When we put the Pajiba 10 together each year, one of the relatively few complaints we get about the list is that the “overlords” are playing favorites, and that we’re moving up our own choices. In reality, all of the choices are made by the readers — we just count up the votes and add the images and descriptions. (The other complaint is that, after three years, it’s getting a little repetitive, so to rectify that, going forward anyone who is on the list two years in a row will be given a year-long sabbatical).

Not that there’s anything wrong with the Pajiba 10, but when you’re working with a large number of votes, a more safe and familiar list (by Pajiba standards, anyway) will emerge — the celebrities chosen, necessarily, must have a wider appeal among the cross-section of our readers. So, for shits and giggles, I asked the same people who wrote this year’s Pajiba 10 what single person they would put on the list, and came up with an alternative Pajiba 10 — Overlord Edition, which is to say: If we had our way, this is what the list would look like.

And, it’s a slow news day, so I’m going to add an element of competition to this list. The first person, in the comments, to correctly match the individual writer of the Pajiba 10 with the celebrity he or she chose below will win a free copy of Coraline, which comes out on DVD tomorrow.

Yeah, that's one explanation. The other one is the Pajiba, for all its strengths, is just as susceptible to outside influence as any other community. Just ask yourself how many times were the Pajiba 10 referenced in posts and comments over the last 6-12 months? And did you read the other comments/votes before you voted? The reason Budweiser advertises every week is so when you're at the 7-Eleven you think of their beer first. Same thing happened here. We're all sheep and not the killer-kind to which we aspire.

I can't be bothered since I don't need the dvd that badly, but one way is to look at the 5/10s etc going on at the end of the guesses and figure it out from there, which ones match up, which ones don't. I thought about doing it, but I don't have the patience or brain power. :)

This list gets points for the Lauren Graham and Patricia Clarkson pickups alone. Put me in a sandwich between those two spectacular women and I can die a happy man! The always terrific Clarkson was one of the few bright spots in the atrociously bad Phoebe in Wonderland" and Graham has made Lorelei Gilmore a household name ... she needn't do anything more, but I hope she does anyway!
