Will You Still Be Sending Me a Valentine? Sizzling Ladies with Lines

By Cindy Davis | Posted Under Seriously Random Lists | Comments (68)

curtisweaver1.jpg

And now, the other side of the coin

It really does seem harder for women to age under public scrutiny and many of our heroines succumb to over-Botoxification, or that brand of a surgical lift that renders them cousins to the Joker. But there are some famous ladies that realize there is beauty behind the lines and at least one brave actress who has opted to go with the grey. I can’t tell you for certain that none of these actresses has seen the sharp end of a needle, but what’s apparent is that they aren’t afraid to let some wrinkles show. And in my mind, that makes them all the more sexy.

So here are your glorious women, the Top Ten (some well) over 50. Take note, because sooner or later, you’ll be older too.

Note: There are a couple of obvious ladies left of this list because their enhancements are just too obvious/smooth (Sharon Stone, Demi Moore).

10. Judi Dench, 76

What's the story with that header pic? Were Jamie Lee and Sigourney coordinating or were they victims of the dreaded same-dress coincidence?

Sean Young
Joan Jett

Darth it was the premiere of a movie they were in together--assumed coordinated.

DarthCorleone, that was done on purpose to promote whatever movie that was.

From that angle Pfeiffer's nose looks as if it has been tweaked somewhat. I can't imagine why she would do that. I might be wrong but I remember it being more upturned and pointy. Now she's got that generic Jackonesque thing going.

And Judi Dench looks as if she still enjoys a bit of proper anal.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at July 15, 2011 3:50 PM

Should've listed all of their ages as 29. I'm told women stop aging then. At least that's what Jackie Tyler told me.

Posted by: Socrates_Johnson at July 15, 2011 3:53 PM

Sean Young? Really Jay? Dude. She's got the crazy eyes.

I look at this list with varied responses -

a. Jamie Lee Curtis looks more like her mother every day.

b. It's easy to forget just how beautiful Kim Basinger is.

c. DAMN WEAVER! You look awesome.

d. I love how much fun Helen Mirren has with her sex symbol image.

e. Is it too late for Meryl Streep to adopt me?

f. Are these lists really helping? Am I a hypocrit for not minding the male version of this list, but being rankled by the women? Men have a voice at all ages and stages in our culture. Women have been traditionally marginalized as they get older. The Dowager Julien is very interesting on the topic of her increasing invisibility as she becomes more elderly, and I have noticed a certain creeping public transparency for myself as middle age progresses. I am happy that these women have a professional presence after 50, but I'm not sure their ongoing viability as bangable objects is the message I can get behond. The most offensive thing to me about the whole "cougar" mentality (something that was clearly avoided in the article) is the implied gratitude that women should feel for being somehow given permission to remain sexual(read slutty) and be objectified the same way as their younger counterparts.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 15, 2011 3:57 PM

This is an excellent list.

Also: SWINTON

(she's 50 on the dot)

Posted by: Yossarian at July 15, 2011 4:02 PM

I more upset at Jay for missing that then you, Cindy.

Posted by: Yossarian at July 15, 2011 4:03 PM

Get outta here, Swinton's 50?!?

Posted by: snapnhiss at July 15, 2011 4:11 PM

Basinger look AMAZING!

Also, Tilda Swinton can't be included because aliens age differently than humans.

Posted by: Kritty at July 15, 2011 4:12 PM

Helen Mirren must drink baby blood.

Posted by: asdff at July 15, 2011 4:16 PM

Gosh. Helen Mirren. In a bathing suit, for chrissakes. She is ABsolutely LOVELY and so REAL looking. Mr. Stinky has been in love with her for years and I just couldn't quite understand it because I thought of her as "old," but now I see.

She has subtle muscles (the sign of a woman who exercises not too much, but just right), and also the perfect amount of body fat draped over them to make her sensuous. And that skin! What does she slather all over her body to make it so smooth? Dang. I need to get to the gym.

Posted by: Stinky at July 15, 2011 4:25 PM

Lady J,

It's not about objectification and "bangability". This is not a list of "Bro, check out these old ladies I'd have sex with" This is a celebration of women who are bold and vivacious despite being past the typical Hollywood shelf life of 16 - 35.

Yes they have amazing figures and beautiful skin but they are also, to a woman, strong, confident, funny, and intelligent. These are the qualities that make them attractive. (just like the Pajiba 10; there is an IQ prerequisite)

If the alternative is purposefully ignoring their beauty/ sexiness altogether, how is that better? In no way is the tone of this Pajiba admiration fitting with the objectifying "cougar" mentality.

I don't think anyone gave them permission to be sexy- they just took it.

