Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • KingEntropy

Goddamn does the Dink rock a mean face scar.

  • Mrs. Julien

I'm not a GoT (is that right?) person, but I still get excited about these photos. I am a production design slattern.

Poor Captain Wentworth, he was hot for about five minutes and then it all went south. Is he a member of the House of Windsor? They have that issue, too.

  • kirbyjay

    Is that William Hurt?

  • Guest

    Brienne is utterly perfect.

  • You could have paid the Facebook price and had them yesterday, because that's when they were already live on the GoT fan page.

  • NoDice

Why are the unsullied wearing so many clothes? Whither my sweaty man flesh Game of Thrones?

  • Tinkerville

I'll have you know that Jojen Reed is ALSO the voice of Ferb in Phineas & Ferb. Because I in no way have firsthand knowledge of that because I in no way watch it as an adult.

  • Ballymena Bob

I don't watch it either. I also don't watch Gravity Falls.

  • eeeeee

I really, really appreciate that Mance Rayder is being played by Captain Wentworth. Kudos, Joanna.

Also the Reed girl looks EXACTLY how I pictured her.

  • SorayaS

I seriously thought the Reeds would be in a bunch of makeup to make them look more like swamp people/bog devils/frog eaters.

  • L.O.V.E.

Joanna, you paid the "iron price"? Not for nothing, but you look like you would make a better Yara Grejoy.

  • lowercase_see

So I'm at home watching The West Wing and Jeb Bartlett was just informed that a child died after a mass shooting and right then I saw this picture of Jojen Reed and my squeal of delight could not have been more inappropriate.

  • I am dying over the little details. That rose & thorn belt on the Queen of Thorns? TO DIE. The amazing walls at Dragonstone, the pillars of Riverrun shaped like trout! the gorgeous buckle on Meera!! aah!!

I've been ignoring the long wait for a while now, so I'm very, very happy that it's coming up so soon and I can get excited again. Eeeee!

  • Natallica

Also, Tywin's belt and Sansa's ring. The sets are growing in detail and beauty each season, and I love the fact they decided not to show everything like shiny new, but to make all things look like they have a previous history.

  • John G.

In the books, Tyrion's scar after the Blackwater is so hideous, he is almost without a nose all together. In this image, it looks like maybe a cat scratched him.

  • mats19

would you rather a ghost rider level of CGi on their budget? or something a little easier to portray and not as time consuming on a major actor?... bc personally I prefer the amount of effort put in on the OVERALL look rather then nitpick the nose on him.

  • John G.

you're right. If not CGI, it would be some terrible prosthetic that doesn't allow the actor to make genuine facial expressions. I was just sayin'

  • Eva

Also considered how much self loathing Tyrion had before his scar, even something as minor as what he has on the TV show is going to seriously effect his self esteem.

They could have given him a fake metal nose like what Tycho Brahe (Astronomer 1546-1601) that's glued to his face or have a leather strap go across his face vertically... but it would probably be a bitch a wear and maintain stellar acting. I'm fine with the scar he has.

  • BendinIntheWind

I have nothing to add here, because all I can think now is that Natalie Dormer is just so, so pretty.

  • TheOriginalMRod

Oh Joffrey and Mags those wacky kids.

  • Fredo

I don't know why but I always pictured Thoros of Myr as black. Maybe I'm confusing him with another red priest though.

I can't wait. 10 episodes won't be enough -- even if they are adding 5 mintues to each one.

  • I pictured him being black as well.

  • There's a red priest in Dance With Dragons (I think) who's a Summer Islander and described as being black.

  • Rooks

You know that 'dat ass'-meme? I may or may not have made that face continuously while scrolling down.
Oh Lords and Ladies. These pictures look wonderful (and I don't even care who you killed to get them, Joanna). These people look completely in their roles in their wonderfully detailed clothes.

Sophie Turner is a creature of pure beauty and grace. And Actressing. And beauty and grace.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

I think you've succeeded. Even the Russian judge gave you a 9.

  • BlackRabbit

    Is she wearing a cross?

  • NoDice

it's a dragon fly, she's worn it before. Though it does look like a cross from that angle.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

    No. It's a Westercros.

  • Aaron Schulz

man i want a wacky spinoff sitcom of brienne and jaime lannister, like Laverne and Shirley

  • TheMudshark

That would be most of book 3 if I remember correctly.

