Chris Brown Was Arrested for Felony Assault, and Rose McGowan Thinks the 'Charmed' Reboot is Lame

All the Important Stuff you need.

*Late addition: Legendary Rocker Lou Reed Has died at 71 (cause unknown). RIP on the wild side, man.

6. Chris Brown Was Arrested for Felony Assault.

Police arrested Brown early this morning after he punched a man nearby the DC W Hotel; another man was also charged. A third man was injured (broken nose) and transported to the hospital. According to TMZ, a couple of female fans were having a photo taken with Brown when the victim and another man “photo bombed” them—according to the victim, Brown “went nuts,” hurled a gay slur and punched the victim. Still on probation for beating Rihanna, Brown could be in a world of trouble.

5. CBS Announced a Charmed Reboot; Milano and McGowan Tweeted.

Aaaand, witches are hot again. We’ve got American Horror Story: Coven and The Witches of East End; now CBS aims to cash in on the trend with a Charmed do-over. The pilot is being scripted by Chris Keyser and Sydney Sidner (Party of Five)—neither seems to have done much since. Not for nothing, but McGowan captured my sentiment.

4. Snowpiercer Got a New Poster…and a Bumped Release Date.

Dammit, Weinstein! Apparently it’s not enough to cut the American version of Joon-ho Bong’s dystopian thriller—which by the by, is doing quite well in Korea—now the release date has been bumped (a second time) to…who knows when? That’s right, we have no new date. So um, enjoy staring at the poster? Snowpiercer stars Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer and Kang-ho Song.

3. The Immigrant Trailer Hit Town.

James Gray’s (We Own the Night, Two Lovers, Little Odessa) next outing boasts a potentially interesting tale and a great cast (Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner; the trailer is gorgeous…I just hope things get a little more interesting than they appear here. Cotillard plays Ewa, a woman who comes through Ellis Island with her sick sister—who is immediately quarantined. Broke and vulnerable, Ewa is easy prey for Bruno (Phoenix), a shady dude who coerces Ewa into prostitution. Renner plays Bruno’s cousin, who falls for Ewa and may be able to help her escape Bruno’s clutches. The Immigrant has been on the festival circuit and should hit theaters by year end.

2. Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let the Right One In) Chose His Next Project.

The Swedish director will helm an adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s beloved classic, The Brothers Lionheart, a tale of two brothers who meet in the afterlife and have great adventures together. Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and John Ajvide Lindqvist (Let the Right One In) have co-written the script; Alfredson will also reunite with cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema (Let the Right One In, The Fighter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

1. Just in Time for All Hallows’ Eve, This NSFW Here Comes the Devil Red Band Trailer Made Its Presence Known.

A family day trip to Tijuana caves goes downhill fast after the kids disappear without a trace. But wait, don’t despair—they come back! Only something’s just a leetle different, and it probably has something to do with that pesky titular Devil. Adrián García Bogliano’s (The ABCs of Death) latest earned rave reviews at the Toronto and Fantastic Film Festivals; it’ll hit U.S. theaters December 13th. Starring Francisco Barreiro, Laura Caro, Michele Garcia and Alan Martinez.

Cindy Davis’ (Twitter) spelunking trip may be indefinitely deterred.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Haystacks

I will only accept a Charmed reboot if they include that glorious 90s fashion.

  • "Aaaand, witches are hot again."

I heard that coming out of Stereotypical Development Guy's mouth, and suddenly had a flash that knocked me to my knees and flushed dinner back up to larynx level: "Here Comes Honey Voodoo"

  • Uriah_Creep

TLC would like to speak to you about your idea.

  • (yelps, hides behind the couch and peeks through the far end of the blinds until demons leave)

  • Jim

(puts on Stevie Nicks' Rhiannon; slips on shawl, twirls about spraying a salt circle around the room) OK, you're good. You're welcome.

  • You, sir, are like a cat in the dark. And then you are the darkness. I feel safer already.

  • e jerry powell

You got Fran-Ken-doll hidden in the corner over there?

  • Uriah_Creep

Don't worry, the bad demons from TLC won't harm you unless you insist that the Honey Voodoo idea was yours.

  • emmalita

You have a sick mind. I like it. Beauty pageant veteran, redneck fashionista, witch.

  • THEME SONG (stolen with abject apologies from Salt N Pepa):

Here I go, here I go, here I go again
    Kids, what's my weakness?
Ok then, chillin', illin', pickin' a blister,
Tossed a Zima to the baby but I'm high so I missed 'er,
She bawled, I called, my niece/half-sister,
The girl she got it goin' on with somethin kinda
Wicked, wicked, love to lick it
She don't mind if you ask for a sip-sip,
A toad, no it won't make ya,
See what I want is a lotta money quick-quick,
Put her on my hip and I dipped back in my bag o' tricks,
Made some calls now we're OOOOHHH on the TLC tit,
Flick it, like a good remote should be flicked,
Almost outta Zima so I chilled for a bit,
Don't know how we do the voodoo that she brew,
So well it's a spell, hell, makes me wanna shoot shoot METH

  • emmalita

You done it now. TLC will never leave you alone and ain't no where you can hide from them.