Posted by: Yossarian at July 15, 2011 4:26 PM

Helen Mirren looks better in a bikini at 65 than I do at 34. Sigh. I think I need to pull a Doctor Evil and steal her mojo. Sinister plan commencing in 3, 2, 1...

Posted by: noodlestein at July 15, 2011 4:29 PM

Vanessa Redgrave was perplexingly hot in her limo scene with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible".

Posted by: sars at July 15, 2011 4:31 PM

It's not about objectification and "bangability". This is not a list of "Bro, check out these old ladies I'd have sex with"

Perhaps not.

But yes, yes, I most certainly would.

Posted by: Meander at July 15, 2011 4:35 PM

I tried to be clear in my comments but willingly admit that I may have failed, Yossarian. I said specifically that the article avoided the cougar thing. I was using the list as a launch pad.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 15, 2011 4:35 PM

Women have been traditionally marginalized as they get older.

Time for that to change. These women are doing a fine job of not going anywhere.

If a Streep could turn do producing and make the movies and shows starring these women, we could see a lot more of them, too - I'm very sure Jodie Foster and Drew Barrymore (both producers now)will be doing just that in the years to come.

Posted by: Meander at July 15, 2011 4:38 PM

Judi Dench. She embroiders obscenities on pillows. One of the many reasons I will adore her forever and always.

Posted by: Isaphoebe at July 15, 2011 4:41 PM

Mrs J,

but if a list wasn't posted, wouldn't that be discrimination - since such a list was posted about men? Is there any winning here?

Posted by: Kerminy at July 15, 2011 4:42 PM

I'd throw Heather Locklear on the list too. She has to be about 50 now?

Posted by: Kerminy at July 15, 2011 4:44 PM

Kerminy, you just blew my mind.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 15, 2011 4:45 PM

Top Ten (some well) over 50

Posted by: Jay at July 15, 2011 4:50 PM

@Jay

You took the words out of my mouth re: Lena Olin.

Posted by: John W at July 15, 2011 4:50 PM

Yay Lena Olin. She's awesome.

Posted by: Zirze at July 15, 2011 4:56 PM

I personally found Meryl Streep sexy as fuck in The Devil Wears Prada, surprisingly entertaining movie for a person of my demographic(i.e. a guy).

And Anjelica Huston totally needs to be in that list too.

Posted by: Danny from Puerto Rico at July 15, 2011 4:58 PM

I'd add Charlotte Rampling. She actually distracted from Ludivine Sagnier in Swimming Pool, even when she was literally just sitting there while Ludivine danced in the background.

Posted by: Todd at July 15, 2011 4:59 PM

I APPROVE THIS LIST! Particularly Judi Dench. My crush on that Dame is endless. ENDLESS. I would, however, add Angela Bassett (DAMN is she fine). And Joanna Lumley. And Diana Rigg. And...and...give me some time. I'm sure there are other egregious oversights.

Posted by: ceebee_eebee at July 15, 2011 5:15 PM

Kim Basinger is 57? Holy crap.

But yes, those ladies are lovely. Let's celebrate them, and maybe be a tiny less afraid of hitting 50+ ourselves...

Posted by: MM at July 15, 2011 5:39 PM

Susan Sarandon, ain't nutting wrong wit that!

Posted by: junierizzle at July 15, 2011 5:52 PM

I don't think Helen Mirren---or ANY of these women-- would feel marginalized by their inclusion on this list. They chose a profession in which they had to sell a bit of their souls to the devil, so it's unlikely that they envisioned being cast as a "love interest" well into their 50s or 60s. However, I think it's fascinating (and delightful) that so many people today consider actresses over 50 attractive (especially when some of those "people" are under 40, or even 30). Marilyn Monroe (and Hollywood) considered her "washed up" at 35, but today, at that age, she'd still be considered "hot." This, to me, represents progress.

Women didn't get suffrage in America until 1920, so we have to give the country some time to acclimate itself to the expanding notion of women as people. (Men have been universally in charge, how many thousand years?) Additionally, life expectancy for the average person in the US (which is higher in the UK and several other countries), is now 82 years for the average woman. That means the concept of "middle age" has changed drastically within the past century. And our views about fecundity are evolving as well. If a woman over 45 had given birth to a baby in the 1960s it would have been considered obscene and irresponsible---certainly worthy of major news coverage. Today, it's no big deal.

Beauty is a constantly evolving trope. I have seen no evidence of anyone in these postings thinking of any of these women, in any way other than, beautiful in their own skin. And, yes, as my mother used to always say, "Inner beauty is what counts." Obviously, it's what counts for intelligent, tasteful people.

