First Peek at "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.": Five Things You May Not Have Heard About This Week
Happy Mother's Day! Here's your Important Stuff.
5. We Were Reminded of Charles Dance's Pre-Tywin Lannister Days.
Portraying the ultimate "Game of Thrones'" patriarch requires gravitas and solemnity, and Dance does it brilliantly. But we mustn't forget, he's got another side, and it is fiiiiiine. Shake it Tywin!
4. A Fancy New Man of Steel Poster Hit Twitter, a UK Teaser Showed New Footage, and Calendar Images Were Revealed.
There are some films that, the more footage you see, the more unsure or concerned you feel over how the full version is going to turn out (I'm talking to you, Star Trek Into Darkness), but Man of Steel is not one of them. The more we see, the better it looks. Bring on the SuperCavill.
3. A New Star Trek Into Darkness Featurette and Clip Confirmed Nothing Interesting Happens without the Cumberbatch.
This is what I'm talking about, people...the scenes we've so far been privy to have featured Benedict Cumberbatch's "mystery" villain menacing Kirk and Co. amid ominous music and explosions. And while that may be enough to assure blockbuster ticket sales, I already have the feeling Star Trek Into Darkness is going to be a dud. These clips do nothing to assuage my apprehension.
2. The Powerful Fruitvale Station Trailer Debuted.
On the other hand, Ryan Coogler's debut feature--which won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at Sundance--can't get to my local theater fast enough. Based on the true story of Oscar Grant, Fruitvale Station stars Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Durand and Chad Michael Murray, and (after heading to Cannes) opens July 16th.
1. Seven Seconds of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Footage Was Released (Leaked?), Then Quickly Yanked. (But I found It...shhhh.)
(Clark Gregg) "Agent Phil Coulson is the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, the "everyman" in a universe full of superheroes. Every day he's somewhere doing something for S.H.I.E.L.D. He knows how to stand his ground but doesn't take life too seriously."
(Elizabeth Henstridge) "Agent Jemma Simmons deals with biology and chemistry, she's a bit of a nerd and spends most of her time with Leo Fitz (who she trained with)."
(Ming-Na Wen) "Melinda May is a pilot, weapons expert and soldier who is "Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences." and is known for going beyond the call of duty. Also known as "The Calvary," this hard-core soldier, she has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot but her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged. (Character previously known as Althea Rice)"
(Iain De Caestecker) "Agent Leo Fitz is skilled in the technical side of weaponry. He's a nerd and has a sibling like relationship with Jemma Simmons."
(Brett Dalton) "Agent Grant Ward is a highly skilled "rising star" known for being deadly, precise and cool under fire but apparently not so good when it comes to dealing with people with a tendency to botch interpersonal relations. He's a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he's the kind of guy that grows on you."
(Chloe Bennet) "Skye is fun, smart, caring and confident with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm. She is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exists within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature."
The guerilla footage is from a group called the "Rising Tide" (see last photo under badges); the domain was registered by Disney. Not much information as yet, but a first look at "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will air during (possibly right before) tonight's season finale of "Once Upon a Time."
*Updated: Here's the promo that aired during "OuaT":
