no love for the chicks? The skirts, the dames, the broads?

Dammit!

I said to myself, "Forbiddendonut, don't watch that David Duchovny Pedigree Dog Adoption Drive commercial. It's just going to make you sad. I think you've seen it before and it made you sad."

Sadly, I ignored my own sound advice and now I am sad and miss my dog.

How does Lance Henriksen's Droid commercials not make this list? The minute I heard it, I thought "Best actor/product pairing ever!"

Posted by: ReZ at November 9, 2010 3:22 PM

Is this in response to THIS bit of news...

I could swear that there's an allergy medicine commercial that has Antonio Banderas voicing it. Anyone know which one I mean?

I think there's a bee flying around in it. B for Banderas maybe?

Posted by: mswas at November 9, 2010 3:26 PM

That's Billy Crudup?! Damn. He sounds so dorky.

Posted by: Melissa at November 9, 2010 3:27 PM

Michael C. Hall does some car commercials as well...I already forget which ones. But if they're serial killer/cancer survivor recommended they must be good.

Posted by: Julie at November 9, 2010 3:28 PM

Yeah, I'd proffer some Allison Janney shilling for Kaiser Permanente. Is that a national ad? Anyway, she's always talking about how I should smile more and walk and eat blueberries and I agree. Because she is The Janney. And she is Wise.

Posted by: coveredinbees at November 9, 2010 3:34 PM

I second Coveredinbees; where's Allison Janney for Kaiser? Living in Oakland, when I hear those commercials on the radio, I like to imagine CJ Cregg moved back to Berkeley and became president of Kaiser's board.

Posted by: Whitney at November 9, 2010 3:38 PM

I think you're thinking of Nasonex, mswas. That is Antonio Banderas as the Bee.

Krasinski also does some cruise line ads, I believe. I could listen to his voice all day.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at November 9, 2010 3:42 PM

mswas,

Nasonex.

Posted by: Rykker at November 9, 2010 3:42 PM

Gene Hackman for Lowes?

Posted by: dammitjanet at November 9, 2010 3:48 PM

i never saw the last 2.

Mafer

Posted by: Mafer Bv cures at November 9, 2010 3:55 PM

I second dammitjanet's Gene Hackman for Lowes.

I'd also add Morgan Freeman doing Visa voiceovers. That's God's voice!

Posted by: Fredo at November 9, 2010 3:56 PM

OMG has that been Billy Crudup this whole time!?!

I'm gonna tell everyone I know.

Posted by: grace b at November 9, 2010 3:57 PM

Donald Sutherland for Volvo.

Posted by: PaddyDog at November 9, 2010 3:58 PM

Keifer Sutherland and Jeff Bridges have the best commercial voices imo.

Posted by: Lala at November 9, 2010 4:04 PM

I can't BELIEVE you forgot Sam Elliott doing ads for Dodge. I AM OFFENDED THAT YOU FORGOT SAM ELLIOTT.

OK not really, but those ads? They, well, make me all tingly.

MUSTACHE RIDES YES.

Oh god I can't believe I said that. Sorry. I'm tired.

Posted by: figgy at November 9, 2010 4:04 PM

Two more things:

HAAAAAAAAAAAM! His voice makes me all tingly for ridiculous cars. Such is his power.

Gene Hackman does Lowe's?! I had no idea.

Posted by: figgy at November 9, 2010 4:07 PM

Since the invention of the DVR I have not watched a commercial. What are these voiceovers of which you speak?

Posted by: ed newman at November 9, 2010 4:16 PM

Miley Cyrus for Dos Equis?

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 9, 2010 4:18 PM

That Pedigree spot gets me every goddam time. Sniff...

Posted by: Slash at November 9, 2010 4:23 PM

Remember that time we gave them MORE FUCKING MONEY?
Monkeypussy.

Wow, she's got herself wrapped around him like nothing else in that photo, huh? Is this to remind us stay away from her man's meat, or is it to remind us that she exists? Both, probably. What has she done since that asinine 'A lesbian is just a straight girl who hasn't found the right man yet' film? I mean, other than giving her face the Leatherface treatment?

You're welcome.

Posted by: Jo 'Mama' Besser at November 9, 2010 4:58 PM

I third the Gene Hackman for Lowe's...and also: Donald Sutherland for Florda's Natural orange juice.

Posted by: Sara Tonin at November 9, 2010 5:07 PM

And for the black people I would like to nominate Regina King for Always - Have a Happy Period!

Posted by: blacksred at November 9, 2010 5:14 PM

No mention of the Kelsey Grammer Hyundai commercials? I find he has an incredibly recognizable voice, and I'm generally pretty bad at identifying celebrity voices (Mr. meaux, though relatively pop culture illiterate, is much better at it than I).

Posted by: meaux at November 9, 2010 5:16 PM

I'm chastising you for leaving out Allison Janney and Kaiser. I may think Kaiser is the devil, but I always watch/listen to her commercials.

And if you live in Sonoma County, you can hear George Segal doing the radio ads for a local bistro. Which is pretty great.

Posted by: Jeni at November 9, 2010 5:25 PM

Denis Leary's Ford commercials.

Posted by: Paultera at November 9, 2010 5:33 PM

I had no idea that was Billy Crudup.