This list has made me exceedingly happy because so many people agree with me as to who's beautiful --and WHY. I am going to celebrate my rapidly-approaching middle age, as well you should too, Mrs. Julien. I happen to think you are quite beautiful yourself. And, no, I don't need to see you to know this.

Posted by: Stinky at July 15, 2011 6:18 PM

Hells yeah! This list has been approved by me. So now I have a question: are there any above 50 famous ladies who AREN'T white? I'm concerned. What do they do with them? I'm not flipping the race card here, because I sure as hell can't think of any either. But maybe that's because I have been communing with the red wine tonight.

Posted by: Joker at July 15, 2011 6:33 PM

What the fuck?!? No Pam Grier?

I went through a phase as a kid when somehow around the age of twelve, I managed to see a VHS of "Foxy Brown". Good lord, other than Catherine Bach (who was the first woman I "discovered") I have never been so smitten with a crush on a woman. I ended up getting addicted to films in general just because of her beauty, wit, strength, and integrity of her characters.

Fast forward and going to see "Jackie Brown" when it came out. I sneaked into the movie theater at 16 to see it. I was terrified. Would the woman (or at least the character I always imagined her to be) still exist?

Well I fell in love with her all over again. With age she somehow managed to get even more attractive. The raw sexual chemistry between Robert Forster and her in the final scene was just awesome. Her character was the continuation of a smart, tough, righteous badass chick as she always been.

Here is how borderline insane I am for Pam Grier...

I paid to see "Pluto Nash" on opening night because she was in it.

Posted by: Diablo at July 15, 2011 6:41 PM

Shouldn't the women here be, you know, cooking and making themselves presentable for the men who are about to come home from a hard day's work?

It's been fun but hop to it ladies, those sandwiches are NOT going to make themselves!

*chop* *chop*

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at July 15, 2011 7:04 PM

To paraphrase the immortal words of the messengers that hang out on the corner near my office building - Susan Sarandon, yes I would hit that! Not only sexy, but ballsy which, beauty aside, is another thing all of the ladies on this list have in common.

Posted by: RJ at July 15, 2011 7:20 PM

Excellent question, Joker. Angela Bassett readily comes to mind. And, Tina Turner just rocks me. She must be close to 80, and she still has the most amazing legs.

When my Creole mom was a child, she kept scrapbooks of pictures of beautiful "movie stars." She had a special section devoted to black women who "made it," or, as she would say, "passed (for white)." Mind you, I never had any idea why Mom seemed so jealous of Lena Horne or Dorothy Dandridge, until, just a few years ago, we saw my mom's mother's death certificate on Ancestry.com: Her race was listed as Black.

Posted by: Stinky at July 15, 2011 7:29 PM

Lena Olin and Michelle Pfeiffer, rowr ...

And yeah, Angela Bassett, she's still hot as hell.

Posted by: Slash at July 15, 2011 7:39 PM

GLARING OMISSION:

Vanna White, three months older than ,, who as everyone knows is Jurassic by Pajiba standards.

Jamie Leigh Curtis has NATURALLY GREAT HAIR, utterly age appropriate, and you posted a picture of her in a ridiculous wig?

Sheesh.

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at July 16, 2011 1:21 AM

Did you miss the header pic, Maryscott?

Posted by: Cindy at July 16, 2011 1:26 AM

Ya, my comment might have gotten away from me a bit.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 16, 2011 1:12 PM

There was no need for me to scroll up to see that this article was compiled by a woman. I'm not even gonna look--tell me if I'm wrong. Because any red-blooded straight man will tell you that while all of these women look good FOR THEIR AGE, none of them is currently what one could call in scientific terms "boner material."

Posted by: Schwing and a Miss at July 16, 2011 8:23 PM

@Schwing -- as a red-blooded male gathers "seasoning", one might say, he appreciates the whole package, boner-wise.

And the whole point of the article is that it's about attractive women of a certain age who have not had discernible surgery.

Posted by: mograph at July 16, 2011 9:21 PM

Susan Sarandon and Jamie Lee Curtis are my "how I want to age" icons.

Posted by: debbye at July 17, 2011 6:25 AM

It's interesting that Jamie Lee Curtis has aged so gracefully since her mother, Janet Leigh, was so nipped and tucked that she couldn't shut her eyes. Sometimes a good example sitting right in front of you is all you need.

I think what most of these women have in common is not aging gracefully, but the talent and intelligence that they built their careers on and not the looks. I doubt any of them have boob jobs either. It's what separates the actresses from the stars.

Posted by: kirbyjay at July 17, 2011 9:31 AM

I know people have said this isn't supposed to be a list of chicks you would totally bang.

But I would bang the shit out of Dench. More so then even Mirrim.

Posted by: Ben at July 19, 2011 12:22 AM
