start it over again. We were always laughing- it was amazing.
Sorry I'm a jerk for not contributing to the discussion here, but common! Pajiba lovers, I feel like these are the most definitive series for us, especially because they were short-lived.

I am months behind you! And I don't want to know what happens thankyouverymuch. Grrr.
And the Office? Really? That show sucks.

Sunsneezer - Do you read the Death Note manga? Is anime better (tighter, I guess)? Because, seriously, I gave up about vol. 8 cause all they were doing was sitting around, saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. Not like the cool battles of wit between L and Light of the early days, just boring crap, repeated ad infinitum. I literally had vol. 9 for about 2 months and just couldn't summon the will to pick it up and read it.
Posted by: pinkcheese at April 17, 2007 11:09 AM

I'm not sure if I count, since my student lifestyle precludes cable and I therefore download all my TV shows selectively (and am effectively shielded from trying new things, like this Friday Night Lights I keep hearing so much about). But of the things I do put the effort in to see semi-regularly, I guess we have:
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
The Office
America's Next Top Model (yeah, yeah, but campy humour and bitchfights? yes please)
Scrubs (waning)

Also, a billion comments later, I'm still laughing at this:

That way, you don't run the risk of reading a spoiler, and you don't get to run anyone else's life. It's a win-win.

Sign me up for the DeGrassi bandwagon! I never saw the original version, so it's the Next Generation I'm addicted to. Since half the cast graduated last year, it has turned incredibly melodramatic, and I'm not sure I can stand it much longer. Still, it has a strange appeal. I think it's nostalgia ... or I just know how much I would've loved the show if there had been such a thing when I was a teen. I watch it as a gift to the teenager still lurking inside me.
Anyway ...
My Tivo Top 5:
1. Lost (though it doesn't excite me like it used to)
2. The Office (my true favorite)
3. Grey's Anatomy (even though I kinda hate it)
4. Ugly Betty

Weighing in on Degrassi, I am and was a casual watcher of both the original and TNG. Both touch on the "heavy" topics, as many have pointed out here, but I think the new one has lost a little of the realism of the old. The kids are a little less...typical-looking, a little more typical-TV-looking. I kind of prefer the "un-glossed" version.
Brian (if you're still reading) - thanks for the tip re. the original Whose Line on BBC America! Not sure if I get the channel here in Canada but I'll definitely check it out.
Glad I'm not the only Corner Gas fan out there! I can't convince my co-workers that it's an excellent show. Of course, they're all reality TV junkies. Ah well, to each their own...

Wow is this an after-the-fact post, but some times you just got to say, 'what the fuck.' I've worked a third shift job for the past three and a half years, so I never saw Arrested Development or Lost. Recently, I bought and completed watching the first season of Lost. If I had a chance to watch TV, I would choose:
1) Lost (I remember reading about every fan's dissapointment in the second season, something I hope to experience soon)
2) My Name Is Earl (Own on DVD, Jaime Pressley makes the show in my opinion)
3) Veronica Mars (Own season 1 and 2 on DVD)
4) Dexter (Sounds like an interesting concept)
5) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Watched a few episodes on the web, frickin' hilarious)
Actually, Pajiba turned me on to a few shows, including Freaks & Geeks. Thank you. And love live Pajiba.

I'm a late bloomer on this question... In no particular order I guess it'd be:
*Gene Simmons Family Jewels (I have a new appreciation for Gene and Shannon)
*What About Brian? (It's cute)
*Nip/Tuck
*Dirt (I know, I know... BUT I watched two episodes and became addicted)
*The Office
Thursday night television is a hard night to choose from. It's basically the only time I sit in front of the tv for a block of time. I also have an addiction to ANTM- God help me and Dancing With the Stars. (Go Joey Fatone!)
Posted by: Maws at April 21, 2007 11:39 PM
First I must give a big ups to all the Canadians who are still fans of the original Degrassi. I grew up on that shit! I tried to watch an episode of the next generation and couldn't handle it. They just don't keep it as real as the original did.
Anyways here goes with my list
1) Top Chef
2) Hells Kitchen/Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares
3) The Dog Whiperer (I have two dogs and honestly this show helps me everyday of my life with them)
4) It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
5) What Not to Wear (I wish Stacey and Clinton would What Not to Wear in Canada)
Honourable mentions for those that are no longer running but I LOVE the reruns:
Dead Like Me
Arrested Development
Freaks and Geeks
Futerama
Sex in the City (shutup I'm probably going to end up like one of those old vaginas so I mine as well enjoy it)
The X-Files (Admit it, you hav a little sci-fi geek in you too!)
And of course: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Posted by: REW at April 23, 2007 6:21 PM
Ok, so I'm a little late to the game, but here goes (and I'm tossing my hubby's picks because they are good geeky shows like "Mythbusters" and various Food Network shows that I don't love as much as he does):
1. Days of our Lives in Dillion, TX (my pet name for Friday Night Lights)
2. The Office
3. Lost (I refuse to give up- this season is FINALLY starting to get interesting)
4. House (yeah, it's usually the same premise almost every week, but I LOVE Hugh Laurie)
5. Psych (a guilty pleasure)

