The above serves as explanation as to why I wouldn't piss on an Emmy voter if their fucking guts were on fire.

Posted by: Spender at July 8, 2010 2:49 PM

  • Veronica Mars? Gilmore Girls? Are we saying they are good shows that have been undeservedly overlooked and robbed of some kind of award?

Right, Dustin, because I think that you are great and I dislike disagreeing with you, I'll just claim ignorance and go away... Predators is screening at my local cinema in 30 mins.

Posted by: SB at July 8, 2010 3:03 PM

I was pissed about SoA getting absolutely no recognition but then realized that the Primetime Emmys are just turning into as big of a fucking joke as the Daytime Emmys.

Posted by: Snrub at July 8, 2010 3:04 PM

so, did treme get no nominations? is that cool? i live on the coast and have friends involved in the show so i can't tell if it's really that good or it's just personal.

Posted by: kb at July 8, 2010 3:08 PM

agree with SB. i've never seen "Veronica Mars", but "Gilmore Girls"? Is that a joke?

    BLEH. Hate that show.

Posted by: mex at July 8, 2010 3:10 PM

SB, are you suggesting Veronica Mars is NOT an overlooked show?

    Let's take this outside.

Posted by: Caroline at July 8, 2010 3:10 PM

Hey, I think the Glee nomination is well deserved, if only for the first half of the season. It was the second half that ruined it, and that second half should never have existed.

At least Two and a Half Men didn't get nominated again this year. I think maybe they've finally realized that Charlie Sheen is a fucktard and they don't want that kind of PR. Hypocrites.

Posted by: figgy at July 8, 2010 3:20 PM

    "Homicide" indeed.

Posted by: Kballs at July 8, 2010 3:20 PM

kb, Treme got unfairly shut out too, it's a great show and Khandi Alexander at least should've gotten an acting nom.

Posted by: Snrub at July 8, 2010 3:25 PM

Evidently, David Simon once stole an Emmy voter's girlfriend.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at July 8, 2010 3:33 PM

I mostly agree with Figs, though I'd argue that, while uneven at best, the second half of Glee had some golden moments (Anger Ballet to Total Eclipse of the Heart!!). I know it's de rigeur to hate on Glee around these parts now, but seriously? At least the show isn't YET ANOTHER sitcom featuring shmucktastic-dude-who-hates-his-wife-and-wife-who-is-hot-but-a-total-screaming-harpy. When you turn on Glee, you know you you are watching Glee - it's not interchangeable with every other primetime show. That itself is worth a nom, even if it shouldn't win.

The Glee producers get the benefit of the doubt from me, since they didn't know they were writing Season 1.2 until they already had Season 1.1 in the bag. If Glee blows next season, when they had the time to craft a cohesive arc? Fine, I'll eat my hat. But I think it's a stretch to say that the show everyone talks about the next day doesn't even deserve a nom.

Posted by: Tammy at July 8, 2010 3:36 PM

If Battlestar Galactica had ever gotten a nomination for best drama, THAT would be the crowning travesty.

Posted by: Todd at July 8, 2010 3:55 PM

You're right, Tammy! I think I as so annoyed at the finale that I forgot that the second half of the season really did have some good moments.

I really do think it deserved a nomination, though definitely not a win. I'm sure it will win, considering how much love was showered on it and how no one in Hollywood will admit that it's lost of its charm.

What about Jerry Seinfeld's acting nominations and wins?

Posted by: sars at July 8, 2010 5:05 PM

That list for lack of nominations is mind boggling.

If you were to make a list of the best shows on TV in the last 2o years every one of those shows would make the list.

I'll say it again the Emmy's are a joke.

I'm pretty sure that the Emmy nominations are selected by a computer from IBM called "Deep Turd"

Posted by: danny smooth at July 8, 2010 6:28 PM

Sorry, I disagree with the Family Guy hate. The episodes that were submitted for considerations, especially "I Dream of Jesus," featured some of the best sitcom writing and performances in recent history. I'm sure you're all so very pleased that the backlash for that surprise (deserved) nomination was strong enough to shut both Family Guy and American Dad out of Animated Program. I get not rewarding Family Guy this season, but don't take it out on the always better than the rest of the Fox Sunday line-up American Dad. That's cruel.

Posted by: Robert at July 8, 2010 6:32 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot you hate Family Guy.

I would say "get over it," but your feelings about Family Guy almost mirror my feelings about Glee and Gilmore Girls, so I get where you're coming from.

However, if I could make a suggestion? Take GGs off the snubs list and throw up Kings.

Posted by: ChristianH at July 8, 2010 6:33 PM

The totally unwarranted, irrational and plain goofy hipster hatred for anything MacFarlane is a Pajiba tradition.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at July 8, 2010 6:39 PM

But he just sucks, people. There's no way around it. He sucks. So there.

Also, I don't even know why I bother getting annoyed at the Emmys anymore. They've never gotten it right and they never will. It's like their mission statement.