  • Mrcreosote

Huh, so I'm going through the pictures, and um I didn't notice any fire breathing flying sauropods with six limbs. What I'm trying to say here is....

  • Khaleesi's Handmaiden

The dragons only have four limbs. Two legs and two wings.

  • PerpetualIntern

    Slow clap for your title.

  • AudioSuede

Really excited to hear Ygritte continue her attempts to pronounce "Jon Snow."

"How are you feeling Jee-onn Sneeuuoh?"

    "Look out, Jiawn Snuhhhh!"

    "It's f***ing freezing, Jyowm Schneuwgh."

  • fracas

The actors playing the Stark kids are going to age way faster than their characters do. The story moves pretty slowly relative to real time.

Are Natalie Dormer and Richard Dormer related?

  • Khaleesi's Handmaiden

GRRM has stated that he doesn't actually mind the older kids, and that if he could do it again, he would age up the children in the books a couple years.

  • It happens. I think we're just gonna have to live with that at this point. The actors are all so good, though, so I don't think I'll mind it that much. Unless Bran grows 5 feet in two years, which...might be a little weird.

  • Anne At Large

    My exact thought process:
    pretty pictures...
I should get off my ass and watch this...

  • John W

Season Three is Coming! Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

  • nixiepoo

Has Sansa been lifting weights? She looks really bulked up!

  • Anne At Large

i think that could partly be due to the fabric choice for that gown

  • JoannaRobinson

    Also, you know, puberty.

  • Scully

The Drowned God has cheated you, sweet one, Sir Jorah has been withheld. Although, Beric Dondarrion might be worth the Iron Price. Might.

  • jM

Also, the Unsullied shields look like they have pointy nipples. Also, also, I'm four.

  • Bert_McGurt

The pointy nipples are antennas. You know, for transmitting data back to Tarth when (Jon) Snowie's in space.

  • lonolove

I would upvote you million times, if only this damned site will let me!

  • BWeaves

I was going to say that. Although, I was going to confess to being seven or eight.

  • ERM

I haven't seen any of the show yet but I've read the books. I think almost everyone cast on the show is too old. Child actors and adults. I mean, Robb is supposed to be 16!

  • John W

I don't know about any of the other characters but the children were purposely "aged up" for the show.

  • ERM

I got into a debate with someone who only had watched the show about whether Sansa was a terrible person. In my mind, Sansa was a 12 year old in the first book/season and her actions were based on her youth, not moral shortcomings. Her actions seem completely different when the person committing them is portrayed as an adult.

  • Kristen Mc

I wouldn't call her a terrible person. She is very naive, and prefers songs/stories to real life, imo.

  • jM

George R.R. Martin has said the ages represented on the show are actually closer to what they should have been in the books. And don't worry, all of the kids nail their roles. Hell, pretty much everyone on the show does.

  • Anne At Large

If I was 15 and having to live by the decisions I was making I would give myself only moderately more credibility than 12-year-old me. But I see what you mean.

  • Anne At Large

    Thank goodness!

  • ERM

I suppose it would have been fucked up to hire child actors, but making them more adult completely change the story and makes me not want to watch the show.

  • Khalessi's Handmaiden

GRRM has actually said that he prefers the aged up version and if he was doing it all over again, he would make the children in the books slightly older

  • gatesong

Yeah, a lot of Daenerys's scenes would have been pretty awkward if she was, what, 14?

  • Dragonchild

Yeah, I guess if you ask ERM, the fact that Dany got married to a creep and boned as a young teenager is so important that aging her up for the show totally ruins it. GRRM, please save me from your fans.

P.S. Just to pre-empt a common retort, don't get me started on that "b-b-b-but that was realistic for the timez!" crap. This story has DRAGONS in it, but child brides are somehow sacrosanct?

  • ERM

No, I actually wouldn't agree with that, but thanks for being an ass.

  • ScienceGeek

Something I learned fairly recently was that the whole child bride concept was pretty scandalous in the 'old days' too. Not illegal, exactly, but... questionable. Shakespeare for instance, apparently wrote places like Verona as a sort of Ye Olde Jersey Shore, and the whole subplot of Juliet's mum trying to marry her off at 14 was supposed to be seen as tacky.

  • UnderTheDark

Um, the one you've got labeled as Bronn is actually "Blackfish" Tully, Catelyn's brother

  • JoannaRobinson

Thanks guys! I was squinting at thumbnails, saw a bow, and guessed incorrectly. All fixed!

  • chad

    That aint Bronn.