Okay, so I know that dog commercial by heart b/c I remember crying the first time I saw it and turning the channel any time it came on after that. I had NO IDEA that was David D narrating it. God that is one heartbreaking fucking commercial. And I had to watch it again b/c I didn't realize it was THAT commercial so I played it to hear David. Damn you, Pajiba.

Posted by: Katie at November 9, 2010 6:15 PM

Allison Janney just wants the best for you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEjgrWzssvM&feature=related

Posted by: coveredinbees at November 9, 2010 6:34 PM

Whoa whoa whoa.

James Earl Jones, motherfucker, for ... whatever. Otherwise, I couldn't tell any of these people apart from commercial or animation work.

Posted by: , at November 9, 2010 6:36 PM

Jo "Mama,"

I like you n at, but there are times when I just have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

And why do I have to keep signing in when I keep clicking the fucking box that says "Remember personal info"?

Fix that, and fix it NOW, motherfucker, because it's fucking annoying.

Posted by: , at November 9, 2010 6:39 PM

You need not furrow your brow, save that energy for the upcoming ZOMBIE ATTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCKKKKK!!!

Posted by: Jo 'Mama' Besser at November 9, 2010 6:54 PM

No Michael C Hall commercials for Chrysler?

Posted by: reaperslogic at November 9, 2010 7:05 PM

Have to disagree with Jon Hamm.
Pajiba may find him delicious, but he's got a generic voice and cadence. Certainly not as Distinctive as some of the others mentioned on the list or in the comments.

Posted by: Scott at November 9, 2010 7:41 PM

Second Paultera's call on Leary.
Would also say Penn for all the Comedy Central stuff.

And who can forget Sally Kellerman for Hidden Valley Ranch and a bunch of other stuff?

Posted by: Eep at November 9, 2010 7:55 PM

Also how about Mike fucking Rowe?

Posted by: Eep at November 9, 2010 7:56 PM

And for the black people I would like to nominate Regina King for Always - Have a Happy Period!

Posted by: blacksred at November 9, 2010 5:14 PM

I did not know that. I should have recognized her voice. I watch Friday whenever it is on. And I just got finished watching the Boondocks DVDs.

Posted by: greer at November 9, 2010 7:57 PM

Michael C Hall's car commercials are fucking awesome.

Posted by: sailboat at November 9, 2010 8:20 PM

RDJ has been doing a car commercial - Nissan I think. That one always jumps out at me. Just sitting there watching regular old TV commercials and then suddenly my undies start to melt.

Posted by: homeslice at November 9, 2010 9:31 PM

I have two super-powers: I can always get a parking space right by the door. Without driving around like an American.

And I can name that voice-over in two syllables.

Can't win the fucking lotto, though.

Posted by: Shonda at November 10, 2010 1:14 AM

Whither Stanley Tucci? He was the voice of AT&T for like two years.

Posted by: Ginger at November 10, 2010 2:06 AM

DANG IT, PAJIBA!!

I came here to have my mind blown by the fact that Billy Crudup is the voice of Mastercard, not to burst into tears because those dogs don't know how they ended up in the shelter, but know that they're good dogs.

Stupid, moving, heart-wrenching commercial.

Excuse me. I must go and hug my dog. I bid you "good day."

Posted by: Jelinas at November 10, 2010 2:35 AM

I also had no idea that that was Billy Crudup's voiceover. WHAT THE FUCK? I'm usually good at recognizing voices.

Jo 'Mama' Besser,
I didn't even know she existed until that stupid Gap ad came out.

Posted by: Uda at November 10, 2010 5:39 AM

I'm confused as to why you would pay what I assume is top dollar for someone like George Clooney to voiceover your commercial and not show him or associate him in any direct way with your product? I realize that Budweiser does not need such celebrity endorsement to sell their shitty beer as they've already cornered the beer market and continue to force small-time microbreweries to fight tooth and nail to serve to even a limited customer base.

THAT SAID, it seems like an incredible waste of money. It's not like there was anything Clooney-esque about the commercial that you could say he was voicing it for a sense of irony, and I don't think that many people will realize it's him speaking or register that that means a type of endorsement. And there must be hundreds of other decent voiceover actors they could hire instead-- guys who probably need the money more than Clooney.

Posted by: Lindsay at November 10, 2010 7:50 AM

The one that will soon own all these? RDJ doing the voice of Mr. Peanut in the Mr. Peanut commericals.

Posted by: Kara at November 10, 2010 8:52 AM

"Commercials". Somewhere, my advertising prof is feeling a stabbing pain.

Posted by: Kara at November 10, 2010 8:54 AM

And for the black people I would like to nominate Regina King for Always - Have a Happy Period!

Regina King does the Always commercials?! That is awesome.

Seriously, Dustin. What's with the sausage fest?

Posted by: Kim at November 11, 2010 10:34 AM

Funny, but whenever I used to see a Mastercard commercial, I would always think about leaving my gorgeous pregnant actress girlfriend for an overrated younger actress girlfriend.

Damn! That is a good ad campaign!

Posted by: Johnnyboy at November 11, 2010 10:32 PM

I am also surprised that Sam Elliott did not make the list..Coors and Dodge Ram? Arguably the most distinctive and prolific voice on the tube. What a voice!