Posted by: figgy at July 8, 2010 6:49 PM

    Wait..."Family Guy" is a comedy?

Posted by: Case at July 8, 2010 7:04 PM

    Yep, he sucks.

Also, Gilmore Girls had a lot of brilliantly written and delivered dialogues along with a lot of great supporting characters. I don't care much for Alexis Bledels acting talents, but I'm in love with her other... assets.

Posted by: FabMax at July 8, 2010 7:13 PM

How the fuck is Family Guy on this list???
    Fucking Retarded.
Anything to do with 2 and a half men.
Didnt Charlie Sheen get nominated 4 yrs in a row or some shit?
And I saw some Battle star Galactica hate in the comments section???
Dont make me get pissed off at you Pajiba! Stop acting like a Fucktard.

Posted by: supafly at July 8, 2010 8:12 PM

Ah I see you mentioned Charlie Sheen. My Bad.
Didnt The Shield and Michael Chiklis get snuibbed last year?
That was an absolute fucking disgrace.
Best Final Season of a show, maybe ever.
And Chiklis was astounding in the final episodes as Vic Mackey.

Posted by: supafly at July 8, 2010 8:17 PM

I am beyond flabbergasted at the lack of nominations for Sons of Anarchy. What. The. Fuck. Katey Sagal: ROBBED.

Posted by: Az at July 8, 2010 9:04 PM

Friday Night Lights?????? simply awful in any context
Sons of Anarchy???? even worse then FNL
good god, did people actually watch either of those shows?

Posted by: oldhasbeen at July 8, 2010 9:51 PM

....Firefly didn't get nominated? suckage. Then again, anything on Fox that they don't like, won't. after all, take a look at what happened to Dollhouse.

Look, I'm 22, and I love stuff like that. I'm slightly surprised that Gallactica didn't get nominated. my one question is did the original series ever get nominated?

Posted by: LordNinja at July 8, 2010 11:03 PM

I'm slightly surprised that Gallactica didn't get nominated. my one question is did the original series ever get nominated?

It was nominated for a few technical awards (Costume, Art Direction, that kind of thing) and won one Emmy. But seriously, that series was kind of a crapfest.

Posted by: Uriah Creep at July 8, 2010 11:50 PM

BTVS, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and James Marsters were particularly snubbed. Pity for the Emmy's 90% of new writers cite Buffy as one of their biggest influences.

Posted by: Mebe at July 9, 2010 12:19 AM

Figgy and Tammy, I am so with you! Glee has offered up some of the best laughs, cries, and suspenseful moments of the this television season. It's also the first successful primetime musical. That is new and groundbreaking. It changes the accepted format of television, for that Glee deserves the nod.

I am on pins and needles about next season, every cast spoiler I hear makes me fear so much for the show. I want it to be good, so bad.

I literally teared up for a second when I saw that both Chris Colfer and Mike O'Malley got nominated. Sniff, they earned it.

Posted by: Mebe at July 9, 2010 12:29 AM

Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, and Veronica Mars in no way deserved any nominations for an Emmy let alone winning one. The rest of the list is fine.

Posted by: Adam C. at July 9, 2010 2:00 AM

I never gave much of a fuck about the Emmys but I never realized how much of a popularity contest it was before. Clearly shows much have a minimum viewship to be considered. What bullshit.

Posted by: Morgan LaFai at July 9, 2010 2:20 AM

Anyone spewing hate toward Friday Night Lights can go fuck themselves.

Posted by: mebane at July 9, 2010 2:30 AM

Perhaps there should be an Emmys for grownups and another Emmy for those fixed in perpetual adolesence. Because while The Wire, Homicide, and Treme are shows for real adults who read newspapers, have jobs, and can hold a person's interest while discussing an abstract topic, Gilmore Girls, Family Guy, and Buffy are not.

Posted by: Jonzo at July 9, 2010 9:06 AM

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The Kitten Mittens bit was the best thing on television in the aughts.

so, did treme get no nominations? is that cool? i live on the coast and have friends involved in the show so i can't tell if it's really that good or it's just personal.

Posted by: kb at July 8, 2010 3:08 PM

    It got two nominations:
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the pilot
Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics for a song called "This City" by Steve Earle

    It deserved far more.

Posted by: Samuel Erikson at July 9, 2010 7:14 PM

Wow. Adam C. has never seen any of the shows he hates on. That's clear.

Posted by: MC at July 10, 2010 2:31 AM

Buffy wom an emmy for outstanding writing for "Hush" and I think another nominationg for that episode when her mom dies.

Posted by: SarahReznor at July 10, 2010 1:23 PM

    Sorry, just nomination for Hush.

what about the seth macfarlane/gilmore girls conspiracy? those gg reruns are like crack, and i know i have seen seth and alex borstein during some well-timed moments of clarity. i used to love family guy, but now it seems they just lazily depend on gay=funny. oh, crap, does this mean i'm growing as a person?

Posted by: bel at July 10, 2010 2:29 PM
