Pajiba's Sixth Anniversary Post

By Dustin Rowles | Posted Under Seriously Random Lists | Comments (99)

21_anchorman_lg.jpg

This week marks the sixth anniversary of the existence of Pajiba. That makes us practically ancient by Internet standards.

I think we tested our readers’ patience last year with a week’s worth of posts to celebrate our fifth anniversary, so I think well just mark this one with a look back out our 50 Most Popular posts during that time frame. It’s been a fantastic run, one that started slowly and has gradually picked up over the years. Here’s a look at our traffic since June 2004.

pajibastats.jpg

Fun Fact: See that huge one-day spike about four years ago? Strangely enough, that was unearned, and attributed almost completely to the fact that we were running an ad on another site that had the first nude photos of “American Idol’s” Antonella Barba. But look who’s laughing now? We outlasted Antonella Barba, bitches (in fact, I had to do some research to locate her name)!

A huge thanks to all the people who have contributed over the years, the Eloquents, the former Eloquents, the readers that have been here for years, and everybody that decides to spend a few minutes each day around here. Good goddamn people have made this site was it is. And as we grow, we’re trying — really trying (although, some of you may disagree) — not to be huge douches or sell-outs.

So, here’s to another six years of hopefully not becoming douches. And to thank you all for your continued patronage, I’ve removed the mouseover, in-text ads. No more Bing results!

Thanks everyone. Really and honestly, thanks.

Six years? That's 365 X 6 = 2190 faps ago.

(You math nerds think you have me on a technicality, but I always go fap-free on Feb. 29.)

Congratulations! And: More Antonella Barba's boobies!

It's as good a time as any to say thanks to you, Dustin, and the rest of the crew, both current and former, for keeping this place up, running and interesting for the last 6 years. You guys do good, quality work here.

It's a nice little corner of the internet and I enjoy it.

What happened during that massive plummet in hits around a few months ago?

Posted by: Mr. Tusks at June 23, 2010 2:08 PM

Good game. Since I can't actually slap any of you on the butt (like any good highschool (American) football play), I'll just slap my own butt in your honor.

PAJIBA!

Posted by: coryo at June 23, 2010 2:09 PM

In one year, Nathan Fillion went from 1st place to 6th place. Here's hoping he still makes the list this year.

And that episode of Futurama (Jurassic Bark) makes me cry if I am forced to watch it. BAH!

Posted by: Patty O'Green at June 23, 2010 2:10 PM

And to thank you all for your continued patronage, I’ve removed the mouseover, in-text ads.

Oooh. Is that a permanent change, or just temporary? 'Cause I'd be terribly happy if it was permanent...

And a boisterous Happy Anniversary! to Pajiba. Thanks for being here.

Six years is not nearly enough. I hope this site remains snarky and intelligent, because Goptopus knows it has to offset some of the sludge that passes as criticism online.

Posted by: Mrcreosote at June 23, 2010 2:14 PM

"We're trying - - not to be huge douches or sell-outs."

That's right, Dusty, just keep doing what you do & let us douches in the comments section do what we do; it's called a democracy.

Posted by: Bill (Formerly Bill) at June 23, 2010 2:16 PM

I love graphs. Thank you for the graph.

Also, thank you for six years of Pajiba. How will your children eat without the Bing ads? (And I don't mean that sarcastically.) If one is highly bothered by the Bings, one should get the Adblock.

Posted by: MM at June 23, 2010 2:17 PM

6 years?!? Wow I was living in Germany then. I have ONLY been reading for five, and commenting for about 2, but I thank you so much for this place. The articles are so great. And the community is amazing. And that is all I can muster. With a world cup win and and earthquake today, I am just exhausted. And it's only Wednesday.

Happy Birthday Pajiba!

So how much of the popularity of the Twilight review was us tearing it apart and how much was the tweens and the Twilight Moms issuing fatwas against us?

Also, AlabamaPink! Sob.

Bama pink.

Two questions:

1. What caused the step up from very low to medium low traffic?

2. What's that one gap way over to the right where there's nothing?

Congratulations!

Posted by: esme at June 23, 2010 2:31 PM

I have a question for you Mr. Rowles. Most Popular posts is measured by views and not by posts? Cause sometimes I leave a post on stuff like Pajiba Love just to show my support. But if you guys are going by views I don't have to do that.

Posted by: EricD at June 23, 2010 2:32 PM

Girls Gone Wild. Seriously, if you haven't read it, DO.

6 years. Mazel Tov. This site and the amazing people I have met here have changed my life forever, I can NEVER thank you enough, Dustin.

I've been a mostly silent reader for years and this is still my favorite everyday site! Thanks for all your hard work and brutal honesty! Also , I think one you missed was the "Brokeback Mountain " review. By far the best I've read!

Posted by: Amy McK at June 23, 2010 2:42 PM

Good on you folks. It's not often when something holds my attention for this long. Now, where are the complimentary reach arounds? I was told there would be reach arounds and boobie cake.