  • Ben

Ok that Logo for "Here comes the Devil" Is awful. It reads to me as "Here Comes Devil The"

  • e jerry powell

There goes CBS, trying to skew younger again. You'd think they'd have figured out by now that it's never gonna happen.

Wasn't "Charmed" a WB property originally? Between the CW and CBS, it's like Aaron Spelling's corpse is being picked over. Again. The "Melrose Place" reboot failed miserably, "90210" eked out five years by some mysterious means...

I'd say Models, Inc. 2.0 is next, but Darren Star didn't have anything to do with that one, and Linda Gray is already otherwise occupied.

  • John W

Looks like they're rebooting the Stepford wives.

  • Malin

The Brothers Lionheart was one of my all time favourite books growing up, even though it's deeply sad and always had me sobbing. There was a Swedish TV-series too, which I haven't seen since I was a child. I wonder if it still stands up?

  • Fabius_Maximus

I imagine it does. Although my memories are a bit hazy. It's been a while.

  • Pretty Hate Machine

I'll happily pass on #s 1& 2 due to the dead and/or possessed children theme. I can handle many things, just not that. Even though I was fond of Let the Right One In and that illustration for The Brothers Lionheart is beautiful, I just can't with two little Hate Machines of my own. I know I'd spend the whole time sobbing, thinking about my darlings.

  • Jim

Bye Lou - way back in '72 "Walk on the Wild Side" told 13yr old gay me the lesson that straight/gay/trans/whatever didn't matter because life was gonna happen with or without you so you might as well join in. Peace and thanks, man. I'll look for a cluster of stars tonight blinking out "Doo do doo do doo do do doo ..."

  • pfeiffer87

Hate being that person but.... At this point it's still alleged assault though right?

  • Sara_Tonin00

perhaps the piece should read "he allegedly punched a man" but no, he's arrested for felony assault. One is arrested for a crime one allegedly did, not an alleged crime, if the semantic difference makes sense.

  • pfeiffer87

    ok thanks!

  • emmalita

I've never heard of The Brothers Lionheart. /adds to list of books to read.

When I heard about Lou Reed dying, I put on "Perfect Day." It's been such a perfect day, I'm glad I spent it with you.

  • bonnie

Chris Brown was arrested for assault? OMG NO WAY I AM SOOOO SURPRISED. False. I am only surprised it's taken him this long to completely snap. I cannot wait to read Courtney's response to his inevitable self-pity party.

  • Paddington

I liked Charmed. Don't have strong opinions on a reboot but I probably wouldn't watch it. The original airs every weekday in syndication and I'm not sure if I can watch Piper lose Prue again. It just hurt too much!

  • Jezzer

A reboot would have to go pretty far out of its way to be any lamer than the original Charmed. It was initially a passable timewaster to get you through the week until Buffy came back on, but it went from supernatural drama to "Sex and the City with Demons" pretty quickly, and became unwatchable. And limped on for like 8 or 9 seasons.

  • Dominic

I will admit that it is much better to watch the repeats in the early AM : I never watched it in prime time . Would take issue with "went from supernatural drama " as it seemed from episode ONE to be "SATC with demons" Whatshername as Piper was overshadowed for a few seasons tho . It always was cutesy ; many shows have better "supernatural" characters/storylines . And yes we watch(ed) to look at Milano and Doherty . and I'm a big Finola Hughes fan so I liked her as "Mom "

I hate Reboots ,usually . I blame the younger generation , for not boycotting enough of these things to make Hollywood rethink their plans ...

  • zeke_the_pig

    Fuck. Fucking fuck.
RIP Lou, you intransigent, brilliant fucker.
Music would be a poorer place if it wasn't for you.

  • stella

But I want to see Snowpiercer now.*stomps foot*

  • cgthegeek

I'm guessing they will release it around Cap2, hoping to capitalize on the Chris Evans love. Because that's so Harvey.

  • Fabius_Maximus

More importantly, I want to see the original version.

  • Ryan Ambrose

Or whatever version in which Song Kang-ho shares the most screen time.

The man was amazing in "Memories of a Murder" and "The Host", one the best monster films I have ever seen.

  • So true. "The Host" especially is a great genre-bending film. I've tried to describe it as "a horror movie take on Little Miss Sunshine."