OOPS- scratch Psych for #5. Put in 30 Rock- otherwise Alec Baldwin might yell at me! Plus, I love Kenneth :)

I'm late. But this looked fun. And hell, I was bored enough to read all the comments, so I'm sure as hell leaving my own at this point.
1- Doctor Who (uh..I have my own Sonic Screwdriver. On my desk. Looking at it right now. Carry it with me everywhere. More than enough said.)
2- Ugly Betty
3- Heroes (it's finally back!)
4- Dexter
5- Boston Legal (Shatner/Spader = OTP!)
Posted by: the hel at April 25, 2007 11:04 PM
Dude... So I have to give you five shows, not shows that I love, but those that are great TV for intelligent beings. I will refrain from pointing cancelled/ended shows. Dunno if you'd like cartoons too, but "Family Guy", "South Park" and "Morel Orel" should be on that list.
Ok, there you go:
- "30 Rock": honestly, the best new comedy out there. By far. Try to get it from the top, it won't be hard at all.
- "House": liking it is kinda subjective, but even the ones who hate it must admit it's scratchy on the brains. And House himself is a fantastic character.
- "The Office": downright histerical, top moments reminding of "Arrested Development"-funny, low moments reminding of "My Name is Earl"-funny (BTW, this one is pretty much gone, except for Jaime Pressly...).
- "Weeds": when it gets back. But it would be better if you watched it from the start. Seasons 1 and 2 are pretty short. Cynical, smart, sordid and very, very cleverly written.
- "Lost": forget everything people say about "the writers fooling us" or "they are the lost ones". Those guys know very well what they're doing, the episodes are filled with extra information for you to catch and, if you take it seriously as a long term commitment, you'll be very well pleased. Only thing is that you HAVE to watch it from day one, so it makes (a little) sense.
Those have been pretty hard to choose - not because I watch a lot of other shows (I do), but because bright TV is out for lunch since a long time now.
If you are already watching any of the above, or have particular issues, or needed to follow a recommendation from day 1, here are two extras just to fit the spot:
- "Nip/Tuck": only if you feel a show should be outrageous as hell, and you'd laugh as it jumps the shark two or three times per episode. It's actually more of a reality show than, say, "ANTopModel".
- "24": this shouldn't be left out, but I couldn't follow the current season. This advice comes from season 1 to 4, the ones I watched. Season 6 seems to be exaggerating a bit, but people I know still love it as passionately as I did in those first seasons.
Everybody's talking about "The Wire", "Dexter", "Veronica Mars" and all the HBO stuff. I bet they're are all fantastic and I'll get to watch them when I can.
One last thing: do NOT waste your precious "only 5 shows" time with "GreySluToMe" (it's outrageously stupid in many ways, girlish, childish softcore with no medicine involved) and "Heroes" (because it's fairly good and addictive, but so badly executed and written that you don't want to bear with the crap they throw at you).
Posted by: Gargumma at April 26, 2007 5:45 AM
Yeah, yeah, I am really late on this one, but I still want to list the shows that I like watching.
Top 5 shows (in no particular order):
1. Any of the History Channel's Monday night line-up (Building an Empire, Digging for the Truth, etc.)
2. Project Runway- but really any Top whatever show. I'm currently watching Shear Genius. Bravo seems to make it work no matter what.
3. Ugly Betty- I really adore this show on so many levels.
4. Any Flavor of Love Catastrophe
5. Nip/Tuck
Some honorable mentions:
Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, 30 Rock, The Office, TDS/Colbert Rreport and Iron Chef- Let me be frank. I pretty much love watching The Food Network, except for Rachel Ray. Also, I could watch the History Channel for an entire lifetime.
Shows that are gone but still kickin'it on DVD:
Arrested Development, Sex and the City, Futurama, and The Office (BBC version)
Also, I really don't watch that much television. I just watch TV at odd times and intervals which allows me to watch a wide variety of programs. I probably should have listed What Not To Wear, as well.