I was told there would be reach arounds and boobie cake.
Posted by: admin at June 23, 2010 2:48 PM

Is that the cake Dustin sent to the winner of his whatever post the other day? Cause that's just not fair. Plus, now they're just gonna have to send it back with six candles so they can wish Pajiba a happy birthday on the cheap.

Posted by: coryo at June 23, 2010 2:51 PM

Funny that the faux-Girls Gone Wild review, the Blacksnake Moan and Captivity reviews are the most viewed reviews. I would never have guessed those would be the 3, but then I remembered that we're all pervs.

Thanks for the good times, Pajiba.

Posted by: logar at June 23, 2010 2:53 PM

Posted by: BWeaves at June 23, 2010 3:01 PM

For some reason, I was thinking about Alabama Pink this morning as I was getting ready for work. Couldn't tell you why...just had her flit in my mind. Now I find out it's Pajib's 6th birthday. Coincidence? I THINK *NOT*!

A green beam blast of celebration to you, Pajiba. May I paraphrase from the demise of one of my favorite college bars and bequeath the following...

"When times were good,
When times were bad,
You were always Pajiba."

Thanks, 'Jiba. Here's to another six years of scathing and bitchy.

Aw man, congrats to all of us. I can't tell you how proud I am to be part of this mess, even if it's just the one thing I write every week. Keep posting funny shit, people, it makes the job fun.

And oooh! I remember that the very first post I read on here was the Worst Blockbusters one. And now I will never leave.

Congrats Cap'n Rowles - you've got one helluva site here.

Prior to Pajiba, I'd never:
01. Commented on the internet.
02. Made mention of my conjoined twin.
03. Made public my hatred of Condouche.
04. Been on that goddam timesuck Facebook.
05. Drawn a one-eyed blue octopus.
06. Typed the word "fuck" more than ten times in one day.
07. Snortlaughed partially chewed almonds into my sinus cavity.
08. Fully expressed my hate of Gummo.
09. Learned htmlabobs.
10. Had herpes.

So thanks. Thanks to you, the brilliant writers and contributors, and the fucking lunatics who make me feel okay about my own lunacy. You're a deranged, smarter-than-the-average-commenter group of unbefuckinanalievable* folks who I'd happily join in a knife fight. Or bank heist. Or Tyler Perry kidnapping.

[...yeah, I'm still trying to make "unbefuckinanalievable" happen. Suck it...]

Posted by: JenVegas at June 23, 2010 3:29 PM

I've been reading the site for a few years. I can still remember one of the first posts I read on this site was Dustin's real-time review of "Blonde Ambition". I was giggling uncontrollably while trying not to look like a madwoman in the university library. All of which is to say, congratulations and thanks for a truly fantastic site.

Posted by: Meghan at June 23, 2010 3:35 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot about the sexualization of the young-ish-er set of the readership (you know what I'm talking about D-Day (and 'Jibettes)). Never have I been so objectified (openly). And never have I used so many parentheses.

And contrary to the way my above parenthesis reads, I am not gay with D-Day.

Posted by: coryo at June 23, 2010 3:42 PM

You are not a douche. Trust me, I know.

Posted by: Pajiba Vagina at June 23, 2010 4:18 PM

Congratulations on six strong years, Pajiba! It seems only yesterday I was lured here by the Fug girls those many moons ago and I've happily been clicking on ever since.

Here's to many more reviews, scathing commentary, and huge hugs to the likes of Skitz, admin, Anna Von Beaverplatz (just to name a fun handful) and all those other great minds (My God, there are so many on this site) that make reading the comment section truly, truly joyous.

And prayers for Alabama Pink's family-she was a lovely soul, through and through.

Posted by: kootenay girl at June 23, 2010 4:20 PM

Yay! Even though I've only commented regularly for the last couple years, I'm proud to have been a reader since 2004 (on dial up no less). And as far as that GGW review is concerned, I've told Ted personally, but I'll reiterate: one of the finest pieces of journalism I've ever read. I've hooked dozens of people by linking them to that article.

Posted by: ChristianH at June 23, 2010 4:39 PM

Also, sad to see that the post that got me started on my Pajiba journey didn't make the top 50: The Generation's Best Books. Yes, like oh so many Twilight fans, I googled my way into the Pajiba gates. Unlike most of the Twilight fans, I stayed. Then I got started writing for the Music section, and I've been hooked into Pajiba's continued success ever since!

Now, with a site of my own, I can only hope to emulate the integrity (though maybe not the bitchiness) with which you've carried yourselves for six years now.

Congrats!

Posted by: ChristianH at June 23, 2010 4:44 PM

P.S. My first comment was bemoaning the lack of Harry Potter in the books post. So, yeah. Not the best introduction, lol. Second comment from the bottom!

Posted by: AmbroseKalifornia at June 23, 2010 5:01 PM

I read this as "I've been here as long as you were here" for some reason and thought 1) that it was weird that six year olds were on Pajiba and 2) that it was weird that Ambrose was six years old.

Posted by: coryo at June 23, 2010 5:18 PM

Aw, Ian, I'm genuinely touched! And not to be a shill, but if you haven't already, you should Fbook fan that shiz, I know the other writers would take it as a good sign. Every time we get a new fan, there's a spike in productivity!

Seriously though, thanks! It's nice to get good comments once in a while. Check out the comments on my Lil' Wayne review for the kind of shit I usually hear.

Posted by: ChristianH at June 23, 2010 5:19 PM

As a six year veteran of this site, Congrats to Pajiba! and all her writers.

Wait...she is a she, right? I mean, there's no way Pajiba's a guy. No guy could ever be this slick every day, do nothing but be a complete bitch, and not only get away with it, but have us all coming back for more...begging.

But, sadly, I need to make you aware Dustin, my contract is up at the end of next year. I'm not gonna mention names (rhymes with Scary Sholes) over at a certain other review website is already in my ear. My agent keeps telling him, "no, no, no...too early to think about striking camp and moving elsewhere" but I have heard rumblings that Scary Sholes would give me all of his leftover pie. You hear that Rowles?! All of it. And you and me both know that dude eats a TON of pie.

oh....and your site name sounds like girl junk. That's the whole reason I came here in the first place.

Posted by: PissBoy at June 23, 2010 5:23 PM

Bullshit Sofia! Why wait...we could do 1 of two things. Slick Pajiba!'s hair back so she looks like a 4 yr old boy...ORRRRRRR...

I'm all misty. I can't remember when I stumbled here, but it was definitely sometime in my freshman year of college. Y'all know how to hook 'em young, you sweet snarky crack dealers, you.

Anyway, group hugs!

Posted by: Kayanne at June 23, 2010 5:33 PM

You just have to bring up that damn Captivity review where I kept fanning the flames against horror fans. What an I say? The director sold me a damn good line at a convention and I believed him. I was wrong. I'm sorry.

Congrats on lasting this long. It's trying to run a blog about media and you've managed it without an "I'm going crazy so fuck off" extended break.

Posted by: Robert at June 23, 2010 5:41 PM

#12 led me here via a link on PopCandy, and I've never looked back! Seriously, I've stopped reading EW (online and in magazine form), I don't go to TWoP as much as I used to, and I have completely stopped reading PopCandy - because I get everything I need here! Especially from the Eloquents.

So congrats, Pajiba, and here's to another six and beyond!

Dear Rowles,

Thank you for allowing me to come back to your community, I really appreciated it. Before pajiba I didn’t have a place to express my views and thoughts, trusts me I’ve tried many places but I was met with overwhelming resistance. Like Hillary Clinton before Obama put his foot in her ass, you’ve helped me find my voice.

Posted by: Snuggiepants at June 23, 2010 8:37 PM

I've commented here maybe two or three times, ever...but I've been a reader since 2005 and so still feel very much part of the Pajiba community. This is one of my first stops when I boot up my computer in the morning, and I send reviews from here to friends all the time.

Thanks, Pajibans/ettes, for making the site what it is. Even those of us that rarely de-lurk still love this place to death.

I remember many of these posts. It seems as though I started visiiting the site in 2007. For a long time I was a diligent lurker who only read the movie reviews.

Ah, the good old days.

Posted by: superasente at June 23, 2010 10:23 PM

What accounts for the fact that the most-visited theatrical movie review on this here movie review website is Black Snake Moan? Porn Googling?

Posted by: sansho1 at June 23, 2010 10:33 PM

And to thank you all for your continued patronage, I’ve removed the mouseover, in-text ads.

I literally gasped out loud, causing my roommate to ask me, "What?? What?!" and then I had to dorkily explain to her why I had such a big reaction over something that seems not worthy of a big reaction.

But it is! Thanks Dustin!!

I LOVE PAJIBA!!

Happy Birthday!

I remember being generally newbie when the Sister Act sham was posted...I recall trying super hard to nod a bit, with my wrinkled forehead...worrying that there was a crack in my new crystal egg once I'd really gotten my hands on it for a closer look. I have never been so delighted to be fooled in my life. Then, the commenters were fully awesome (after a nice burn or two and much lurking) and then you posted my WBNS. Made my decade. No joke.

Pajiba gave me art back after I thought i didn't have it in me anymore, so I like you. I like you a LOT.

And thank YOU Dustin. In 2004, after I graduated high school, I moved permanently to Poland. That's when I started reading Pajiba, one of the only things that have been keeping me sane since then. I've been a huge fan since the beginning - keep up the good work, guys!

Another mainly-lurker here. I've been reading this site almost since its inception, and in my mind at least it has had some of the best writing that I've found on the internet. I've shared reviews with my friends and plan on continuing to do so. Thanks for all of it.

Uhm... I don't really know what to think... but I have a question I'd like to ask you in private, ideally by email. How can I reach you?

I enjoy you because of all your valuable efforts on this web site. My daughter enjoys carrying out internet research and it's really obvious why. Many of us learn all about the compelling tactic you give vital tactics by means of this blog and even welcome response from the others on that content plus our child is without a doubt learning a lot of things. Take advantage of the remaining portion of the year. You're the one carrying out a great job.
